Just try it. I thought the same thing. But it is a better watch, and I have a Hermes series 7. The flat screen is better, and the extra brightness makes the screen easier to read all the time. If you were the ultra and then go back to the series 7, the series 7 will seem really small and inadequate.
I disagree and have an Ultra and a Series 7 45mm Hermes watch too. There are pluses/minuses of both, which make it a tough decision. The Series S Hermes is slick looking with better watch Hermes watch faces and also looks more fashionable. The Ultra pluses I already mentioned above, but feels bulky. Tough decision, definitely not a no brainer for me.

I will probably return the Ultra and hope the pluses make it to a SS Hermes Series 9 next year.

Agree with the above. Have been wearing an Ultra and S7 SS for a few days now and the S7 SS just works fine, it lasts circa 2 days and looks good with every type of clothing. The ultra is very new age but there is something easy and uncomplicated about the S7. I think I will also be returning my Ultra.

I guess to each their own. I love mine, and I didn’t think I would at first. I think it’s the brighter screen and flat display because it can’t be the screen because it isn’t any bigger. It may be that I just like bigger watches. Lol.
I do love the Hermes watch faces which is why I kept the watch. It’ll keep getting the Hermes watch faces no upgrade needed. I don’t think you can go wrong with either, and it’s not like this will be the last time they will sell the ultra. Lol.

The way Apple only goes after big numbers, I don’t think we can make that assumption.
I think the ultra has sold well enough. They said they didn’t expect to sell many during the presentation and currently it’s sold out for in store.

I also think the ultra just makes sense. The titanium versions of the Apple Watch don’t make much sense when there is stainless steel. So they made the titanium finish have a purpose and made it the ultimate sport watch. It will be like this for awhile. Hermes —sb, normal Apple Watch—other steel varieties, Apple Watch ultra-titanium, and Apple Watch cheap variety—aluminum.

If you have ANY doubts by the time the return deadline approaches, return it! Unless money’s no object and you don’t mind owning a secondary watch, save it for next year, which should have some meaningful upgrades if rumors are correct…

I’m with ya. I still have my Ultra just for me to finish up my video review on, taking advantage of the extra 2 weeks from setting up a return through the Apple online store, but is going back around this weekend. I actually MISS having my gold stainless Series 7, to be honest, as it just looks sleeker and gold’s my favorite color…

What kind of rumors are out there for the series 9?

So far a keeeper. Love the battery and screen brightness. The bands suck so I’m glad I can use the sports bands.
I thought so too until my AWU ordered with the Blue/Gray Trail band finally arrived. I must say that the comfort, softness, overall quality, and included Titanium band connectors on this Ultra band version changed my mind!

The Series 9 is supposed to have an actual new chip (dubbed the S9), which is supposed to be faster than what we have now, but also be more energy efficient, giving longer battery life that should go past the 18-hour mark on the Series 7 and 8, while probably giving the same effect to the Ultra. Again, what exactly will be bright remains a mystery, but that’s what I’ve been hearing and we are overdue for a refresh of the processor since this is the 3rd year of the S6!

Also, there might be a slight redesign for the non-Ultra watches next year, too, perhaps taking some cues from the Ultra. Again, this is what’s being rumored, but, nonetheless, next year will be more substantial than these last couple of years, if any/all of this proves to be true…

I have been struggling with this as well.... I have had a SS model in series 0,3, and 4.... Ti Edition in the 6 and 7... I believe the better protection and anti scratch screen is well worth the value all by itself.

While I enjoyed dressing up the SS, the Titanium edition has a great blend of dress up and sporty style and lightness.

Currently with the Edition Series 7, I do not need the features of the Series 8...but I may have went for it if a Ti version was available.

The Ultra is an amazing device, but I am trying to convince myself that version 2 of the ultra will be better and I should juuuust wait a year. Maybe there will be more features?

