I reset my phone settings twice in a row because faceID/passcode and wallpapers weren’t reset.

Then I noticed that deep fusion worked differently and now my new photos look amazing! I think it’s easy for iPhones to adopt bad settings and not function correctly. Also, ProMotion is not stuttering anymore. Just give two back-to-back resets a try.

I think that the isp wasn’t reset to use properly use the iPhone 13 Max profile after it came off of the GM. It’s very strange how different the finer details are where photos now look better than my iPhone X and 11 Pro.
Got example photos? Before and after?

I find that 'Night Mode' activates immediately if the scene is dark enough. You can also override it and activate the On/Off/Auto option that appears in 'Settings'.

iPhone User Guide (Night Mode)

I have not yet experimented with Night Mode other than automatically triggering the setting when shooting in lowlight environments such as my home office etc. If the room is dark enough, Night Mode will activate automatically and will range from 1 second to around 30 seconds if the scene is virtually night time.

HALIDE
To those recommending 'Halide', is it worth the purchase price? The Halide Pro II App asks for a financial commitment before allowing for a 7-Day free trial of the app. Price to buy the App outright is AUD $79 (which seems a little steep) or $17.99 per year. I already have ProCam on my iPhone.

I came from the original Halide however I do find it helpful. I also have ProCam but have since pretty much shelved it.
I would recommend trying it and canceling the subscription If you don’t think it is worth the price.

Anyone who was having issues with the camera tried this?

Would that work on a brand new iPhone? I am getting mine tomorrow. Do you need to be connected to Internet for this to work?

What is actually getting reset when doing this?
Maybe there are settings that gets transferred from the older device that causes some of the issues, and this could help.

No idea, I don’t seem to be able to recreate the water colour/painting photos that people are experiencing.
As such I am unable to test, if the reset works.

I am assuming, what you are assuming, is right.

Hopefully this works for people that are indeed having problems with their camera.

Although I prefer the Pixel 6 Pro’s camera I’m going to return it. Just too integrated into iOS and my entire family has iOS so it makes it extremely difficult to break off. FaceTime and iMessage is king lol

Here are some quick photos I snapped this morning with my 13 Pro. I find myself confused because there are times where the 13 Pro nails a scene and other times it just over exposes and crushes shadows. No idea why YouTube reviewers are saying the 13 Pro’s are the most consistent cameras out there, that belongs to the Pixel 6 Pro.
iPhone 13 pro does struggle with blacks and shadows. Pixel 6 pro is a great camera but i actually think it lacks consistency with overall stills. For portraits it’s generally great but i do get these random wtf moments. So i can see why people say the iphone is more consistent.

where iphone does struggle is HDR and darker situations where it completes makes dark areas just pitch black where pixel and s21 ultra doesn’t.

I actually think the 13 pro portraits are really great. Much improved from last year.

So I've been doing some experimenting and I've noticed something interesting.

I've noticed that the highlights are way brighter on the 13 Pro's display compared to viewing the same exact photo on the Pixel 6 Pro's display. The photos I'm referring to are ones shot directly from my 13 Pro. This most likely explains why photos on my 13 Pro look as though the highlights are totally blown out but look a tad better when viewing them on my Pixel 6 Pro. I also get that the 13 Pro's display have a higher peak brightness but this shouldn't cause highlights to be so blown out.

I'd recommend that you guys do the same if you have another smartphone you can use to view the same photos you've taken with your 13 Pro.
I’ve noticed this as well. I was comparing pics taken with the 11 to the 13 Pro and found the best way for me to truly tell the different was to view both on the same screen of either of the phones. I understand that there’s going to be inherent differences just from LCD vs OLED. But pics that had highlights blown out on the 13P were much more subtle when viewed on the 11. Assuming it’s from the brightness level of the 13P screen? Yet, it wasn’t a uniform blow out. It’s hard to explain.

Yes, and it didn’t work, actually resetted 5 times.
I started using this Pro Max without backup from my older X, but I tried anyway, even restored with 15.1 ipsw.
Smart HDR pipeline is doing this weird sharpening over a blurry image.

Thanks for trying it out. Sorry it was not able to fix your issue.

Yeah it’s hard to explain, I honestly think it’s the 13 Pro’s screen that makes our photos look bad at times. It’s like it’s been calibrated to blow out highlights. It’s just like when you calibrate an OLED TV and set your preferred black level and peak brightness level for HDR contents.

No problem, I guess when Apple will disable (Or give us option to disable Smart HDR) over sharpening and accept a little more natural grain to iPhone photos this thread will be closed.

That’ll never happen, as much as I love Apple products they never ever will budge unless the major YouTubers actually shed some light on this topic.

They did with iPhone XS, this can’t be the normal way a flagship 1500€ iPhone 13 Pro handle a simple picture, even a normal person can notice it.
IMO iOS is not able yet to adjust f/1.5. YouTubers or big blogs won’t say anything bad about because next year they won’t receive free iPhone samples for reviews.

Not a case, couldn’t find one at all. It’s OhSnap, it’s like a

Because we shouldn't have to use a 3rd party app to get the best photos out of our $1k+ phones.

Apple needs to get their **** together, nobody wants an oily painting as a photo.
Third party apps I have tried are either too complex or too slow. I was trying to use a raw camera app the other day and taking photos was a nightmare as the phone slowed down so much it was hard to figure out when the shot was taken.. and had difficulty focusing. Ditto with Focus app.
With the money one pays for the iPhone the camera should work. Currently it is pretty much unusable unless you are in the most ideal conditions. And I have no idea why include the wide lens when the results are so bad and blocky you can never use the photos anywhere.
I waited so much for this phone and it has been a huge disappointment. My old X s max seems to take better photos and does not over process them.
