I understand the purpose of the international orange but I hate the color orange…had it been the same color as the body of the watch or even black, I’d have gone for it. But until they do something other than that hideous orange, I’ll keep to the regular Apple Watches.
There's a purpose? I thought it was just simply a design choice by Apple.

I don’t plan on returning my Ultra, but it very well may be the last Apple product I ever buy. I’m sick of their obnoxious, blatant cash grab, of not including the stupid charging brick. Sure, I’ve got dozens of the old USB-A bricks kicking around. However, when my shiny new $800 watch arrived, I had no way to charge it. I still love the watch, but can’t get the bad taste of Apple out of my mouth.

I’ve had USB-C for at least 18 months and consider myself a late adopter. Technology changes. We can’t print via RS232 or Parallel either. I’m not saying the system is perfect but it’s been many years now since the launch of USB-C.

I tried the Ultra for almost 2 months. I liked some of the additional features it has over the S7/S8, but I found it uncomfortable due to the weight and the fact that the weight seems to ride kinda high off the wrist. I kept having to adjust bands precisely to be comfortable and even then I'd feel fatigue. I know many folks don't have these issues, but I am one of the folks that did.

Fortunately, I have a GrSS S7 that I like. I can revisit things when the S9 and Ultra 2 are out. 😃

I’ve never heard of wrist fatigue from a watch. I guess too tight is an obvious cause of course and I’ve been guilty of that I’d bet. I do try not to keep it too tight but when I exercise I do tighten it. It’s easy to cross that line and compress a nerve.

Being someone who hated the idea of it when it launched, now that I traded my s7 for it, no way I can go back, the watch is better in every way and it’s actually the most bang for the buck Apple Watch period.
I also had the exact same initial thought but now it’s like: Everything you like and love about your Apple Watch, just more or better 🙌🏼

Is the haptic engine and feedback the same strength as with the series 8?
Ultra haptic feedback feels stronger to much stronger. Was very noticeable in the mediation app to the point I had to turn it off.

With regard to others who say the screen real estate on the Ultra is the same as the S7/S8, I'm pretty surprised by this. I find the Ultra noticeably bigger, especially when typing or swiping text. It's not night and day but it is noticeable. I found typing or swiping on the S8 almost impossible and the Ultra is very doable.

I originally got a S8, which I ordered online and was my first Apple Watch, and returned it for the Ultra about 10 days later.

Walked into the store to look at the Ultra, put it on and immediately said Ill take it. Service rep swapped them out pretty seamlessly. I wasn't planning on doing right then and there so I didn't bring the box or charger with me. Apple didn't care and I got to keep the extra fast charger. BONUS!!!!!

I appreciate the reply. I couldn't remember if I had asked that question before when the Ultra was first released. Stronger haptic would be welcomed.

I was in the Apple Store a week ago and tried on the Ultra. And to my surprise, it seemed to fit well. I didn't think it was much bigger than my series 8. I am waiting to see if a new Ultra gets released in September. If so, I think I will give it a go.

You're welcome.

I was surprised too. I put a slim case on my S8 and realized it made it bigger than the Ultra. I do have to wear it a bit tighter when running or working out though. The increased weight does tend to make it more around a bit more with arm movements and lose my heart rate. Not a big deal once I figured that out.

Haven't been over here since my AW8 and Ultra were delivered opening day. I use the Ultra 90% of the time, and on long runs I'm amazed how its GPS follows my path, and my running bud's Garmins or whatevs jump around the streets. Battery life is great, screen is great, underwater and temp is cool, and it looks amazing. The real estate on the screen, although not tremendously bigger, adds to the coolness. The AW8 is nice, sleek, lighter, but not a lot diff from my AW0=>AW7, just newer and not as beat up. In September will we get AW Ultra Pro Max?

Ultra haptic feedback feels stronger to much stronger.

I noticed too! When using Nomads titanium band, the haptic made the Band resonate at certain angles, making the vibration (more) audible. Not as audible with the original Apple Link Bracelet.

I am same as you. I had (still have) a Hermes SS7 and saw no need/use for ultra.

I am now one day in with the Ultra (still early I know) and I love it. Wondering when I will have time to wear the Hermes and nice bands, but don’t care really as it is a great watch.

Personally I’d say the Aluminium sports model is the best bang for the buck at half the price. Each to their own though.

I must admit I love mine. Been 4 days, only charged it in earnest once. Feeling kinda guilty that my S7 Hermes is sitting on the charger with a nice Hermes Jumping band doing nothing.

May dress up tomorrow (lol I WFH full time) just so i can wear it :)

Depending on what you seek in the watch, I agree! You all the functionality and sensors for half the price.

You do not get all the functionality and sensors of the Ultra.

The dual GPS is supposed to be better in the Ultra but in my experience its no better than the GPS sensor in my iPhone 11. That was a bid disappointing to me.

It constantly shows me running though building and mirrors the path my iPhone 11 would take when I used my iPhone GPS to run with.

Well I‘ve read many user reports claiming it is indeed better than the GPS in all other Apple Watches. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am happy for those other users and I'm sure its environment and terrain dependant but for me the Ultra is the same as a 3 plus year old phone and the S8 watch I had for 2 weeks.

This specific path is along a boardwalk where its open towards the ocean on one side and semi tall buildings along the other. If I run on the beach its very accurate to within a few feet. It even shows me navigating around the jetties.

However, when Im on the boardwalk and my wrist faces the buildings the accuracy is off by as much as 80 feet, having me run through buildings and open areas that are way off the path I am actually on.

Maybe I should contact Apple and see if they want to use my data as a way to tweak the algorithm to fix it.

I've gone back and forth too many times. Probably bought and returned 4 AWUs and one Series 8. I finally decided to stick with Garmin. Just can't beat 2+ weeks on a single charge.

This is totally just my opinion, but the AWU is a bit too chunky. Not too heavy, but chunky. My Epix 2 is roughly the same weight, and heavier when I wear it with the titanium band, but it doesn't bug me as much as the Ultra did. I don't accidentally press buttons. It doesn't feel like a solid chunk on my wrist. I think maybe the design of the watch just suits me better...it's got a larger "footprint" but is very similar in weight. I also struggled to make the Ultra sit comfortably on my wrist. It would cause dull throbbing in my arm...I think something about where it sat hit some nerve in my arm that older watches somehow didn't. Or I am just insane. Either way, I'm at peace with my decision to go Garmin haha.
