iPhone 8 are for the people who freak out over change, like the OP. You adjusted when you first got the iPhone. You’ll adjust again, one day.

It’s funny you say that, me being someone that frequently goes between iOS and Android and enjoy both and don’t have any undying allegiance to either. My thing is this, the Note 8 offers a very similar design to the IPhone X without the notch in a bigger form factor. So if the X is too small for some or the notch is to off putting why not try something new. And I don’t care what phone someone picks, but just feel like the 8 and 8 plus is a waste. If they already have a 6 plus or 7 plus stay with that, but if they want something new they then go all out.

When you switch to Android, do you ever miss the continuity of iCloud and iMessage across devices? Honestly that’s the only reason I haven’t experimented with a Samsung device. Mac/iPad/iPhone all connected together as one is hard to beat.

BTW I found it funny that one of the iPhone X function that I am really liking was in my Samsung Galaxy S2 about 5 years ago: The phone would remain unlocked while I was looking at the screen. The iPhone X implementation feels much more well done and robust of course (5 years of tech evolution along with a super - ambitious - flagship launch).
I have been loving my iPhones for the last three years, but I realized this feature in my last Samsung was so useful. No more having to change the screen lock timeout when reading long text articles etc.

It would be nice to see and experience a feature launch war between Apple and Samsung in the next few years, the phones would become more and more capable pretty quickly.

About the current topic - I can see how some people may not like X after a 7/8+, because of screen size differences. I think Apple didn't really expect/intend X to have so much demand and people switching from 7/8+. They probably expected the higher price to result in lower demand, and only hardcore early adapters to really go for X who would be more forgiving with the (not very major IMO) screen size/feature downgrades.
It does look like they most likely expected 8/8+ to sell much better than they did. There were reports of 8/8+ manufacture orders being cut by half - I guess Apple was caught by surprise themselves.

That unlock feature is still there in the galaxies...as long as you are looking at the device...it can remain unlocked. You just have to go in the settings and turn it on and yes its much more refined now.

Well I guess the good thing about opinions, we all have one. I too had the 7 plus and no way in hell would I step back to that phone. If you like it better than jump back to it. You don’t need us here to coddle you and help you feel better about your choices in life. The phone has only been out a day and a lot of apps haven’t even been optimized yet. I for one will give it the chance it needs because for me apple has no alternative better the that X. Yeah hopefully next year we will get an X Plus which is a little wider, but I’m loving the new form factor and gestures. Flicking apps closed is so satisfying lol. I love Face ID and think my wrist is going to thank me because holding the 7 plus for too long it would start getting pain because how heavily it felt. But to each his own.

Also gone from a 7 Plus to the X. Holding the Plus for a long time would hurt my fingers if I held it in one hand. The width of it just didn’t fit my hands great.

However I still wouldn’t switch it for the smaller 7. Not so much because of the large screen though that is a bonus but because of the extra battery life, double cameras and 1GB more RAM.

Unsure if they make an X Plus model what I’ll do. I really like this size but no doubt it’ll have a bigger battery still and something else to sway me. Still I’ll enjoy a year of a phone that is comfortable to hold

Except partially true at least in underlying point.

For a 64gb 8/8 plus you're talking $29.19 (8) or $33.34 (8 Plus) per month on carrier plans; and the 64gb X is $41.63 on carrier plan.

If your sole concern is the extra $12.44/$8.29 per month respectively, then you probably shouldn't be buying any new phone, even a $500 one, to begin with.

Exactly. I think people who don't like my comment, dislike it because it's too close to home.

I mean if the iPhone X was the same price as last years , everyone would be be raving about it.

I find all the people who own one and can truly afford it (i.e. don't think twice about the cost) absolutely love it.

Are you american? this is such an american thing ... devide amount xy by xy and everything looks amazingly cheap! explains those „get a new Audi for only 199 $ a month and get a 500 $ amazon gift card for free!“ commercials

Variabilizing cost makes a ton of sense. If people didn't do that, a lot of people would be homeless and the rental market for housing and the mortgage markets wouldn't exist.

The iPhone upgrade programs are essentially doing the same thing for an iPhone that mortgages and rentals do for housing.

If you think that's dumb then you need to go study economics.

I have the 7+ and my brother has the 6+. We are both returning the X. Everyone has different reasons, but the screen size alone is worth keeping the 7+ in my opinion. For me the size of the X is a step backwards. I’m older so maybe my eyes are not what used to be. However I refuse to zoom into websites again or increase font size to read it. As for emails entire texts are moved down an entire line to accommodate the X screen. It’s not world events but it makes a difference IMO. For 1200 bucks it needs to be far superior. The camera on the X kicks butt and wish the 7 plus could compare with that feature. Hopefully next year Apple will release a plus size version.

Yes...I have both Note8 and iPhone X. when I move to note, I miss the vertical experience that Apple provides, from iMessage to iCloud to bookmarks to findmyphone..etc. Honestly I think the note8 is a better hardware phone. but the experience on the iPhone is clearly better imho.

I know so many people returning this phone. I don't remember so many people flocking to return an iphone like they are with the X.

I had a 6Plus, an S7 Edge, and an 8 Plus.

I picked up the iPhone X yesterday and I love it. I think the screen is the perfect size, IMO.

I felt a little bad canceling my iPhone X order from Best Buy. Had my name on the box. I waited nearly two years for it and skipped the 7 because of the X.

