I think I’m getting great results from both of my iPhone 13 pro max phones: it’s amazing what you can get from the iPhone 13 pro / Max when you put forth extra effort to get a great shot.

Agreed, but that was true for previous models. 13pm is unstable and unpredictable for me.
Yesterday it provides me with “beautiful” plastic looking photos from the mall…(

I have both iphone 11 and 13 pro at home. Yeah 13 always tries to sharpen the photos a lot and people may not like it. 13 pro photos look more colorful and live than 11 most of the cases.

For me colors are not the main problem. Along with the too dark shadows it may easily be fixed by editing.
What is bad - apart from the sharpening it is often too much noise removal processing, leads to loosing hairs and fabric texture, and plastic effects

That is what Apple wants to do, most people would not zoom in to see details, they want unreal blue sky, everything look shiny, happy mood.

But on 58”TV such processing looks awful.
Some photos are beautiful, some are bad. Lottery with AI.
But, for sure, low lights photos with high probability will be ruined with processing.
Sometimes it happens in a bright light also.
For now some workaround is to use portrait mode. It bakes in less aggressive processing.
And, of course, not to use ultra wide and tele lenses, which are cheap and my old 6plus has better sensor.

Since I’ve paid almost two grands for this 512gb “pro”, such a shame. No controls, no stability in the results.

ISO & shutter speed of the phots? Are you zooming in on the photo past 100% to look for flaws?

AI photos cannot keep the original details, and that is not a bug, Apple does that to make most of the customers happy to boost sales number.

What baffles me is that they can PUT BACK the option that was present on the 12 pros to turn HDR off. That way the social media divas AND the camera nerds are happy.

Exactly. That was my point since I’ve discovered this surprise.
Could not imagine this toggle will disappear on the new phone. It was always Off on my old phones.
Of course I’m unhappy with the “new level” of quality

I think they took the HDR off option because the new cameras are really bad without the AI. What other explanation could they have?

That logic does not follow if you look at some of the pics people have posted in this very thread using 3rd party camera apps that do not use the AI. The camera itself has produced some great looking shots without the AI. Look at some of the images @ToddH has posted using Halide, Moment, Beastcam, etc. The raw hardware is quite capable.

I really hope that this is true and Apple will issue a software update to improve photography .
Agreed. The stock camera app is really pretty lacking. They call it a pro but only offer point-and-shoot capabilities for the camera. I'll probably just go with Halide or some other 3rd party app and proRaw. Gonna have to plunk down more cash for more memory in that case. sigh...

S22 Ultra has no camera hardware upgrade at all, same as A21 Ultra. iPhone 14 should be the same, so even Apple has any camera software fix, upgrade or whatever they would save it for iPhone 14,15,16...

I have the iphone 13 pro max and also seeing the photo issue - first it's blurry then it takes about a second for the photo to become clear. I called Apple support, the rep reached out to their technician at the image or photo team for advise. First they said it was caused by my wifi speed and that the photo was taking time to upload to my icloud. I argued with apple support that it wasn't my wifi speed and they put me on with the senior technician who earlier suggested it was wifi speed issue. The technician ran some hardware test on my iphone and said everything (LiDAR, and other camera components) are working fine. I was asked to take the phone to a Apple Genius so they can "hold the phone and see the problem". I have appointment on Thursday so let's see what they say.

Apple already has good support, if you ask the same question for Samsung, they will just reset your phone lol

Apple has been using a 12MP camera for 6 years straight. Apple will probably upgrade the camera hardware in the iPhone 14. Will Apple only upgrade the cameras in the 14 Pro/Pro Max only and leave the 14/Max using iPhone 13 Pro cameras?

iPhone 13 and pro camera sensors had big upgraded already, check the specs, it is much bigger than older iPhones

That’s the deep fusion applying all 9 photos as one. The ProRAW format takes twice as long. It’s not a flaw, it’s deep fusion being applied.
