Nothing wrong with either side, but people who feel like X users bash the 8 users, it's the same thing the other way around. Everyone keeps throwing around words such as inferior or superior, when it's just a silly way of justifying your buying decision. There are advantages to both the 8 and the X and it just comes down to the user which they prefer. Just let it go.

I think that's what half the people are forgetting here. I also think it depends what camp you come from. I'm realizing that a lot of people that absolutely adore the iPhone X have never had another smartphone other than iPhone. From what I've observed, a lot of people that aren't as wowed by the iPhone X and possibly prefer the 8 Plus or another smartphone have had experience with other smartphones such as the Galaxy Note.

But I think that we're at the point that now people are no longer buying phones for their usefulness but for what they represent and Apple loves this. Suddenly, it's easy to tell who spent over $1000 on a smartphone.

Yea, Apple has it's grip firmly around a lot of people, myself included. The price isn't such a factor for me any longer because it's just $2 more than my last phone. It also comes down to what the individual values in a smartphone. For me, it has nothing to do with specs or features. I think this is what competition fails to realize. The recent Samsung ad is a perfect example of this. I have no idea who they are targeting.

The same people targeted in the ''Get a Mac" ads. Samsung wants person X with $900 to spend on a phone, to only buy THEIR phone. They're trying to say, hey you get these features earlier than the iPhone.

I like Sammy phones, but I like products that are very refined. The iPhone 8 plus is refined for me. Is it exciting, no. But it it just works. I'm sure I would be fine with the X, but having had a few first iteration iDevices I'm more of a fan of the second gen products. iPad 2, Apple Watch 2, iPhone 3G. I have less than a year before the X2 (or whatever) comes out and I'm excited.

Yea I see your comparison, but I don't know if bashing the platform you currently use is a way to entice customers. I'd imagine most iOS users don't really care if Samsung had feature X a couple years ago. I have no information to support whether or not it worked for Apple back in the day. Yea the 8 Plus is a great option, it just comes down to preference. I was expecting more bugs and refinement needed with the X, but I haven't found anything. For a first gen device, they really nailed it.

BTW I found it funny that one of the iPhone X function that I am really liking was in my Samsung Galaxy S2 about 5 years ago: The phone would remain unlocked while I was looking at the screen. The iPhone X implementation feels much more well done and robust of course (5 years of tech evolution along with a super - ambitious - flagship launch).
I have been loving my iPhones for the last three years, but I realized this feature in my last Samsung was so useful. No more having to change the screen lock timeout when reading long text articles etc.

It would be nice to see and experience a feature launch war between Apple and Samsung in the next few years, the phones would become more and more capable pretty quickly.

About the current topic - I can see how some people may not like X after a 7/8+, because of screen size differences. I think Apple didn't really expect/intend X to have so much demand and people switching from 7/8+. They probably expected the higher price to result in lower demand, and only hardcore early adapters to really go for X who would be more forgiving with the (not very major IMO) screen size/feature downgrades.
It does look like they most likely expected 8/8+ to sell much better than they did. There were reports of 8/8+ manufacture orders being cut by half - I guess Apple was caught by surprise themselves.
It does seem like unexpected; however, Tim said in the keynote that it was the future for who knows how many years. Therefore, they shouldn't be caught by surprised.

... Again if $150 for the year is the #1 concern perhaps buying any new multi-hundred dollar phone isn't the best financial choice to make.....

If two different drinks (coffee for example) cost $1 and $5, are you going to say to the people that purchase the $1 drink that they shouldn't be buying that and instead should drink tap water?

Maybe it is just that they don't see the added value the $5 drink brings. It isn't that they can't afford it.

I have owned every iPhone model since the beginning. Once the “Plus” model came out, I was hooked on the larger screen and larger keyboard. The iPhone X does not have a larger screen than the Plus. It is measured diagonally and it is thinner and taller so the keyboard feels just like the smaller 8. Seeing that many of the applications are not optimized yet, it feels like an 8 due to the cropped black bars. The X is a great device and shows promise but it is far from perfect for everyone.

I got my X on Friday.

It's going back. Everything on the phone is awesome, but I can't deal with the reduced text size. I realize you can make it bigger, but not everything scales right. My eyes just aren't what they used to be and I find myself straining to read my phone.

