Are you returning your Xs/Xs Max for the Xr?

Honestly, I work all day on my phone. I rarely watch videos or play games. People need to realize this isn’t going to be a bad screen. It’s still technically over 720p and the ones that have actually picked up and seen the screen in person have for the most part said it’s a very nice screen. To me having at least 3 hours of extra juice to get me through the day without charging is much more important than having a slightly better screeen in the OLEDs. Also, the iPhone 8 was a phone that was highly praised for its nice screen, the same screen we’ll be getting on the iPhone XR one year removed. I’ll still be within my return period on one of my phones and if the reviews check out I will be looking to purchase an XR for myself and saving about $450.

What's it matter I will just have a heavy duty case on it !phones are for talking on and not for picking up chicks and impressing your friends

I returned my XS Max today and will preorder the XR later this week. The XS Max was just too big for me, and I’m worried that I will have the same problem with the XR. If the XR is too big, I’m going to wait until Black Friday and see if there’s any good deals on the iPhone 8. So far, leaked Black Friday ads have the iPhone 8 at $200 off. That would make the 256gb version $550, and the only feature I really care about is wireless charging. I’m hoping the XR works out because Face ID was awesome on the XS Max for the short time I had it.

I was 99% on the XS but think I will be giving the XR a chance. I have held off due to the RF issues (100 page thread now). I have been to the Apple Store at least 3 times and played with the XS and XSM for probably 2 hours now.

The XSM is gloriously (a word?) big... gratuitous big.. bigly. :)

The XS feels perfect in-hand and trailers/movies were ‘big enough’ considering it’s a phone. I have an IPP for movies/video.

I might get slammed for this but I have taken a TON of images with the XS, XSM and my 8+ in the store and under Apple Store lighting the 8 holds up VERY well. I am specifically referring to the screen. Yes, the camera on the XS/XSM is better. But when I review images taken, intentionally trying to blow out backgrounds, the image on the screen of the 8+ looks as good to me as the XSM. No, I am not analyzing blacks. I am simply taking pictures at all angles and reviewing them. I can sew where highlights are managed much better on the XSM. However, colors and overall image on the SCREEN looks great on the 8+.

I think the XR could be a sleeper.

I think the Xr is best for people that want most of the tech of the X (Face ID, Camera, etc.) without the massive price hike. Of course every low end Apple device is made to sell the higher end Apple device. But it will still do iPhone things....

Who here fears that the Xr is gonna release with some sort of “gate” issue like the rest of Apple products lately? Fingers crossed that it’s totally without issue and smooth.

I am fine with the price of the XS/XSM. What tempts me about the XR is the battery life and size. Goldilocks. .. juuuust right. Maybe.

I don’t care about 3D Touch, and I am not blown away by OLED. I have the 8+ and my wife has the X and while the OLED is nice, it doesn’t scream leave LCD. If my blacks are a tad muted.. I will be OK.

I also like the idea of the single-lens camera. Since the 7+ Apple has tweaked the ‘math’ that is used between the two lenses and I zoom in less than 5% of my shots.

I do think the XR will appeal to those looking for a cheaper option.. but it isn’t cheap by any measure.

I returned my iPhone XS Max due to issues with reception and sensitivity to PWM (did't have it with my iPhone X). I've ordered the product red 128GB XR and hope that it doesn't have the same problem with reception.

I too am hoping for a seamless Xr release. Apple is long overdue to release a product that doesn’t have issues right out of the “gate”. Pun intended.

After some ‘testing’ with my wife’s X this morning my leeway regarding the screen of the XR has grown. The color shift on the X is no joke. I’ve only held the X to look at text or watched videos on it but today I was looking for an email to our local flag football league and used the X in-hand as well as on a table. The colors were significantly different. That’s really annoying. I previously discounted the color-shift comments as OCD but it was distracting. It made me notice it more as the angle in-hand changed.

I experienced the "blue shift" pretty significantly on the Xs Max I returned as well.

I was pretty shocked TBH. It isn’t slight. I am still open to the XS/XSM but XR could be just right. I would think the color shift would be more noticeable on the XSM.

Yes, the only distinction that matters is price basically. I understand why people will probably buy the XR in record numbers. However if you asked any one of them if the price was the same it's another story. sorry that's my captain obvious moment.

My post was made in jest. Sorry if you thought otherwise.
Nope if you were to ask me I would say that the fact that its a tad smaller so as to fit in pocket better would still make me choose it. I just don't like a giant phone to carry around personally. Add to the fact that since the Xs and Xs Max seem to be having some issues with the new 4x4 mimo antenna design and cellular/wifi issues that the XR isn't gonna have would also be a great reason. But certainly the price point is a huge reason too.

Changed my vote to yes, mostly because of the OLED panel lottery. Been through four XSes, and every one of them either had chips in the steel frame (gold color), glue between the screen and rubber band, or both pink and/or blue shift at the slightest off axis angle. Also the white balance on all of them have been way off even when viewed at a perfect angle. Black and white images on the XS look way too warm when compared to my 6500K calibrated iMac 27 5K. So the XS is useless even for simple image editing (I often do culling and simple edits of raw files in LR Mobile on the road). Hoping the LCD of the XR is better for color accuracy, which I find much more important than ppi (which isn't even directly comparable because of different display technologies). Will really miss 3d touch though. Yes I'm picky, bur for the price of 1600USD for the 256gb model here in my country, I feel entitled to expect a chip free phone with a color accurate panel. Guess OLED just isn't for me.

This isn’t a small deal for me. I am far from a pro but I do a lot of photography and a good bit of quick editing with my 8+ and IPP. If what I see on the screen of the XS/XSM isn’t accurate that doubles my work on casual edits or means I have to wait to get to iMac or iPad.

Awesome. Good choice and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It doesn’t necessarily count as “returning”, but I’m selling my X for the XR. Already preordered in fact. :D
What color did you go with?

Apple's QC is a bit disheartening lately. I hope this isn't the case with the Xr. I think you made the right choice overall though. ;)
