The camera apps own RAW is applying some processing, but i think that is after taking a photo, and viewing the picture in Apple Photos. If you edit the photo, or open it in Lightroom for example, the photo gets "cleared" from Apples processing.
Regarding camera apps with more control and less processing, there are many alternatives; Halide, Moment, Proshot, Reeflex, Lightroom among others.
One good news at least … when I get home I’ll check out the pictures in Lightroom on the PC.

Well that’s the one thing I don’t like about iPhones: The chains from Apple, Apple says you cannot dismiss the lock screen by just using Face ID, then you have to swipe up! Millions of customers complain about it? F*ck them.

You can only download Apps from the AppStore.

No, if we want your photos to be processed then they get processed, nothing you little worm can do about it. lol
Etc ..

About these things I’m jealous for Android users.

On the other hand there are many things that are better on iPhone / iOS…

Without reading 52 pages now, I’ve got the iPhone 13 Pro Max just before my vacation to Barcelona.

Thought I could take some great pictures but Apple had some surprise ready for me.
Not to mention, that the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 512GB of storage cost almost $2,000 in Europe ;)

Come on! That you can’t turn off this post processing is a joke and they call it a “Pro” device.
When I noticed it, I tried to play around with the settings but there is no option to turn it off…
Yesterday I’ve turned on ProRAW yes, it improves the quality but EVEN when using so called RAW the picture is being processed!!!! A few seconds after you took the photo you can see, it’s applied to the photo.
There is no way to get out the actual picture recorded by the sensor.

I’m totally disappointed! ?
As there is no fix apparently and Apple isn’t doing anything about it with updates, is there an alternative camera app that gives me pure RAW pictures on my “Pro” iPhone. ;)

I really wonder how this phone could be ranked so high by the press in terms of image quality. I mean the phone might take nice ones but I’m not able to get them out…
What I’m getting are over sharpened, too bright and blurry pictures! ?

This is why many of us use a separate app like Halide instead of the stock camera.
The stock is great for video. For photos, not so much.

Are use Lightroom exclusively for my ProRAW or third-party app raw photos and I always have very good results with no over processing effects because I control how I want my photo to look using Lightroom. I understand that there’s a lot of people out there that don’t use Lightroom or don’t know how to use it or maybe uncomfortable using a Raw file, so far what I have learned is the third party apps that use raw or Proraw don’t have that oversaturated look and the images come away very clean. Especially after loading the raw file onto my desktop and editing it in Lightroom there and then copying Will settings to my mobile device to apply to the raw files that I take by using a preset that I created. I’m not sure how far you guys are zooming into your photo that you are examining to check for clarity and other flaws, But a double tap on the screen equals a 100% view of the image. If you zoom in further than that then you’re definitely going to see other artifacts and issues because you’re beyond 100%.

This means there is a hardware issue. I can’t belive they did not improve this mess at least in the last 6 months.
I think Apple just thinks for the majority of people this is just fine. :)

Think of swipe to dismiss lock screen after Face ID has recognized you.

We have Face ID now since 5 years and the option to just get into the phone without swiping is still not there !!!

Errr. Not sure about that reasoning... Other 3rd-party developers have made the camera produce really good images. Look back through this thread. Several have been posted. If the crappy images that the stock camera app generates were due to a hardware fault, it would be highly unlikely that software could fix it. It also implies that 3rd party developers found a way to work around a hardware problem that Apple could not and that I don't buy.

I think it's more like Apple says this is how it is PERIOD. It means extra money in the pockets of developers like Halide and Moment because Apple won't allow users just to disable their crappy, ill-thought-out postprocessing. The option was present on the iPhone 12 pro and the idiots removed it.

I just updated and I think I see some improvements. I definitely see the improvements with the wide angle macro as I am able to get much closer than I previously could. Posting photos here does not represent the actual photo very well because it reduces its quality and size. But here is a unedited photo

On Amazon. I bought 6 of them as extras. Excessive I’m sure, but I have two 13 pro max iPhones. But I want to have reserves. Here is the link. I have used anti-glare before but it was always plastic, this is frosted glass!!

Thanks for sharing. Any significant loss of clarity or brightness?

So far, no. I’m a pixel peeper when looking at photos, so I don’t see any loss of quality. It is a soft look, but the photos still are very sharp. No graininess from the glass. If there is, you really have to look for it. It feels great to the touch. No finger prints either. The screen just looks very rich and crisp especially with text or the web, etc.. I am very pleased with it. The screen is so easy to see when outside. I just love looking at it!! I’ve been looking for these matte screen protectors made of glass for a while… I’m glad I found one!

I'll have to try that one. I bought a couple different ones a bit back but they were more of the privacy type.
Thx!

Jpeg . No edit. I don’t see anything bad here.

The screenshot is a 600+% zoom, as far as I can go on my iPhone. No watercolor or mush. The 12mp sensor and 26mm optics can only resolve so much… large pixels are great for low light, not as good with small details of far off objects

Man… I feel that the camera quality really took a dump this evening. It seemed ok earlier, then all of a sudden, crappy! The 3x camera indoors with the default camera and with my other third party apps just looks blotchy. Way worse than what I’ve seen lately. Anyone else? Not sure why the quality just switched off like that. Weird.

The quality is the same on both of my iPhone 13 pro max devices. So it’s software. Maybe the quality will improve by tomorrow.

This is bad!! 3x camera ISO 1000

In my opinion ios 15.4 better then previous version 15 it’s fact and totally recommended for update.
But they're still not good enough? Lightroom shots more natural in low light like after sunset to night.
As before, the most question is about excessive contour sharpness.

For normal light condition shots imho perfect ?? (without any joking)

Upd. Topic can be renamed from
“Really bad photos with iPhone 13” to
“Why ai cameras 13 turns normal lowlight photos into?” ?

Still running into times when it cannot decide what lens to use when you select 3x.

Currently the Moment app has the best photo quality on 15.4. I don’t see the mushiness using that vs the default camera after updating. So, I’ll be using the Moment app until further notice…
