Are you returning your Xs/Xs Max for the Xr?

And I had 2 Maxes. Returned them and got an X. I live in the middle of NH and could not deal with the lack of consistency with cellular connectivity. So far the X is amazingly better.
So as suspected Apple still has not addressed the wonky connectivity with the new Xs’s. SMH. I’m shocked there isn’t more noise about it. My Xs Max was having weird connectivity issues too.

Returned my iPhone Xs 64gb. The new features/design bump is too minal from last year iPhones so to justify to pay £999 (more than a $1,000). As the iPhone Xr offers almost everything as the Xs/Xs Max with a significant cheaper price (+ better battery life which is a main point for me + 128gb option as 64gb was quite tight and 256gb too massive)... It looks to be a no-brainier.

I will have 14 days to confirm this but prefer to save my money for next iPhone generation which will hopefully offer a new design (notchless??), much better camera, etc.. indeed this is just my view.

Everyone seems to think that the XR is the phone for those that can’t afford the XS. For me, affordability isn’t a problem, but the price for a 256gb XS is £1,149. That is just mental. 64gb isn’t enough so the 256gb is the viable option. Just, no.

The 128gb XR comes in at £799 - that’s £350 less. For that, you lose zoom functionality, a true bookah camera effect and a OLED screen. Big whoop di do, basil. The screen resolution issue is a complete red herring - you have to be within about 4 foot of a 50” tv to see the difference between 1080p and 4K and the same thing applies here; unless your shoving your eye to it or deliberately zooming to an absurd degree for any practical purpose, there is a nominal difference. Yes blacks and deeper on the oled but who the hell has ever said “hmm the blacks just aren’t deep enough on my phone”. I’ll save that for, ya know, a TV.

The big difference with the screen is the HDR - that does indeed make a difference so the XR will always look slightly worse. But I’ll take the purportedly better battery any day of the week.

So after owning a Xs Max I have decided that I am going to return it and wait for the Xr.

The reasons why you might ask...

I can think of 6 great reasons.

1. PWM sensitivity
2. Blue shift
3. Image persistence/retention
4. Battery efficiency
5. Reception issues
6. Saving $

Just wondering who else is following suit?

Don’t know about the rest, but 3. is a non issue.

It definitely won’t be notchless.

Rather I keep or return my new XS Max I won't know until this Friday, but I have a very short window to decide. I will have to put that XR through the paces very quickly!

#3 IS an issue, and was an issue for me... Have a good evening.

Then you got what’s technically known in the industry as “a dud” :)

Never saw even a hint of IR on any of our Xs in the studio. Of course, that’s in regular use, not using test patterns and stuff.

Where did you see IR? In what situation?

Screen burn in hasn’t been an issue on Samsung OLED screens for a good few years now.

As longs as I can read my emails, websites, social media and other apps these high end display features are totally irrelevant to me on a phone. I don’t watch movies or serious photos on a smartphone. These things are nice to have with my home cinema Beamer or at least with my 65“ TV. With Apple devices the order of usefulness for these things are the iMac, MBP and than the iPad. These devices might need an OLED display, HDR and so on if the week points if this display technology are fixed (e.g. small viewing angle).

It's like downgrade from a premium phone to budget phone LMAO......

I’m not sure why people say this, because it’s entirely untrue. There is _nothing_ remotely budget about the XR being its a $750 iPhone. That’s more expensive than other smart phones start at from other competitors, especially that it’s offering the same processor A12 as the XS, Face ID, wireless charging and similar form factor with a full display.

Next week hopefully I’ll make it to an Apple store, the day after it’s event interestingly, to look at the XR and it’s colours, I’ll also be confirming it has the zoomed screen feature, hopefully. If it does and I’m happy with it I will be ordering later that day from John Lewis as they still have my credit from my returned iPhone 8.

I’m thinking black or white or red at the moment. But then the yellow might take me?

I’ll be going 128GB to ensure I won’t run out of space. I’ll also have to choose a case hmm..

Screen retention is still an issue, but you're right that burn in isn't. The retention bothers some people I suppose. I got used to it, but never liked it on the S series Samsung phones.

Its because they spent 1000+ dollars...on a phone.

I couldn't do without 3D touch for one; secondly I feel that the iPhone XR's relatively low resolution for a 2018 phone is unacceptable.

I want to be able to watch full HD movies on a phone that expensive.

Even at £750 its unacceptable.

You'd be better off with an iPhone 8 plus then. After the black pillars are added to compensate for the notch, videos display natively larger on the plus.

You people do realize that Apple is phasing out 3D Touch in lieu of what the Xr comes with right? There’s articles all over about it. So in a sense the Xr is even a step ahead of the Xs.

How would that work with no 3D touch and the Apple Watch? I doubt it's going anywhere soon.

They might be doing that. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.
