WiFi issues with iPhones and other Apple products is nothing new... with third party WiFi routers. That's exactly why I switched to an all Apple Airport network in my house years ago. All the issues pretty much disappeared when I adopted Airport.Sorry to tell you this but I have no issues with WiFi on my Max. Maybe cause I’m using AirPort and mine doesn’t seem to suffer from LTE or charging issues. Maybe mine is the outlier looking at all these threads, but I doubt it.
Then I wonder what accounts for the difference. A couple of years ago one of my Samsung displays gave me some eye strain, but not the same kind of problems I’ve had recently. Then again, my iPhone X gave me different symptoms and over a different time frame than I had this time with the Max, which is why at first I didn’t think I’d be unable to keep the Max.The iPhone OLEDs use the exact same 240 Hz PWM frequency as the Samsung S9 Plus.
I guess that shouldn't come as a huge surprise, given that are all made by Samsung. (LG models will come soon.)
Nah, I’m not gonna play that game with Apple. I’ve never had one issue with my home setup and connectivity until the Xs Max. And I’ve owned every iPhone since day one...WiFi issues with iPhones and other Apple products is nothing new... with third party WiFi routers. Now that Apple no longer makes Airports, I would strongly lean toward buying other WiFi systems that Apple sells, like the Linksys mesh system.
I saw something odd yesterday on my last bit of time with my Max. I was reading on the Max and I tilted my hand down and saw I dropped a bar on the WiFi indicator. I found it would fluctuate as I turned my phone up and down on an angle. But then it would stop for a bit then I was able to do it again. I never saw any of my phones or iPads do that before. Oh I’ve seen the indicator fluctuate before but not due to me pointing them up and down.Nah, I’m not gonna play that game with Apple. I’ve read the lg v30 is the best OLED display in terms of pwm. I’m going to be buying one and I’ll follow up in the eye strain thread on here. It also has an incredible hifi dac for anyone who has some decent wired headphones. Then I wonder what accounts for the difference. However, as I’ve posted on a different thread, something about the last couple of days with my Max has sensitized my eyes to all flicker and I had trouble with grocery store lighting yesterday evening and yes, could not stand to look at my S9+ display either.
Overall the display of three of my current Samsungs and my husband’s Huawei don’t usually seem to cause me any issues. But my Pixel 2 is as problematic as my Max, which is why I couldn’t keep it as a daily driver or secondary phone for as long as I would have liked. That display is also made by Samsung.
I wish more was known about what actually triggers pwm problems because I love a nice OLED display and would really love to use any phone without a care.

Hi Aneres11, do you no longer have your P20?All I will say about the V30 is be careful of burn in.
A few short weeks after it was released I went and checked one out in my local CarPhoneWarehouse and the screen had the worst burn in I had ever seen in a phone (well, it's the only burn in I've ever witnessed tbh).
Granted, these display mods scroll through the same set of images all day every day, which a normal users phone wouldn't, but the OLED in the V30 was renowned for burn in, so just be sure to check it out first.

On topic though, I am soooo excited for the release of the XR.
I have the XS Max currently, and I like the phone but now I've installed a glass screen protector and bought a case for it, it feels so heavy. Too heavy now.
The size isn't too much of an issue for me, but the smaller XR will definitely be welcome. I also like that the XR is thicker. Weird as it sounds I think it will help with feel in the hand.
Still torn over what colour. I do think I will end up with yellow as I think it looks so damn amazing, but the white looks clean and I could be tempted that way. I'm just glad I don't want red, as that's the one that I think will be tricky to get hold of. Red aint my bag.
Roll on reviews (hopefully before pre-order day but I doubt it) to keep us tided over until it's out!
Hi Aneres11, do you no longer have your P20?
I’m liking yellow, coral and blue. Of course I like all the colors but I haven’t had a yellow or coral phone before so I’m most closely looking at those.
