So the killer app is having your own personal movie theater yet it’s hard to wear for more than an hour?

Some people find it hard to wear past an hour. There is a thread here about folks having no problems wearing it for hours. The longest i have worn mine with no problem is 8 hours. I have never taken it off due to pain, only due to having to do something else. I have never worn it for less than 2 hours. And my case is not as unusual as some would have you believe.

Let’s just say the AVP form factor has a long way to go if someone like this is going to become a user..

(Please note her stylish Apple Watch however)

I must have missed the press release where she said she wouldn’t wear one. If there was no release, just how do you know what someone you more than likely dont know personally would do in private?!

I think people that are confident in themselves just won’t have the issues you infer.

As an investor, it's not good to blindly go "all in".

I dont understand your comment. Apple is far from being “all in” with their investment on the AVP. In fact, they have invested far less than what they did for a still non existent car. As an investor what are your thoughts on that? As an investor I like that they are not staying stagnant. I acknowledge not everything will succeed, but i do know the result of stop trying And not gambling.

It's all projection.

Ok sure ..

Jen Aniston is going to head out and about with an Apple Scuba Mask on and pinch at stuff in the wind while having brunch in Santa Monica

Sure..
Of course she will

Since there was no "press release" to indicate otherwise, anything is possible 👍

I really like it but I feel like it’s crushing my face no matter what band I use. I really don’t want to return it but wearing it is really uncomfortable for me.
Try out a different light seal. They have amazing impact to comfort.

Also, the band sizes impact a lot. I can wear one of my bands for one hour and another one for eight hours comfortably.

I am envious. At the time I was going to graduate school in Houston, and homebrew style meetings were not as enlightened. Some things never change.

SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) is a national research laboratory run by the Dept. of Energy, not far from Stanford University. They generously allowed the Homebrew Computer Club access to their auditorium where meetings were held once a month in the evenings, after work. That's where a lot of the personal computing industry got started.

A funny story... Back then people used to exchange computer programs on paper tape after the meetings. SLAC got wind of that and said it had to stop, apparently because it was a government laboratory, and violated some rule. So.... people then drove a mile or two away after the meetings, around 9pm, to a gas station parking lot and would exchange tapes from the trunks of their cars. Apparently the police were called by someone thinking drug deals were going down. And all it was just computer nerds exchanging paper tape programs! :)

I’m wondering if Dan has ever owned or used any other VR headsets. They all seem equally isolating and capable of showing video, and it’s hard to say something is the best without comparing it to others.

The sheer clarity of the Vision Pro (pixel density) has been reported as being superior to all other headsets. That's what I've seen, at least. Most people stating that the Quest is "good enough" is overlooking details like that.

„why we're hearing a lot of return stories.“. Interesting fact, any numbers?
We won’t see any hard numbers unless Apple shares them, which is unlikely to happen. But there are certainly a substantial number of return proclamations here in the forums, on Reddit, and on other social media. The polls I’ve seen turn out around 30-40% returning. Those aren’t representative of course, but I think it’s clear that there are significantly more returns than on previous new Apple product introductions.

What will be more interesting to see, in my opinion, is when production capacity will catch up with demand, which will be apparent by monitoring the delivery times in the online store.

Dan is entitled to his opinion but this is still a niche product with what will be well over a 50% return rate. No updates will make it worth $3500 for most consumers. It’ll be a great paper weight in the next 3-6 months.

You saved your bacon by saying "next 3-6 months". 🤣 I'm sure we're going to see something truly amazing at WWDC, and there's going to be a lot of people kicking themselves for returning theirs.

EDIT: I misread your comment. Were you actually suggesting that it will become "useless" after 3-6 months? Nope! That's why Apple went with the Pro model first. A powerful version out of the gate. This first device will only get better over the next 3 years.

I have experienced that too. Too many treat this stuff like it is like American Politics of late.
Someone actually accused me of trying to push a right-wing agenda, lol. Without going too far off-topic, I’m about as polar opposite as you could get from that statement.

We should be able to defend and criticize Apple without getting nasty.

Don’t be absurd. No one is talking about people wearing them out to brunch, besides you tubers desperate for attention. But plenty of people actually use them in private. Big difference you know. Me thinks you forget how many celebrities showed up with their overpriced gold Apple Watches version 0. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but i still find it strange you feel compelled to talk for Jennifer Aniston. We all know you wont be wearing one lol.

i still have five more days (I ordered around 6 a.m. PST, so the avp arrived on the 7th) to decide, but I had my mother-in-law try guest mode today. She has early Alzheimers, and I wanted to determine whether she could successfully navigate (a remote operator function would be amazing for this purpose) the UI. It was very clumsy for her at first, but with a bit of practice she had little trouble.

The spatial video of our dog- who she adores - is really arguing against returning the avp. She was delighted and dazzled by it.

We can record memories, and she can immerse herself in those experiences. That alone is stimulating (we had a long discussion about the technology after she was done watching Fritz the chihuahua being adorable in 3D) and representative of the activities research has demonstrated to be of some non-trivial benefit in slowing dementia. But it leaves me wondering whether the technology might have actual clinical value for her, and feeling I need to at least give it a try.

So returning the avp, even knowing it’s possible to swap it for less expensive alternatives that can largely reproduce the spatial effect, seems now more like just a remote possibility. And certainly the cost, previously measured in terms of an entertaining indulgence, has been reframed and rendered trivial.

So, looks as though I’m keeping it.

I would be interested in how the commentators here fall into these these categories -
1) Bought one
2) Bought one and immediately returned it
3) Got a demo at an Apple store
4) Just read about it
5) Never going to try it or buy it.

Me - #1
My bar was set pretty low - if it didn't make me nauseous, I would keep it.
I did not buy it just for what it does now - I also bought it to see where it can go.

Like I said sometime ago, Apple needs to add a camera at the bottom of the iPhone so you get true depth.
Hopefully the iPhone 16 dual camera template is just for the top part of the iPhone otherwise we have to wait an entire year beyond that.