I have to admit that the notch and rounded corners also drive me nuts. I realize that most people have gotten over that, but it's just not working for me. It's not a deal breaker, but since the text suffers because of the reduction in width, the phone is going back anyway.
Oh Apple...you should have given us a choice of a Plus Version of the X! Minus the notch!

So you want less screen real estate to add a status bar? Or more screen real estate and move the status bar into the camera area. Either way the status bar stays and is an unusable section of screen.

Not sure the notch will disappear. But there will be a plus version of the X. Just like Samsung has the S8 and S8+, next year we will get an iPhone X Plus. I suspect they had so many production challenges with the X that they didn't have the capacity to add a second form factor.

Personally I find the screen is so long that it doesn't bother me that the notch area is not usable. I prefer the edge to edge design that the notch concept provides. It bothers me less than having a larger bezel at the top. Obviously this is a matter of taste, but the point is a lot of us like what Apple did.

Do you know what the dpi is set to on the X? Would you adjust it if you could?

The worst culprit was the s7 Edge, most adjusted it immediately via developer setting option.

All the threads of “returning iPhone X” will not happen if money is no object. Due to the hype, a lot of people who returned, are returning and will return the phone, got the phone by spending beyond their means with the thought they can return them within the return period. No matter what justification these people noted, it always come down to price and economical reasons.l in their real lives.

You've said this like you know it as fact. How could anyone have any other reason to return this phone unless they were poor right? You can read, your on this thread so must have gone through people's posts. Or would you say they are liars?

Right. Because no one has issues with the notch, color shift, yellow hue, poor uniformity, narrower screen than Plus, or with Face ID. Also no one cares that Apple removes the headphone jack and is pushing Bluetooth audio, yet fails to implement AptX, AptX HD, or LDAC. And also people who would rather spend $950 on the Plus or Note 8 vs. $1150 on the X are poor peasants. :cool:

I'm so tired of these comments yet somehow can't help but reply / take the troll bait. Dammit!

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications with my 7 plus. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.

EDIT 11/6/17: Yes, true tone was turned off on the X, and both brightness was turned to the max on both the Plus and X, the plus is brighter and cooler, the X was less bright and more warm/yellowish.

For people who doesn't believe I actually purchased one, here's my return receipt.

and here is an example of video cropping on the X compared to the plus (not my picture)

Is that video cropping happening of iTunes movies? That cropping is awful!

This is the exact reason why the iPhone Plus screen is the clear winner here, forget about the notch, when both are displaying a video in native resolution, the plus is clearly bigger. When the iPhone X is edge to edge and zoomed in, part of the video is cut out. Apple IMO really messed up doing the 2436 x 1125 resolution on the iPhone X, they should have went with a 1080p or 1440p display.

Not my picture but this is another example of part of the video being cut off on the X compared to a plus phone.
[doublepost=1509953004][/doublepost]

Notifications say a text message doesn't show what the message say unless it's unlocked, therefore I have to pick up the X from my desk to unlock it. Do you even have the X? And I've already posted my receipt.
[doublepost=1509953331][/doublepost]

Nah, it's about educating others and not feeling good about return, but you think what you wanna think. I've already made up my mind on returning it before making this thread, I don't need the full 14 days to make up my mind.
[doublepost=1509953636][/doublepost]

Uhh... why would you zoom in? It shouldn't crop if you're watching a 1080p / 1440p video on a 1440p screen at full screen.

That picture is my biggest issue with this X as much as I watch videos on it.

Lol. “Same design for 4 years.”

Have no problem with the design of the iPhones. It is a phone!

If the format works good that is good with me. Just cause they can make a phone smaller does not mean it is a great idea! Many will be sorry when the drop their X as with out any bezels it is going to break for sure. When it cost more, a LOT more, to replace the back than the screen, I got to wonder about that new design.

That is completely false in my case. I am well off and can afford the x just fine. I returned mine for many of the same reasons others returned it. Coming from a plus model, this just doesn’t work for me. Between the 8 plus and the X, they’re obvious differences but it’s not HUGE like some people make it out to be. I’ll enjoy my “4 year old same phone”. The X isn’t for everyone. Personally I like the home button. Face ID was a pain in the ass. To each their own.
