Are you returning your Xs/Xs Max for the Xr?

I returned the XS Max and kept my 8 Plus (and 6 Plus, which has the best phone).

Totally non-plussed by the new phones. Big yawn.

You’re wrong.

It’s not mature enough or they would of figured out issues like IR and PWM.
No, I’m not. Image retention is not an issue with everyday use. Do you have any evidence of this phantom issue or are you just spouting off nonsense? I have an OLED iPhone, do you?

PWM isn’t an issue either unless you’re in the small minority affected.

We'll wait for your next thread " Returned my iPhone Xr cause display is inferior". See you soon.
You need to watch the highly in depth video 4 posts above yours.

I’ll never understand the need to come on these threads and sling total uneducated crap like you just did.

Mashable, for example, called the iPhone XR the "Goldilocks of iPhones" with its large screen size, affordable price tag, "fantastic" cameras, and future-proof power in the form of the A12 Bionic chip.

Daring Fireball said that the iPhone XR is the best Apple's ever made "dollar for dollar," while TechCrunch compared the device to "a piece of nicely crafted jewelry" with a "depth and sparkle" unmatched by other iPhones.

CNN praised the impressive Portrait Mode shots the camera is able to capture, The Verge lauded the work Apple did to make the rounded corners of the LCD match the corners of the device, and Digital Trends called the iPhone XR "the iPhone to buy."

You have no idea what you are talking about. Neither have you read this thread very well. Clearly...
Post evidence of IR problems during normal use on an iPhone X or give it a rest.

The Verge praises the screen as “fine...it’s fine” and added: “That’s not to say it matches the quality of previous iPhone LCDs. The iPhone XR LCD definitely shifts a little pink and drops brightness quickly when you look at it off-axis, which often leads to a bit of a shimmery effect when you move the phone around. I noticed that shimmer right away, but I had to point it out to other people for them to see it. (It’s one of those things you might not notice at first, but you can’t un-see it.) Apple told me the XR display should match previous iPhone LCDs in terms of performance, but side by side with an iPhone 8 Plus, the off-axis shifts are definitely more pronounced.”

More from The Verge: “But it’s simply not as good as Apple’s OLEDs. It doesn’t have the deep black levels or infinite contrast of the iPhone XS, it doesn’t support HDR or Dolby Vision video playback, and, in general, you can always see the border between the bezel and the edge of the display, even with a dark background. Even with Apple’s True Tone color calibration turned on, it’s always a little warmer than my XS. And there’s that off-axis color shift and shimmer.”

I have seen the iPhone XR review unit at the Dutch Tweakers.net headquarters.
I currently own a XS, but I can definitely confirm that the XR has a decent display. It looks very similar to the iPhone 7, but the colors are a more oversaturated (which is a good thing).

Very much looking forward to receiving the two I ordered! Although I haven’t seen one in person yet I am confident I’ll love it, as will my wife.

You mean to say X XS users will enjoy their phone more because they have an OLED screen? How so?

There's a crispness to the OLED display iPhones that provides a noticeably nicer experience when viewing the screen (except for the few that suffer from PWM sickness). Always noticed this whenever I saw the X in use by someone in the elevator or standing next to me for the past year before I had an OLED display myself. The OLED screen is total eye candy to look at.

Calling the technology immature by the OP is total nonsense logic - OLED and LCD are different display technologies and while each may have their drawbacks, the OLED display will always provide a superior viewing experience (ie. its primary function).

Once again, this is nothing more than your opinion. It is not FACT, sorry. I have owned every single iPhone since day one and returned the Xs Max in lieu of going back to my iPhone 8 and waiting for the Xr. OLED displays are NOT that much better than an iPhone LCD, if any at all... (The blue shift is a joke btw) I respect that it is "eye candy" for you, but you are just one person. We all have different things that we like/dislike for many different reasons. That is the beauty of being a human being. The problem is you come here speaking as though your opinion is somehow gospel. I am sorry but it is not. There are many reason to pick LCD over OLED, a few of which have been listed in this thread and even mentioned in some reviews. OLED is NOT "superior". Period! Thanks for your contribution though. ;)

I'm in Australia and received two iPhone XR RED. I haven't had a chance to open them as yet, but I'll post pictures compared to the XS Max if anyone is interested.
AWESOME! Can't wait to hear your thoughts and see your pics!!

Ok, I have taken them straight from the box and not setup, just taken some REALLY QUICK pictures to compare to the Xs Max. Both still have the clear wrap on them.

The XR does not have a warm screen - it just appears that way in the images (True Tone, off, auto brightness off). The iPhone Xs Max is brighter, but I would say that the XR has a cooler screen. I have two XR, one made in the Zhengzhou (F1) factory (128GB, week 40) and one in the Shenzhen (G0) factory (64GB, week 38). The Zhengzhou model is slightly warmer, but has sharper text. The Shenzhen one has better viewing angles at the extreme, so I will keep the 64GB model, even though the 128GB model is better value ($70 AUD more in Australia). The iPhone Xs Max is also out of the Shenzhen factory (G6).

The build quality on both is great. Not a fan of the silver screws where the lightning port is. The Xs Max feels more 'premium' with the polished edges (for lack of a better word) and you can feel the difference between the two when holding in your hand. I really like the way the XR feels in my hand. Reminds me of the X.

I am in Australia and have three Telstra SIM cards in the phones and where the Xs Max will switch to 3G, neither of the XR do (I am in a poor signal area). Both of the XR stay connected to 4G. All three phones were just unboxed so I haven't made any calls with them as yet.

EDIT: I am sensitive to PWM on the Xs Max (did not suffer this with my X), yet there are no issues on with my XR. I have noticed the lettering is not as smooth on the fonts between the XR and the Xs Max (Xs Max is smoother).

I’m on my third XS Max. The first one was returned for connectivity issues. The second one died. The third one is working fine for the week I’ve owned it. I ordered a XR and will pick it up tomorrow. I want to keep the XS Max but, worry it will become troublesome. I have 5 days of my 14 day return window to decide if I keep the XR or Max. If during that time XR owners report good connectivity I will keep the XR.

I've just opened them up now. I'll edit this post with some pictures soon.

Oh, the screen is really, really good as well. Much better than the 7 Plus.
My main reason for going with the XR is sensitivity to PWM.
Looking forward to your photos! Glad to hear you like the screen better than the 7+.

Better than the 1080p iPhone 7 plus?
That’s what she said.

Yes. There is a definite difference. The XR is much sharper, clearer, and colour accurate. I don't know what Apple has done, but they did a really good job with the screen - and I am a 'screen snob' (feel free to check my post history). I don't think that it is worth the $570 AUD price difference between the XR 64GB and Xs Max 64GB (pricing in Australian dollars) for most people.

I have two XR, one made in China (128GB, week 40) and one in the USA (64GB, week 38). The China model is slightly warmer, but has sharper text. Since when does Apple make iPhones in USA? Haha

Sorry, don’t buy that XR has sharper screen than 7+. Maybe you think that due to higher contrast on the XR. Not saying XR is not sharp, just not as 7+.

You’re wrong.

You keep saying that. So, did you actually encounter IR during regular use? If so, what were you doing to get it to appear?

I’ve been using my X for a year now. I often stare at static content, while examining illustrations on Artstation, reading emails or a website. I game, watch video clips, etc. Not once did I notice IR.

Yeah, they would know everything. There would be headlines here in US if Apple manufactured iPhones in US.
You are right. I just looked up on a chart and in another thread and G0 is a new factory in Shenzhen. I'll update my post.

I hope your right cause I saw horrible IR on a Samsung S9 at the AT&T store. It made me worry a little.
