Well, this thread did it. It only only got me to stop lurking after 1.5 years and finally create an account, but also made me take the plunge and finally purchase a MBP this evening. I am using a nearly 6 year old Dell Inspiron 8200 (which was top of the line 6 years ago, but now... well.. I'm holding the screen up with clothespins, holding the AC adapter together with electrical tape, and not enjoying 256 MB of RAM anymore). Amazingly, it HAS been a durable computer in that it has been to 5 continents, been tossed around, shoved around, and moved around from state to state since early 2002 and I can still use iTunes, get on the internet, type up term papers, and play a mean game of Luxor... or Maple Story.

So going with the argument that if you need a new computer, get it now, I have decided to get it now. I figure with Leopard being released, orders will increase, and shipping times will lengthen. So I'll just get the new MBP now and pay the $10 later to have Leopard.

In any case, it'll be nice to not have to make sure everything on my computer is securely attached with tape or clothespins before picking it up and taking it to the sofa.

I have been waiting for over a year to make the switch to a MacBook. All of the agonizing waiting for updates, and trying to decide whether or not to get a MB or MBP (all about that dedicated video card), and whether or not the MB would ever get a dedicated video card has led to me finally snapping and just purchasing one and getting it overwith.

Now, I'm hoping my sanity will be somewhat restored.

Oh, and hello btw.

Due to the fact that it is my current machine on loan from the studio I work at (been using it around 3 weeks but has to go back at the end of next week). This is what convinced me that the machine is exactly what I need to do all of the work that I will ever need to get done on a portable basis. Just waiting for the SR and GPU update, so as to not have that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that I should've waited just two more weeks. I'm getting more and more convinced that the update is extremely close due to all of the well-known British retail outlets knocking the price down by at least 10% on their entire line-up of MacBooks. :)

Ah. :)

By the time the new MacBooks are released, I will have had mine for just over two and a half months. I'll be saddened, but not much; I really haven't pushed this machine to its limits, nor would I like to imagine what the past while would have been like without it (up until this, I hadn't owned a computer in over two years!).

That won't stop me from complaining, though.

I'll have had my MacBook for 6 months if they're updated in November (I ordered it the day Apple rolled out the slight upgrade back in May). So no gripes here. I wouldn't have been able to have waited until November to get a computer, either. >.<

We were expecting Santa Rosa that day.

We got lets keep gouging users on Napa.

I remember my posts when I had my iMac G5 that I'd hold out for a Santa Rosa MacBook.

I'm still waiting Apple.

I am holding out for a truly upgraded MacBook Pro. The current SR model wasn't much for me. And I am still waiting for a much more powerful Mac Pro like the countless thousands... my Dual 2GHz G5 is showing it's age, but I can stretch it's life out for another year at the most.

I was considering a MacBook Pro back in May as well.

I wasn't that impressed back then either.

Oh, and hello btw.

Congrats! :apple:

Considering that the X3500 is part of G35 (Bearlake), a desktop chipset, I call fake.

^^ Agreed. No way apple is going to be THAT innovative :p ^^ And I believe at one point, Jobs (or apple) was quoted to saying that such biometric features were lacking in application (not much use for them). I could [and probably am] wrong however.

Well the G4 iBook never was a CD or C2D MacBook was it?

That's the point of my "never had, never will" comment. MacBooks are based on Integrated Graphics while iBooks never were.

BTW the Intel X3100 IG will kick ass for it's class!

What do you think the performance gains will look like?

I don't. I'm making an educated guess based on historical evidence, end of the MacBook+FREE iPod offer October 30 and Intel's roadmap. I'll be surprised if it isn't. MacBook is the last Mobile Mac left without Santa Rosa. Is there some evidence that makes you think it won't?

What is the free ipod offer exactly?

Nope, not got a MacBook yet. Was waiting for Leopard, now waiting for the update. I know that the current model would suit my needs, but hey what's the harm in being greedy?
;)

Haha it seems like there are a whole bunch of others in the same boat as I. I decided a week ago to buy a macbook to go with my 6-week old 24" iMac. Now the wait is killing me! It's not so much the not having it, but the suspense of what they're going to annonce and when they're going to announce it! Oh I hope it's Friday lol :apple:

It's true that the Intel GMA X3100 is a proper videochip but consumers want to play games also. Especially the student bunch who are into Second Life stuff and World of Warcraft

Unfortunately Second Life does NOT work with the Intel X3100 as of October 22nd, 2007 :-(

What is the free ipod offer exactly?
Students who bought a qualifying Mac PC (anything except mac mini I believe) got a rebate for 149 with purchase of an iPod nano. So you either got the smaller version for free, or you paid 50 and got the more expensive version.

That's what I thought... that promotion ended Sept 16th though, not Oct 30th. I actually participated in that promotion. 30GB 5G video = $80 BDay present for my sister lol.

He's probably from Europe...I know for a fact that in Spain and the United Kingdom the offer is still going on.

REMEMBER: not everyone that speaks English or participates in this forum is from the US. If you're going to show your ignorance of the outside world, at least try and make it a bit more discrete.

Thanks,
Alex

That looks too good to be true. Would be nice, and everything I want in the next update.

Wow, what a dick comment. Yeah, you know I really should keep up on all the Apple promotions outside of my country, that's the intelligent thing to do. That way I could fly to the UK and pick up a free iPod with my new macbook! I really can't believe you would make such a condescending comment over something so small. Riddle me this: Why would an Apple promotion in Spain and the UK affect a product launch in the US?

Because products launch world wide simultaneously and they are unlikely to want to reduce profits by handing out free iPods in markets like the UK and spain which unlike the US have a strong currency.

I understand they are worldwide launches (except iPhone), but I find it hard to believe that they would delay a product launch. I can understand though the way they'd want to time it.

Nevertheless, I don't want to get into an argument. I'm not a business major so I really don't know what I'm talking about here. I just thought the demeanor of that individual's comment was uncalled for. So lets just drop it, get back on topic, and keep the dickish comments to a minimum.

I was close to buying a MB a couple of months back as well, but I'm just extremely fortunate to have been loaned this current model. It's definitely made this wait slightly more tolerable. I just want to know when to spend my money though. Every week I'm seeing something new to buy, and I just keep telling myself "hold on for that new MacBook, it'll be worth it!". Here's hoping. :D

I'm waiting too, but unfortunately I won't be able to buy the new MacBook Pro whenever it comes out. Once it's released, I'm hoping that I'll be able to buy a used model from someone on MacRumors who has bought the new one. It would be an amazing upgrade from this expensive Acer paperweight! It's all relative, says the almost broke college student.
