Are you returning your Xs/Xs Max for the Xr?

Surprised the crappy RF the X S Max gets isn't your main reason.

What has your reception been like? Did you report it to Apple? I am interested to hear what your personal experience has been.

I wasn’t aware that the Xr would be better until just a few moments ago.

You should add it to the list. XR is far superior.

When shall see how it fares once they are in hands.

So after owning a Xs Max I have decided that I am going to return it and wait for the Xr.

The reasons why you might ask...

I can think of 5 great reasons.

1. Image persistence/retention
2. Blue shift
3. PWM sensitivity
4. Battery efficiency
5. Saving $

Just wondering who else is following suit?

Just say you cant afford it...it would be easier and not warrant another thread like this.....

There's just too much against the XS right now, so many problems. I haven't even experienced any myself, but the threads just keep coming. Everything I read has to be true so I think I should save my money and maybe move to the XR.

My Xs Max arrived with a large scratch on the screen today. And it made me question why I should pay £1100 for a phone. So I'll try the XR and if Apple's QA is still poor I'll stick with my 8+.

I also have a £399 Mate 10 Pro. Perfect out of the box, and speedy with great battery life. At nearly a third of the cost.

Hmmmm.

How is this not tacky and elitist? Out with you.
You're telling me! Holy smokes!!! It's sad. Doesn't know anything about me, yet goes right for the throat attacking me. $ has nothing to do with my decision to return my Xs Max, it just happens to be an added bonus.

That much isn’t so clear, at least as far as I’ve read. I was under the assumption that the worse the signal is, the harder devices have to work to establish/maintain a signal, leading to greater radiated output. I actually do typically care much more than the average person about radiation exposure but as things stand now I just want my shiny new device to be able to make calls without dropping them.
Me, too. Thanks for helping me try and figure this all out.

I’m sure the Xr will be an amazing phone, can’t really compare it to the Xs Max but it’s also hundreds less.
I mean, it's not really that hard to compare and contrast the two. Both are running on the A12 SoC, both use the same on-screen content format…yes, the XS Max features a slightly higher-capacity battery (with shorter battery life), a larger and far more pixel-dense OLED display (with low-frequency pulse-width modulation), a second rear camera lens with optical zoom, an extra gigabyte of RAM, and a four-antenna array (with, as far as we know, worse cellular reception), a stainless steel (rather than aluminum) frame construction…as well as a significantly higher asking price.

There are indeed trade-offs and differences to be noted between these devices but they fundamentally are not quite that different.

Are you referring to more problems more with the iPhone XS or XS Max? Curious what problems are you alluding to? My 6.5 Max has not arrived yet.

Both have pluse-width-modulating displays as well as the same design flaw in the antenna array (which is apparently even worse in the Max)…so as far as I know both handsets are somewhat problematic.

I’m kidding. Not one issue with my Max. It’s been perfect. The endless threads listing issue after issue that they read on the internet wore me out.

I believe you. I purposely don’t click on the ‘What’s wrong with my iPhone XS Max threads’ or ‘Yellow displays’, etc. I use the phone for what it is and enjoy it, if there’s an issue, that what warranties are for.

Oh, and the same applies to the Apple Watch Series 4 if you visit that forum, you will see plenty of threads other saying the ‘Series 4 is doomed’ because of the “Quality control issues”, etc. Yet, my space black 44 mm is flawless.

Anything that is mass produced, is subject to defects. There are far more devices that are sold in the world that will never be returned versus the ratio that are defective, you just hear the worst cases on tech forums.

That’s fair and I agree. I usually will only go to such threads to give my input that I haven’t experienced any problems. I feel like some people on this site will take secondhand knowledge and turn it into a widespread issue. It just feels a bit disingenuous. Granted, that’s not everyone and there are definitely issues when you’re manufacturing hundreds of millions of devices. In regards to the Max, my screen has been perfect, my WiFi speeds jumped from 300 to 420 mbps, and my lte speeds doubled from 12 to about 24. I’ve been happy with everything.

Those are solid numbers. More importantly, as long as you’re happy with the phone, that’s all that matters. Not everybody else’s situation should be reflective of your own, and I certainly don’t go seek problems that many will do With threads on here, then they (Other members) are under the notion that their device _will or should_ experience the same issues as others. Its not a way to live, where tech makes others lose their sanity.

Very true. I’ve only had a camera dust issue with my iPhone 4, but have been pretty much problem free since the first iPhone. That’s why I’ll let people know that it’s not all bad.

Thrilled that you are so happy with your Max. Hopefully those of us getting Xrs we will back here on this thread sharing our joy as well.
