Just point and shoot, stock camera app and no editing.

Man… I feel that the camera quality really took a dump this evening. It seemed ok earlier, then all of a sudden, crappy! The 3x camera indoors with the default camera and with my other third party apps just looks blotchy. Way worse than what I’ve seen lately. Anyone else? Not sure why the quality just switched off like that. Weird.

The quality is the same on both of my iPhone 13 pro max devices. So it’s software. Maybe the quality will improve by tomorrow.

This is bad!! 3x camera ISO 1000

I just don't get it. Here is 3x iso 2500 on my 13PM. Are you sure the phone is not taking it with the wide lens then cropping? It will do that in insufficient light. Below is with Halide and true 77mm 3x. Still a little camera shake.

Yes, I checked the camera settings in that photo of mine. However I no longer have an issue with any of the cameras since that post. I suppose the software had to settle (if there is such a thing) because I now have fantastic results from the iPhone camera, maybe better quality than with iOS 15.3.1. That photo I shared was taken not long after the update. No complaints now, just awesome results.

I have seen the 3x camera get stuck on the 1x camera yesterday, it didn’t adjust / switch fast enough before I took my photo. That’s when I switch to one of my third party apps and hard select the 3x. Thank you for your reply…

just picked up a samsung s21 fe. It's 20 times the camera if not more at less than half the price (619 for a 256gb). The video is VERY impressive as well. Full creative control over photos. BLOWS the pro max right out of the water. If your a camera enthusiast iphones are not the phone for you. Has an option to record a raw along side of the jpeg. I wouldn't even waste my money on the s22, s22+, or Ultra. Still want an Iphone.....maybe the 14 will see massive improvements.

13 pro max has its faults but it sure as hell is a better camera than s21 FE.

Facts, 13 Pro still has a better camera than the S21 line. The only phone which rivals the iPhone 13 Pro is the Pixel 6 Pro.
Could jut be 'grass is greener..' thing but during a recent hike, friend's 21 Ultra took better photos than my 13 pro, especially ultra wide angle and zoom (wasn't much difference in the main lens). iPhone is faster in clicking though

You can shoot RAW+JPG in the stock iPhone camera as well. You need to turn it on in the options.

it's marginally better at best......do you own both? The s21 fe is consistent and waaaaaay more tweakable. I owned two iphone 13 pro max's (both in hand at the same time) and both took dramatically different photos. The FE is 5 bills the iphone is 1g+......for marginally.....I don't think so.

All of these camera's are VERY disappointing on a creative level. The computational programming bakes in colors and settings that can't be reversed (for the most part). Again A GRAND FOR NO OPTIONS......YEAH RIGHT lol.

On a creative level I disagree; there are so many good alternatives to the stock camera app, and the hardware is diverse with the telephoto, macro and ultrawide.
It's the processing that sometimes is bad, and that the lens is not switching to the one it should (but it has become better). As previously stated, much processing is "cleared" when choosing to edit photos, primary when shooting RAW.

I don't Own a s21 FE no but I have had the s21 ultra, pixel; 6 pro and currently have the s22 ultra. The gap from the FE to the ultra models are still a decent amount of difference. the one area where iPhone is better is for moving objects. generally the Samsung phones will struggle in this area due to a slower shutter speed.

Only $460 in my city, around 1/3 of a Pro max lol

I'm looking at it from this perspective.

Cinematic mode is still in it's infancy stage....not perfected just yet. pro res has to travel off that device at a snails pace, so forget that mess. Everyone knows the video on the iphone is top notch, but I'm not in it for the video. Is the macro function great? Absolutely. Will I use it enough to make it feel like it's on the pro's side of the scale? No. The zoom stinks, it's no better than most cameras. Wide angle.....Meh, not on the pro's side. So now we're down to just the main lens. My 13 pro max was almost 1300....for the aforementioned, I don't think so. I'm going to wait just 5 short months for the 14. I'd be willing to bet ALOT of this stuff get's fixed....if not 13 hundred is just way to much to spend on a device that can't deliver on probably the most important feature of a modern day cell phone.
