yes yes, as long as it gives display it obviously worked ;)

"Worked" is all relative - for a $150 and a couple of days mucking about I've got about the same functionality (plus fan noise) that I had back in 2006 with an off-the-shelf GeForce 7300XT.

So I'd say it's a work in progress - the potential for future progress on better 10.6.4 compatibility making it all worth everyone's work.

Just wondering if this card will be easy to flash with the zeus flasher?

Diamond ATI Radeon HD 4870 GDDR5 512 MB

Thank's for the info and all the hard work here.

I posted links to the 10.6.4 patches I used to get everything working.

Hope this works for your card as well!

UPDATE: Had to remove it from my system. Works flawlessly in XT under Bootcamp but sooner or later KP's my 10.6.4 system, even with the current witch's brew of ATI kexts.

Help on ati 4870 sapphire 1gb

I need help,

I bought an ati sapphire 4870 1gb sku # 11133-99-90R. for my mac pro 1.1 ghz 2.66.
Until now still can not do anything. I installed the card and ran on windows (bootcamp) but the windows does not recognize the card. When I run the gpu-z the card is not detected.

When I saw that gpu-z did not recognize the card tried to install the card drivers to see if this was recognized but nothing happened.

The only difference now is that the fan runs at full speed.

What can I do to make windows (bootcamp) recognize the card?

Help me! :)

Your card is dead... I speak of experience...

That card sounds DOA - send it back ASAP to the retailer. It's one thing if you couldn't get it to work under MacOS, but if it's the only graphics card installed it should absolutely work under XP, Vista or W7 in bootcamp, esp if you're loading new drivers off the factory disk.

I have the same machine as serrazina, (Mac Pro 1,1 2.66). Trying to flash an XFX 4870 ZWFC ver G.1. Under OSX, panics on boot - under XP "new hardware" is detected, but the driver installation is not able to detect any XFX card present. No improvement after installation of the drivers. Both power cables are installed, XFX in slot 1, tried the 7300gt in slots 2 and 4 with the same result.
It's a new card... is it really doa?

its likely nothing wrong with the card.

new cards give KP in OSX because OSX simply cant detect them.
there are basically 3 types of cards:

1. Detected in OSX and detected by zeus
2. Detected in OSX but not by Zeus
3. Not detected in OSX, kernel panics at boot

as for windows, new cards have problem to be detected too

I would remove all ati drivers with driversweeper, then download LATEST drivers, NEVER EVER Use drivers from CD.

OKAY I'm DUMB :(

I had perfectly working XFX HD-489X-ZSFC with VGA on 10.6.2 and I clicked update and ******** **** up! Now My XFX card won't work properly, on 10.6.4 and don't know what to-do. Cindori, any thoughts? Do I need to re-flash the card? Or can what? I'm lost. :(

I dont know about VGA... but....

how to update to 10.6.4:

try it like this, from the top

Install 10.6.4
Install 10.6.4 QECI from zeus

no qeci/dualdisplay?
then
install http://groths.org/mapp.zip

no qeci/dualdisplay?
then
install http://groths.org/dualdvi.zip

When you get QECI, stop the instructions, you are done.

Thanks Cindori,

I didn't realize my monitor supports DVI, but I have that up and running now thanks to you! :)

I'm sorry, but I'm confused.

What is the difference between the 'flash' and the 'firmware' options?

I thought you flashed to update the firmware.

Since I have a working 4890, is there any advantage to running the doing the firmware update?

EDIT: if 'firmware' option is to create the firmware image to be used for flashing, why is there 'browse' in the firmware section?
OK, 'Add EFI' requires a firmware image... but I thought Zeus 2.0 was eliminating need to search for image... I'm so confused.

Thanks!

Firmware section:
Allows you to select your original pc rom (this has to be extracted in windows first) in order to generate a compatible efi rom from it.

instead of searching in 1000 of posts or asking guys (me) to make rom for your card.

you then flash with this efi moded rom.

Removing the “Power Cable Bug” warning at startup

To remove the “Power Cable Bug” warning at startup: trash /System/Library/CoreServices/AppleGraphicsWarning

wow kragwood, great job finding that out!!

I will add a function to zeus for enabling/disabling that function!

I made new zeus to disable that function, krag, u wanna test so it works? I have no macpro to test with.

or anyone else with power cable warning.

I have a Mac1,1 and will try it. I've just downloaded Zeus 2.0 - does that have your power cable warning disable patch in it?

Also, since today's SL Graphics Update I no longer have QE/CI enabled. Normally this would indicate the need to apply QECI 10.6.4 patch with correct card ID for my XFX. Understandably, Zeus 2.0's embedded QE/CI patcher has not yet been updated with today's release.

However, I see that today's SLGU already has my card's ID 94401002 in ATI4800Controller.kext/Contents/Info.plist and ATIRadeonX2000.kext/Contents/Info.plist. Is there something more that needs to be done in these specific files to enable QE/CI?

And what would I do to update the latest version of ATIRadeonX2000.kext/Contents/MacOS/ATIRadeonX2000?

-Steve

there is no QECI patch yet for the SL Graphics Update released today
always read my blog first !!
http://www.groths.org/

you can't add the id yourself, the binary has to be reverse engineered first, something I hope netkas will do in a week or two

Has anyone tried Zeus 2.0 on a 5770?

I have a Sapphire HD 5770 1GB that I am looking to flash.

Any info would be appreciated...thanks!

nevermind, got it working by booting into DOS using the Ultimate Boot CD (I had to use v4.11 for some reason).

flashed using ATIFlash 3.79 and netkas's 5770 rom. :)
