Hi everyone i just want to say i've been typing "rome total war mac" into google scrolling down almost a whole page to be directed to this forum and have been checking it every few days for a month and a half now reading all your stuff and getting the info. i played the pc version for YEARS and got a mac a year ago for school and what not. so this is great. My copy should be at my house from ferral in a few days =] i made this account just to express and exercise online camaraderie and be gay.

thanks ferral:D

Me again!

OK, I've fired it up and started a Scippi campaign. Everything looks great - the startup options are in a nice, mac-like options screen. The game itself runs fine.

Now off to Africa - for some reason those Carthaginians annoy me, I'll have to do something about that.

Also, the game can run in the background - I've got it minimized as I type this. That will be very convenient, particularly compared to the old Boot Camp method of running the PC version.

Syracuse is mine . . .

. . . and rightfully so. Long have the Scipii been denied our rightful place on the Roman stage. Defeating the Greeks was as child's play - descendants of Alexander? I don't think so - more like Alexander's playthings.

Now the Carthaginians beckon. I've built ports in Capua and Messana to get the tax revenue. I haven't built any army units these first few year, but now will slightly expand my army - but not too much! Keep an eye on those denarii.

Hello all,

I've also kept an eye on this thread for a while, and am glad the game is finally out. I played RTW a long time ago when it came out for PC and enjoyed it very much.
Now I own a cool new iMac (8 month old) and will gladly buy and play it again for hours I'm sure.

Got a question for the Ferral guys:
Do you have any idea when (if at all) will this fine addition to the growing Mac games be available for purchase in any of the big stores in the USA, for example BestBuy, Target, Walmart, etc...?

Or, will it only be available for purchase online, and from the Apple stores (which are scarce)..?

Thanks.

I do hope this thread survives and transforms into one where people post experiences or concerns about the game, and maybe even some screenshots.
I would also like to play multiplayer as soon as I remember my well-thought tactics and money-savvy tricks.
;)

Hey there PatrickCocoa, please don't insult the Macedonians (I am one) and Alexander III Macedonian, also known as The Great.

The Macedonians weren't, aren't and will never be Greek.
Philip II and his son Alexander who later became the Great crushed and CONQUERED the Greeks at the battle of Chaeronea in 338 B.C., before they turned their sight to the great Persian Empire.

Even in the game, as far as I remember, the Greek City-States are clearly marked differently (with a different symbol) from the Macedonians.

Call a Macedonian a Macedonian and look for a Demo

First off I'd like to sincerely thank the fine folks at Feral Interactive for reuniting me with one of the best strategy games ever made. The only regret I ever had about switching to Mac was the inability to play RTW anymore.

Second, Will there ever be a demo available for this title?

The Macedonians weren't, aren't and will never be Greek.
Finally, as a guy with several friends, who are citizens of formerly Yugoslav nations, never ever bring up the subject of of Macedon when there is a Greek, Serbian, Bulgarian or Albanian in the same room, it only leads too trouble.

That being said, why doesn't anyone ever get excited about the Thracians?:)

Everyone needs to come on line :)

had 7 awsome and crazy games with [RTW]Baccus against myself, Diomedes :D

mulitplayer is a bit confusing to understand however, you go through game ranger then you come to some sort of lobby which you go back to after the game has finished

uh oh

Now when i'm playing RTW on my Macbook

2.1 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB Ram
GMA X3100

my screen goes purple and green.
this isn't happening on the imac though

This hasn't happened before since playing it only since yesterday and this morning

Scipii are the best but my friends are saying brutii and julii are better my argument: Who fought in the punic wars and won when the other families just crapped their pants? Now they shut up :D

He's just as excited as everyone else, well who wouldn't be when playing rtw?

Living Vicariously

Have any of you ever watched the Prince of Macedon Vids on Youtube of RTW his online RTW battles?

He's got a pretty solid grasp of how to use the RTW units and win, but really I've just been using it to satisfy my RTW craving until a little airmail package from Britain arrives...

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES, PoM's vids are AWESOME!!!!!!

How do you run the game in a window rather than full screen?

I didn't see any window option, but you can command-tab while the game is running and it will minimize to the dock. You can then do whatever non-RTW activities are necessary to maintain your presence in the real world, then get back to the game.

While in the dock, RTW only took up about 4% of the CPU (I measured it two or three times just to see).

my screen goes purple and green.

That sounds like you have a damaged install in some way, if you contact support (or even me via PM with your email) I will get someone to look into it.

As usual the support report etc is best when emailing in, helps us look into your installation in more detail (and find out what is wrong).

Maybe it may become a bit of a rallying place for mac RTW players, or the place we push Feral to port Medieval II as well...

or push them to *try* and port napoleon total war once they can
(Napoleon=BEST COMMANDER EVER)

All suggestions and comments in these forums are taken into account, obviously neither me or anyone else from Feral ever comments if we want to port a game or not (to try and stop any rumour mongering either way).

So by all means please let us know what games you think would be good on the Mac but also don't expect any answers apart from "thanks for the suggestion it's been noted".

:)

I imagine most gamers will strongly support both those, even "Empire" as more users upgrade to Macs with improved graphics. After all, these are AAA titles (I imagine Napoleon will carry on the general level of quality) & it's not as if OS X has a glut of new games coming out.

As I've said before, it'll all depend on sales of "Rome". If we want more TW titles for Mac then we should buy "Rome", even if we've played it on PC. :)
