There is a problem chainloading OpenCore 0.67 with an uga GPU (Mac Bootscreen GPU) on 5,1.

OC hangs in that case.

Need to test if thats just Kepler GPUs, btw @Dayo. Gotta put an Apple 5770 in after holidays for a test run.

GTX680 is Kepler.

One can try to reflash the 680 with the original bios with valid GOP bios to double check.

My Kepler GPUs without UGA (and GOP mod) work with chainloaded OC via RP.

Thanks. I've got an R9 290 that I was planning to try out once I got things up and running. Used the GTX 680 to get to Mojave without hassles and then add the Titan Ridge card as well as OpenCore now. I've read a number of posts regarding the R9 290X and I've also read that the straight 290 can be flashed to a 290X. I was hoping with OpenCore, I may not have to sort that all out if by chance it just works. Likely wishful thinking, but if you have any insight about using an R9 290 in a 5,1 running OpenCore please share?

If you have set up RP with the 680 just throw the R290 in.

if it has a gop bios you will see rp and should chainload oc.

This has been resolved here:
Just build the latest RefindPlus and it should be OK now.

Well I tried it out and it crashed and burned. No RefindPlus boot menu and when I tried to blindly select 1 nothing happened despite trying it several times more to possibly get thru the OpenCore launch as well. Although this time I'm not hung like before with the RefindPlus to OpenCore handoff. If I press the shift key it does illuminate implying that it's recognizing hardware interrupts and not truly hung. I'm guessing that means my R290 doesn't have a GOP BIOS loaded? I'll verify which card I have and do some research on TechPowerUp. I'm guessing I'll ultimately have to drop it into a Windows PC to figure this out and then likely build a flash boot USB to load a GOP BIOS to the card? That's kind of depressing, but I don't plan to leave the GTX 680 in this system regardless. I need to hold onto that to upgrade other cMPs.

Here is a big thread about adding gop to old GPUs. Had to do this with my Kepler also to add gop.

Thanks, I’d done a little searching without much luck. Always helpful to get a link from someone who’s verified the process.

While I appreciate the time you took to answer, I'd appreciate more you including the "why?" next time.

Yes, the consensus is that I have the least capable of this line. It still can help me to learn, which is why I'm messing wit it to begin with.

if you can find an affordable 3,1 it will be a much better machine. As you see in this and other threads you can run (with some tricks) up to Big Sur with them. Plus you can use some parts of 1,1 like Disks and Memory.

I've investigated quite a few places but then I see shipping costs or carrier. Seems Amazon or OWC are the only solid mail order. What's your mileage like ?

If that Goodwill had it, I'd go there: $35, but they lock down the insides, Memory is so cheap. The program is called ReConnect sponsored by Dell. Cables, keyboards anything that's donated is refurbished, memory and drives taken out, the released four sale "as is". We have people here whose business is selling refurbished units from there. If you're interested there should be one near you.

I didn't know you could run Big Sur on them. Thanks for that.

Hi Dayo. Have a question and one issue to report:

Question: what does enforcing CSR entail? Default is NO.

Issue: when attempting to build the configuration, ConfigFactory returns the following error:

Enforcing CSR is for RefindPlus to actively enforce a specific SIP setting, either enabled or disabled, whenever it is loaded.
That is, it will always specifically set the SIP as you specify if you have a reason to do so.
Default is that you don't have a specific reason to always want to make sure SIP is always set in one specific way every single time you boot up.

On the issue, try downloading again and rerun.
Let me know whether it is resolved. Thanks.

OK. Try again.
That worked.

One suggestion for future releases, if I may. Perhaps you could have ConfigFactory automatically create a backup of /Library/Application_Support/MyBootMgr/ConfigFactory.plist when updating versions. This would be helpful if one needed to revert to a previous iteration and be able to keep their previous ConfigFactory settings.

Edit: Wifi broken now in Big Sur 11.2.3. Will have to check the logs and revert.

There's something strange going on with RefindPlus and it's a repeatable behavior.

When RP boot picker appears, I have four main options:
  1. OpenCore
  2. OpenCore (alternate)
  3. MacOS Mojave
  4. MacOS Big Sur
If I select option 3 (Mojave) and then restart the computer, RP boot picker no longer displays option 3. Options 1, 2, and 4 remain visible. However, booting into OC Big Sur, then restarting the computer will cause option 3 to reappear again.

Edit: I should mention that this behavior only appeared after going to release mode.

Had a few of those myself a while ago.
Not sure what cleared it. Maybe Triple NRAM Reset.

I'll try an NVRAM reset but just to let you know, going back to debug mode caused me to lose the Vanilla Big Sur boot option as well.

Noted ... Please raise RefindPlus specific issues such as this on Github and follow the issue template.

Disregard; triple NVRAM reset sorted it out. Probably had some conflicting weirdness with whatever 067 left behind in NVRAM.

0.6.8 working fine on both of my cMPs.

Just one question: I have been in the habit of enabling SIP with CSRUTIL ENABLE --without kext --without fs and that brought greater stability to Photos app (stopped incessant iCloud syncing, which took days) and other oddities that I cannot quite remember now. So is this still necessary? Does anyone else use the --without conditions above, and for any particular or specific reason?

No idea on the specific need for that but if you do want to always have this, you can set things up to enforce this CSR Policy.

So if the regular run gives you something like csr_values 10,77 or csr_values 10,87F, you can set WrangleConfig up to always add csr_values 13,77 or csr_values 13,87F to your custom.conf file (as the case may be) and select the option to always enable SIP/SSV in ConfigFactory.

0x10 is regular value for enabling. 0x13 adds ALLOW_UNTRUSTED_KEXTS and ALLOW_UNRESTRICTED_FS

Technically, your "enabled" setting will now be a kind of "partially disabled" setting.