Then when I did my second DoorDash order today, I realized the Dasher menu is really bad on iOS. On Android, I can find the menu for the chat support in case I need them to cancel the order. Also Wi-Fi hotspot is not as easy as turning on the toggle. It takes time for my devices to get connected instantly.

For anyone who loves it, keep loving it. We all got our own preferences and things we like and don't like, need and don't need. Thinking of the Essential 2. The first Essential is actually shorter than the X but 1 mm wider. I will consider it at $300.

Dasher
Tethering

^ Very important to me every single day.

Android has to be my daily driver now. Literally, daily "DoorDash" driver. While I'm fine with iOS being secondary. One thing I like with iOS' Dasher app is you can have location service OFF and can still use it.

I actually thought about going to bigger Android this go around but use my Apple Watch way to much. As stated disappointed with the X size factor but know several people who love it including my daughter. As for me returning since use to the wider plus.

A lot of people in the forum upgrade real frequently so sticking with the narrower X isn’t a big deal if Apple decides to come up with a wider phone.

So delaying the inevitable when they will eventually get the X1 - probably same phone dimensions but upgraded specs. Nice.

Wife got the X and I️ have the 7+ almost ended up giving her my 7 + and take the X but felt guilty.

To be honest the screen was taller with the notch but narrower, and when comparing a YouTube video stretched and native. The + screen wins for me, and I don’t know how I feel about the rounded edges also.

This is the exact reason why the iPhone Plus screen is the clear winner here, forget about the notch, when both are displaying a video in native resolution, the plus is clearly bigger. When the iPhone X is edge to edge and zoomed in, part of the video is cut out. Apple IMO really messed up doing the 2436 x 1125 resolution on the iPhone X, they should have went with a 1080p or 1440p display.

Not my picture but this is another example of part of the video being cut off on the X compared to a plus phone.

So there's this thing called a screen on the front of it. You know, that big expanse of space taking up most of it. See it? Tap it. There, notifications on show. If you want to reply, pick it up as you would anyway, unlock it and reply. Simples.

Like I said before, you clearly didn't buy one and are just spreading verbiage.

Notifications say a text message doesn't show what the message say unless it's unlocked, therefore I have to pick up the X from my desk to unlock it. Do you even have the X? And I've already posted my receipt.

This thread is not about education, it’s about you feeling good about your return. People keep saying what is so good about the X over the 8 and 8 plus. How about we ask what is so good about the 8 and 8 plus over the 7 and 7 plus. Uh wireless charging, which is a feature that really makes no sense because the charging pad is still connected to a plug. How about the 7 plus and 7 plus over the 6s and 6s Plus, slightly faster internals. Let’s be honest Apple has been trolling all of us since the 7 and 7 plus we’re introduced with the same damn design. You can say if it’s not broken why fix it, but I say that those engineers and designers have been getting off easy with the stuff they have been putting out and glad they are stepping it up a bit this year.

Nah, it's about educating others and not feeling good about return, but you think what you wanna think. I've already made up my mind on returning it before making this thread, I don't need the full 14 days to make up my mind.
[doublepost=1509953636][/doublepost]
Funny, well the Note 8 is 1440p (a standard resolution) and still crops videos when you zoom in. So I guess there is no getting around that. Lmao.

Uhh... why would you zoom in? It shouldn't crop if you're watching a 1080p / 1440p video on a 1440p screen at full screen.

This is likely true. I would say the average iPhone consumer won't upgrade as frequently as somebody who is heavily into tech. Especially given the price point of smart phones today. But for somebody that wants to own A new iPhone every year, wouldn't be that much of a consequence when the next iPhone is to be announced within less than a year.

Coming from the 7 plus and I’m loving the X. Granted the only reason I got the 7 plus was because of the camera features and then with it being really slow at work I loved watching Netflix on it. So I swore I’d never downsize.
But Netflix is great on the X and once the apps I use (Tapatalk etc) are optimized for the X. It’s going to be even better.

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.

EDIT 11/6/17: Yes, true tone was turned off on the X, and both brightness was turned to the max on both the Plus and X, the plus is brighter and cooler, the X was less bright and more warm/yellowish.

For people who doesn't believe I actually purchased one, here's my return receipt.

You have the video zoomed in to fill the screen. You can do the same cropping on both phones with zoom. Double tap the screen while playing the video to display the proper aspect ratio.

You have the video zoomed in to fill the screen. You can do the same cropping on both phones with zoom. Double tap the screen while playing the video to display the proper aspect ratio.

But then you have black borders and a smaller video, that's exactly my point that the display is smaller when content is being played at its native 1080p resolution.

Zoomed in isn't native, it's zoomed in. The Native aspect ratio has boarders. The iPhone X is not a 16x9 display. Educate yourself on aspect ratios.

If you read my post correctly, that's exactly what I'm saying. When content is being played at its native resolution on the iPhone X, there are borders. When the content is filled edge to edge on the screen, the content is cropped.

That's exactly why you need to educate yourself about Aspect Ratios. You still aren't getting it. When you Zoom anything in, it's cropped no matter what on any device or screen.

I know that, I've been saying this since the beginning of this thread if you've been following like any logical person would do.

Not sure why you're arguing about it. The tech specs have been released officially since early September. It's not a 16x9 screen it's larger at 19x9 or something like that. With any screen, zooming to fill the screen is a nice word for cropping the image. If you understood aspect ratios you would understand this very simple concept.
