OK. Thanks all for patience.

I described the setings of my Mac Pro, earlier (in post #131, Notice that I updated this post)

I did exactly as Cindori adviced:
1. Flash back 6870 to PC firmware
2. Go to netkas.org and search for 6870 injector (www.rghost.net/12792671)
running "Kext Helper b7.app">select "ATY_Init.kext">write my admin password>click "EASY Install
* Succesful. "cross fingers and reboot" :)
3. Install it and reboot

reslut:
* in OS Profile.app the name has changed from "ATI Radeon HD NI40" to "ATI Radeon HD 6800 Series".
* DVD player works fine.
* DVI first port (upper) stopped work.

In smallluxGPU I still see "ATI Radeon HD NI40"?

Can I boot a Mac Pro 2.1 with USB Drive EFI 64 bit? It is possible solution for my hardware?

The current 6870 firmware is derived by netkas from the iMac card which is 64-bit, but when Mac Pro releases, hopefully with 6870, it will probably be in UBC EFI (32+64bit) and thus flashable to PC cards (or directly bought ffrom apple) for use in 2.1, 1.2 mac pro.

I understand. Thank you for your response.
What should I tracking to not miss this opportunity?

look out for news of new Mac Pro release, then check back here (but most importantly at netkas.org)

Hi i m new,
and i tryed to create a new rom of my sapphire hd4870 card with the zeus 2.8 tool.
But i get a error message ... Zeus.app:Contents:Resources:efirom.rom of «script» wasn’t found. (-43)
I look for the error message and i found something where Cindori said "use a slightly earlier version"
I dont find earlier versions for download.
Can someone help me please.

Thx a million!

No 1,1 models?

I'm still thinking about the best (final!) upgrade for my 1,1 Mac Pro... do you think I should get a 5870 or still wait for news about 6xxx family?

thx for the fast support :)
the tool works again
if it will work with my card i will see at home

Thanks so much for the tool. It was super easy to EFI-enable the 4870 I got.

I have a MacPro 1,1 and it works well, with one problem.

The BIOS lists the card as 113-B50702-106

my sapphire 4890 NE dosn't work with lino 10.7.3

Hi,
i've a MP 1.1 with a flashed ati 1900xt and Lion 10.7.3.
Now i've decided to replace the video card with a Sapphire new edition 4890. I've flashed it with ati flash and then i've loaded the driver with zeus tools for lion 10.7.2.
Nevertheless, the card is slow.... unusable....
Are drivers the causes?
Thanks a lot for your help

Luca

My advice : Don't get 4890. It's not supported anymore, and it's reeeeally old.
7000 series are here and that means you can find cheap used 6870's for like $100

Hello,

I followed the really simple instructions to flash ATI 4870 1GB card (Powercolor, that is reference I guess)

this is the result :

screenshot04.jpg

Has it something to do with the fact that EFI modified ROM and original BIOS are exactly the same size

screenshot03dx.jpg

is it possible that something on EFI adding went wrong? Or is it regular?

Using Zeus 2.8 on Lion 10.7.2 and Mac Pro 2,1

This is how the graphic card is seen at the moment

Didn't do any patch

PS. people like gert getting the error below, just clean installation of Zeus with Appdelete or similar and just reinstall, it worked for me ;)

imac question

I'm thinking of upgrading my imac's gpu to a 6970m I understand that this card is basically a 6850. Before I spend hours pulling everything apart, I have some questions. If anyone can answer any of them it would be greatly appreciated.

1) Would I be able to use Zeus and the 6850 efi to flash the 6970m taken out of a PC laptop, to use in my imac?

2) I read that an older version of zeus actually used the 6970m EFI from an imac, as the 6850 EFI. is this still the case?

3) If not, does it matter? If I use the 6850 EFI, will my 6970m be identified in 'about this mac' as a 6850 or a 6970m?

4) Also, this might be a stupid question, but will I be able to boot to OS X to use Zeus, with the non-flashed card? Then flashing it will simply add the EFI boot screen. I understand that Lion added the ability to run non-mac cards once at the desktop.

5) Lastly, does the VRAM amount matter? The card listed on Zeus says 6850 1GB, but the card I would like to use has 2GB. Does this make a difference?

1. no, you need a 6950m efi firmare.
2. zeus does not "use efi", it uses a flasher from a iMac firmware package, but thats irrellevant in regards to compatability
3. it may simply just not work, since those two cards are different
4. unknown, works for desktop GPU but no one has tried that with iMac gpus.

5. the firmware you use to flash with, must match the specifications of your card.

Thank you for the quick reply Cindori. Sorry for my ignorance.

Do you think I have any chance of doing this at all (with the software tools available from yourself and others)? Perhaps if I could get someone to dump their imac's 6970m 2GB firmware for me?

Or should I just forget this whole idea of upgrading on the cheap?

There exists a mac 6970m 2GB as an option on the top end imac.

I was just £1.70 short of winning an ebay auction for a 6970m. I figured I'd put it in, see if the OS works and go from there. Them come up quite often - usually out of an alienware laptop - and theres more on ebay atm so I'll probably get one soon and be guinea pig.

Thanks for the rom. I think I'll aim to get a 1GB then. :)

To "The Rominator". I'm in the LA area. If you can help me out, that would be great. I'll come to you and get you a cool 6 pack if the offer is still standing.

I bought a Mac Pro 4,1 off eBay. Inside was a nVidia GT 545. The guy said it can be flashed and will work with Lion and Mountain Lion. Pretty much, the system is working with a GT120, but not with the GT 545.

Either the guy is talking out of his a**, or I just can't figure it out. Does anybody have any experience with the GT545? If not, I'll just buy a 4870 off eBay and try the Zeus program.

Regardless, if somebody is located in LA and can teach how to use this thing, let me know. Thanks.