I think it will be a challenging year because for the last two weeks I have scoured the forms and have seen mostly all happy Ultra owners! Who knows, I may swing buy Best Buy and just get it over with. lol

I was on the fence and ordered (and canceled) online twice after checking out the AWU at an Apple Store. Finally, I saw them in stock locally and went and got one with the black / gray trail loop. In the end the size fits very well and I enjoy the upgrade (from a S6) very much. A keeper!
not what I needed to hear... I am still much more on the fence than I thought....but, Congrats and happy for you !

I love mine. I wouldn’t return it. The updates are generally lack luster ever since the 5. I have a space black titanium 5 series. I bought a 7 Hermes only because I wanted space black steel and hated the titanium. I love the Hermes faces. So I’ll keep it, and I’ll keep the space black titanium because it’s not made anymore. I may give it away.

I’m keeping the ultra because it’s the first Apple Watch I’ve actually liked. The only other is the 7 because it’s a Hermes. I like unique things. The 7 has the watch faces, and the Ultra is its size and screen. I really like the watch. I can’t believe how much I actually like it I wear it more than the Hermes which is shocking.

These are only rumors, and every year there are rumors. I try not to get caught up in always waiting for the next best thing. Next year even with a new chip or a new processor will it change how you use your watch? There’s only so much processing power you need on a watch.

Also if they make the series 9 look like the ultra what difference does it make if you don’t mind the size of the ultra? It will be a year wait for a processor that doesn’t make much difference still has less battery life and no more additional health features.

I must admit to be confused why this thread exists. I feel like it’s to make people feel good about their return decision.

It seems like the main reasons people return the watch is because of the size or because they have two watches and feel like they should only have one, and the other one won’t get much use.

I hope people realize that many people have more than just one watch. If you can’t afford it without selling a watch you like then that’s understandable, but it’s not like having two of anything is an actual problem. People do it all the time with other things in their life.

The ultra and the series 8,7,6,5 are different watches. Yes they have the same software just like every watch generally has a dial and 2or 3 hands that go around in a circle, but as with most things the difference is in the finer details. The ultra is brighter, the ultra has a flat screen, the ultra has a bigger body, the ultra has an action button, the ultra has a bigger dial, the ultra has louder speakers, and the ultra has a bigger battery.

The ultra is a different watch meant for a different purpose and has a different feel to it. it’s okay to have two watches. Many people have more than one watch and guess what, all those watches do is tell time.

No different than the threads people start in order to feel good about their purchase. People like validation for both. I find this thread less odd than the ones claiming that they bought the ultra to attract intimate partners or to appear super butch

Some people benefit from knowing they’re not the only one returning, keeping, on the fence, waiting, or whatever, regarding a new release.

I’m guessing others might just want to put it in writing so they will follow through with their decision and move on.

When I was unexpectedly on the fence about keeping my ultra, I found that writing it up where others would read it forced me to be as honest with myself as possible.

I ended up returning the Ultra today and am keeping my Series 7 Hermes 45mm. I liked the Ultra, but did not love it enough over my Series 7 to make it a worthwhile upgrade. I could have gone either way, but AW lose their value so much compared to their other products.

Hoping next year the Series 9 incorporates some of the Ultra features, like the flatter look, but keeping in thin like regular AW’s, brighter, etc..

My ultra was delivered earlier today but I’m just now getting around to setting it up. Initial impressions are that it feels lighter than my SS 45 MM but that could be the placebo effect. It feels a bit like I’ve strapped an iPhone to my wrist but I’m willing to wait few days to get used it before I decide to return it. Beautiful watch but I’m just not sure it’s for me.

What you said is true and, since it’s a personal decision, it’s what YOU think that matters! With that said, I just simply love the look and feel of my gold stainless Series 7 more and am not going to waste amidst $700 on a new watch that pretty much performs the same (there’s an opportunity that I could use that extra money towards my business, as a matter of fact, which is WAY more worth it)! So, I’m confident in that decision and will be returning my Ultra in a few days once I finish using it for my review/social media post ideas for my business.
