First of all, you can buy it on day 1 or day 428, you still won't have any guaranty that they will deliver quality software.

Second of all, quality software is... software. You might want to talk about iOS, not the iPhone.
To be fair it's the combination of the hardware and software. There have been plenty of glitches that were exclusive to the new phones like the rattling cameras. If you wait a little bit these things get fixed. Yes there's no guarantee but at least you can hear about others' experiences before you jump in. I agree overall that it's a software problem. But I also understand not being happy when you spend your money to upgrade to something that has issues/worse performance that you didn't have before.

Just chiming in again.. I concur with previous commenters that iOS 16 never presented this issue on the 13 Pro but it's consistent on my 14 Pro. Every morning it's the worst. Could it perhaps be related to the battery or memory on the 14 Pro ? Perhaps after a full charge overnight, something is off..
Also, I wonder if just the regular 14 models experience this issue

I think it's worth not assuming that it's purely a software issue

The issue first presented itself to me in iOS 16 beta with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Before the 14 was even released.

And then I've had it on every iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max model after that.

Some pretty rich irony here too. Android used to get ripped - and rightly so - for being laggy…

I wonder if it’s more of a power management issue, where the CPU or GPU gets moved to a low power state, then doesn’t ramp up quickly enough. Pure conjecture

I am coming from 12 years of Android (Samsung, mostly) phones. Each iteration saw massive improvements over the last, particularly in the areas of battery life and fluidity of the UI. I never saw any lag or stutter on my last Android device. A lot of people act like Android is exactly as good now as it was in 2010.

Your conjecture sounds possible.

Curiously, the stutter still has not returned on my 14 Pro since my last reboot 72+ hours ago. I’m on beta 3, and previously (on 16.1.1 and earlier) it would usually show up within the first day.

For what it’s worth, I had this issue on my 14 pro and 16.1.1 has completely fixed it for 2 weeks+ now, not a single stutter…

I was observing this thread for quite some time.

First time I experienced the issue is when iOS 15 launched and I had an XR. iOS 14 was flawless in its entirety.

When I switched to the 14 Pro, the issue continued the same way.

The reason I’m posting is because I have yet to encounter the issue since 16.1.1. I have AOD enabled and didn’t touch any wallpaper settings. The phone was set up as new when I switched to it.

I have 27 apps on a 128Gb model.

Apple disabled RAM limitations for applications in iOS 15 because iPad needed more RAM to run advanced software like Photoshop, Illustrator etc.

it’s very strange but I, the stutter hater, haven’t seen it since iOS 16.2B3 9 days ago. Not even once. I haven’t changed any setting. 456 apps, 512Gb and 1Tera in current use.

I went almost a week on 16.2b3 without stutter and then it came back finally!

I learned my lesson. I am not going to buy an iPhone on day 1 until I trust them to deliver quality software again. It's like I paid more money to downgrade and they don't even seem to acknowledge this stutter issue when it's making the user experience miserable.

I am actually searching for new/used iPhone 13 pm with iOS 15 that are decently priced.
I've had the same issues on my 13 Po, it's software related

I’ve been using 16.2 beta 1 for over weeks, and I only had a few stutters after a few days from the installation, then it was gone. Even though, with 16.0 - 16.1 this stutter used to drive me crazy.
I installed 16.2 beta 3 about 7 days ago. No restarts since then. I haven’t seen a single stutter.

I've just turned on reduce motion and will probably keep it on moving forward. It removes the weather animations but I don't care. I can't take the stutter and lag anymore. This has easily been the worst iOS update they've ever had. Every day I come across bugs in the software. Yesterday it was the music player. My iPhone 14PM can't scrub in a song and auto play. I have to scrub where I want to go, then click pause, then click play again.

iOS 16 is a complete cluster and I hate it. Apple really blew it with this one.

FWIW, I have a 14 PM and I haven’t seen it so far. I don’t use my phone all the time though. I use my iPad and MacBook more often. I am still on 16.0.2.

Its there, you just haven't noticed it. Its not a "my phone doesn't have this" issue. All 14 Pro models have the issue.

It will come back. The new beta doesn't fix it.

14 Pro Max, no stutters whatsoever.

Maybe iOS 16 came bundled with CSAM and that's what has been causing those issues 🤷‍♂️

The stutter is a disaster in the overall experience. I’m starting to think there’s something related to ICloud, in the sense that Apple is actively and randomly (probably) resolving the issue for some people.

It’s only an hypothesis. It may come back in a few hours.

I wouldn’t be so sure. We don’t know why this issue happens. Maybe it’s solved for some people because of our specific conditions.

It has nothing to do with conditions of your phone. It’s a universal problem with the OS and it affects all of them.