When I put a glass protector on my iPhone X last year it felt heavy. Then I put an OtterBox on it and it felt like a brick! This time around I put a much lighter case on my Max. I’m hoping the XR will feel lighter to me after being used to carrying the Max and a Plus.
Yes you can take it back to the Apple Store. Sometimes they even let you keep the accessories but it depends on the employee.I am still so torn... I really like my Xs and with the stuff I bought a change to the act wouldn’t even safe much money...
But today after reading a bit my eyes felt tired and I switched to my iPad Pro and went on without problems... really a tough call... especially cause I love the gold finish and don’t really like any of the Xr’s colors...
If I am going to return it, I just put my phone with the charger, cable and EarPods in the box and just bring it to the store right? Nothing to do online for it?( I did an in-store pickup and the help pages don’t really help me much.. and luckily I never had to return any apple gear so far...)
I'm curious, do you notice the crisper text of the XS over the 6s? I definitely notice the XS/Max and 7 Plus' clarity improvement over my wife's 6s. The 6s is pretty decent, but the XS and 7 Plus are still better for text clarity.I’ve owned my XS for less than a week. It’s a serious upgrade to my aging 6s plus but, I’m returning tomorrow and going to preorder the XR when available. The mult color selections, the longer battery life and the slightly larger screen are the biggest reasons.
Usually this sorts this out in a couple of months. What's probably going to happen now is most of them will create an XS compatible model that fits both the X and XS.Something that really bothers me about the XS is case manufacturers aren’t designing specific cases for this phone but rather claiming compatibility between the X and XS and it’s hit and miss.
You're gonna have to change your forum name...Holla. Black Xr coming my way let's go
My Xs also arrived with a scratch on the screen. From what I’ve read it’s pretty common. It’s not the type of scratch that’s glaring unless your putting a screen protector on it under direct lighting. The screens are less prone to cracking/breaking but are more prone to fine scratches. My Xs Max arrived with a large scratch on the screen today. And it made me question why I should pay £1100 for a phone. So I'll try the XR and if Apple's QA is still poor I'll stick with my 8+.
I also have a £399 Mate 10 Pro. Perfect out of the box, and speedy with great battery life. At nearly a third of the cost.
Hmmmm.
I would bet my house that you had every intention of returning the XS. You wanted the XR all along but wanted a new phone while you waited.
Just a guess.
I soak in all the buyer remorse threads every year.
LCD is totally fine. The main disappointment with the XR screen is not that it is LCD. The main disappointment with the screen is the pixel density.Really the major thing that I don’t find attractive about the XR, is the LCD display, I gather it’s 828P and it will suffice for the majority of iPhone consumers who will see the new form factor, Face ID, wireless charging, new color, etc. But as a heavy tech enthusiast, LCD just seems dated to me and OLED as much as I do appreciate it, it does have its differentials that I really appreciate. But what I really look forward to is Micro- LED, which hopefully we will see in the next 2/3 years.
MicroLED is effectively vapourware for the foreseeable future. Won’t be on any 2020 iPhones. 2021 I don’t know but I wouldn’t count on it.
It’s a fair statement, according to some analysts.I don’t think ‘vaporware’ is fair a statement. We Just don’t have a ‘technical timeline’ yet, which is natural for unreleased tech. However, You can be almost guaranteed Micro Led is in testing phase via rumors, I don’t predict the iPhone to be the ‘first’ product to see this, the Apple Watch is likely in more of a smaller batch display would see this first, followed by the iPhone. [Such as OLED was the first debut on the Apple Watch, followed by the iPhone]. Its certainly coming. The Major advantages being far less power draw, increased significant brightness over OLED, which will result in much longer battery life and Micro-LEDs require significant less investment than traditional TFT LCD display panels to reach economies of scale. [It Also depend on Apples suppliers that they would have aligned necessary for micro LED in addition.]
For the record, Apple acquired Luxeview back in 2014, which is a company that actually is directly involved with Micro-LED development.
