I just cant help but feel if that were the issue, we would not be having this conversation.

Making six figures also means you should know that we want to maximize our deductions for the year. Financing a phone over time is not a smart deduction for someone making "six figures". We need all the deductions we can find. Ill take the $1k up front vs over time. Correct me if Im wrong.

But here’s the thing unless your Suze Orman we all make bad financial decisions once in a while. I don’t buy Jordans because I feel they are over priced for a shoe but people still line up every time a pair comes out. Someone could also say buying Starbucks is a waste because you can make coffee at home, or going on family trips is a waste because that should be saved for your retirement or you children’s future education. If we were all as money Conscious as we could be half the modern day companies would not exist. But if I want to spend 1000 on a phone that’s my choice, not yours. Maybe we all should just take a breath and just be happy we have the luxury to be in the forum using what ever device we have.

well said. I stand corrected.

I'm not a tax lawyer, so I don't know what deduction there would be for buying a phone as an individual (I'd be surprised if there is one). And then, even if you could so deduct, you would have to compare the amount of the deduction (reduction in overall tax bill from the $1,000 purchase) vs. the present value of the money you have by not laying it out all at once. I'm not smart enough to figure that all out, but I can't see the $1,000 purchase really significantly changing the ultimate tax deductions you get that tax year (its not like $1,000 would come off your bottom-line on what you owe for taxes that year).

Agree. It's only a dollar for dollar deduction if its a business expense that a corporation purchased; then it reduces the business' income dollar for dollar that month by the $1000.

If you're a W2 employee you can't deduct ANYTHING you buy like this type of purchase to begin with. Employees don't get deductions of any type for personal electronics.

You can only deduct purchases like these types as an individual to begin with if you are self employed and the device is used at least partially for business; and then you only get the % of business usage as a deduction not 100% unless you have a personal phone too.

Im not sure where people get their tax advice/knowledge from honestly before telling others they're doing it wrong. You dont just get deductions for everything you buy...

Sorry, I consider the 8 plus a mistake phone or an ,”Oops I did it again”, phone o”in the words of Britney. Sorry like many others I got tired of those damn huge bezels and huge clunky phone. Is it perfect, no and nothing is but suggesting the the 8 plus is a better choice is crazy. No way in hell is it. I would rather you try and Android than get a phone that has had the same boring design for the last 4 years.

The plus is the better choice of you consume media and watch videos in landscape mode. The decrease in width and notch make landscape mode on the X a sub premium experience. If you use portrait mode only the X is fine.

The notch looks like **** though.

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.
Touch Id is Gone... Accept It Already!!!!!

The Notch doesn’t bother me as my eyes gravitate to the middle of the screen more often that not. I prefer the notch over the top having a full bezels. But also look forward to the phones of the future being fully bezeless.

I have those same concerns. Its not the perfect phone and is actually harder to use with one hand vs the 7+.
BUT - im keeping mine. I love the camera which is a major major upgrade.
I'll be anxiously waiting for the X+ because this screen upgrade is actually a downgrade.

The screen size ratio may not be to your liking but, the screen itself is an upgrade to what you had.

in terms of technology? Yeah.

Not in function though. Its smaller and shows less content. For example, i cant look at it and know that my Airpods are connected. I dont know what my battery % is. I dont know if bluetooth is connected. All things I used to see without unlocking the phone.

This screen makes me want a jailbreak again - i havent wanted/cared for that in years.

Funny I went the other way, Bought a 8 Plus 10 days ago because everyone including Apple store said I wouldn't get an X until after Christmas. Then yesterday my iMessage blew up with friends walking into Apple and getting what they wanted. I returned my 8 Plus and picked up an X. Very happy with the complete package, yeah there are some minor pain points, mostly learning curve, but no showstoppers. While sitting at the setup table I would guess about 70/30 X vs 8 models being purchased. Women 8 not plus, guys X. Just ignore the typical passive aggressive Macrumors negitive posters and enjoy what works for you. Great to have choices.

Yep, I pre ordered mine. Then, when I went to the Apple Store today for my Series 3 Apple watch. I saw a short line for the X (people camped out there on launch day). Everyone in line got their iPhone X. I was happy for them. :D

In your opinion.

If it's so bad, return it and get an iPhone 8/8+.

Idiotic comment of the year.

Except partially true at least in underlying point.

For a 64gb 8/8 plus you're talking $29.19 (8) or $33.34 (8 Plus) per month on carrier plans; and the 64gb X is $41.63 on carrier plan.

If your sole concern is the extra $12.44/$8.29 per month respectively, then you probably shouldn't be buying any new phone, even a $500 one, to begin with.

I’m on about the last part on the comment. The poster sounds like an idiotic child.

I think besides it being size. The thing I am debating also is the price. If I am going to finance more than a $1000 for a phone. It better be something amazing. Not just something that is a nice upgrade, but otherwise meh. I know some of you will talk about specs all day and night. But I really don’t see where it’s worth so much. So that is what it will come to for me. Whether I want to carry that smaller phone, and whether I want to pay that amount for the phone.

I saw an iPhone X in a store for the first time and I was underwhelmed. There was an iPhone 8 display unit next to it so I was comparing and I actually preferred the 8 screen. The X screen was too reddish.

I am curious about face id because my work phone has a retina scan and it works decently but if lights are bright or I'm outside, it will never work for me.

I know many of you will love this phone but for me, I don't see enough pluses with it over the other iphones to pay the premium. The main differentiators are the screen, less bezel, face id, and animojis. If the screen was leaps and bounds better, I would be all over this. For the other items, I don't care.

who cares what I am? It's that many dollars over 12 months for most people who upgrade yearly by apple or carrier plans.

It's literally under $150 difference max over a yearly upgrade plan difference. The numbers are the numbers.

Again if $150 for the year is the #1 concern perhaps buying any new multi-hundred dollar phone isn't the best financial choice to make.....

I'll just drop these images here since a few people mentioned issues with the screen size being smaller compared to the Plus.

Notice how the ears of the X is above the Plus's screen.

well not everything works like in murica thats why i am asking. i can either pay it out right for 1.149 Euro or starting at 51 Euro a month which adds an additional 100 Euro in interests by the time it is paid off and that does not even include a plan yet! back in the day i could get an iPhone for 1 Euro on a 39 Euro unlimited plan

If you take the first image where it shows the length and width of each phone. This is what I was talking about. If you make a phone with those dimensions of a plus, and make it edge to edge. It would wipe the floor with any competition. And yet, Apple missed out on the chance to do so.

That's going to be an iPhone X Plus for sure.

That would be ridiculous and no one would be able to reach the top of the phone; try reaching above the earpeice to the top left (if right handed) on your Plus holding the phone normally; unless you're Shaq maybe. I have large hands and really awkwardly stretching I can hit the carrier name with my right thumb on the Plus as is.

They may do it with an X Plus type phone, but really you're approaching an ipad mini as the Plus is 6.5" diagonal (if all screen).

And truthfully Apple is really unlikely to keep that old aspect ratio if the smaller X is this new ratio. So to get as wide as the current Plus the new X Plus device would need to be taller than the current Plus to keep the new aspect ratio. It would be near totally unusable 1 handed.

I did a side by side comparison with the X and the 8 Plus today and had to opt for the 8. I just didn’t see the advantages that the extra several hundred dollars gets you with the X.
