I just purchased this game and have been having a fair amount of problems with it. I don't know if it's because of my computer (2.16GHz MacBook w/ GMA 950 Graphics), but I can play the strategy map completely fine, but when I want to go into the battle map it crashes on me. It has worked sometimes, but 90% of the time it will crash right it enters the map. Anyone have this problem, or a solution for me? I love this game, I used to play it all the time on PC, this is/was the one game I really wanted for the Mac all along.

Thanks,

Adam

Drop an email to support and we can have a look at it on Monday.

Hi guys, purchased a copy of rtw Gold t'other day for my partner's MAC & we have been thoroughly enjoying it. Thanks.

But I've got a bit of a problem, that I would be grateful if someone could please help me with. This afternoon we tried to get some LAN battles working with my (PC) version. But...

The Mac version reports player desynchronisation the moment a LAN battle is commenced, at the deployment stage (or straightaway in historical battles). This results in Bad Craziness, & each of us fighting a completely different battle! Has anyone else come up against this particular problem?

Is the Mac version incompatible in multiplayer with the PC version? Could it possibly be some option I need to set up or enable or disable in her Mac's system settings, something that's interfering with the game? I've read in here about firewall problems, but am chary to go clicking away in there without knowing what I'm doing.

I'm pretty sure it's at the Mac end because the error message always says it's at the Mac end; neither of us have mods installed so it's definitely not a game version error. I also got her to disable Airport & plug a network cable in just in case it was something simple like the wireless signal dropping out, & that didn't cure it.

I'm completely stumped. Could anyone else please help me?

Thank you in advance, & apologies for the length of the post...

Cross platform play is not possible this is down to how the PC and the Mac OS do maths the maths functions are slightly different meaning it is impossible to play again each other. We did try, I think I have posted a more detailed explanation earlier in this thread but the long and short of it is that Mac/PC gaming is not feasible.

Odd. =/

Tried that, and it still won't work.

Strange I would email support with a support report, you are not using a none standard keyboard (like Dvorak?). I know (and have tested) it works fine on UK, US, FR, IT, DE and IT keyboards running in all 5 languages.

Hopefully it is just something you have not saved correctly which support can solve for you.

Just bought this, two questions though

I realise LAN multiplayer doesn't work, but does online multiplayer work on with this?

and

Will the game be able to be modded in things like the descr_strat file like it can be in the windows version?

LAN and Online both work fine but only Mac <-> Mac. Due to differences between Mac and PC maths libraries cross platform play is not possible.

Will the game be able to be modded in things like the descr_strat file like it can be in the windows version?

Yes although just like the PC mods are not supported.

mods and activating them

Not without modding, with modding most things are possible if not recommended.

Hi Ed,
re modding,
any news on a guide to getting to Europa Barbarorum or other mods working on the mac version yet?

cheers,
rich.

I don't know of a mod that people have not gotten working, we have heard reports of a few sound issues on the odd mod but they should all work.

You will have to work out what files go where but you should be able to get it running. I have not had time myself to try though.

Have you thought about releasing all of your games on Steam? I can't be bothered buying them, but if they were on Steam then I would definitely consider it, when I got the money.

Ok, I bought this game a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying it. I've got a few questions though:

  1. I started playing (as I do on most games) with the difficulty levels of Hard/Hard. I'm finding this too difficult. Can I change the difficulty down to Medium/Medium without starting a new campaign?
  2. How do I make an Alliance? It seems quite arbitrary as to whether I'm offered this option when I engage in diplomacy with someone.
  3. Is it possible to run this game in 'windowed' mode? I get sucked in for far too many hours, when really I should be doing other stuff at the same time.
Also, is it just me, or has 10.6.3 degraded performance somewhat?

Thanks!

when i try to play online (and i think against other mac players) whenever i try to start the game game ranger says "failed to start game" The same thing happens whenever i host or join a game. Then, when i open the game myself, it goes to the multiplayer window and searches for the game, then can't find it. Is this a game ranger problem, or a different problem?

I think this is a problem with your machine/network. Email support along with a step by step guide of what you do when trying to play. Also attach a support report so we can check your installation and Rome error logs.

1.) No, but you can cheat to grab some extra cash
2.) I think it is fairly arbitrary you can't always have this option it depends on your situation, what your faction is and what faction you are trying to ally with.
3.) Yes but it is not a supported option (although we have used it in the office without problems). Look in the Rome preferences plist file (Read the FAQ on the DVD if you don't know where this is) and find the fullscreen=1 and change it to fullscreen=0 you now have windowed mode.
3.5) Not heard anything about performance issues if you email support with your thoughts and a support report so we know your machines spec we can look into it.

That's OK, I can't be bothered to answer your question.

Only kidding ;)

Sadly I can't say yes or no for the same reason I can't say yes or no on potential future games… nasty legal stuff / wormholes.

What I mean is I much prefer digital download, and can't be bothered buying online from websites I don't know much about, or buying from the US, waiting a few weeks, box probably gets crushed from shipping, and having a box I have no room for wasting space and having to have the DVD in to play (do you have to?), I just much rather buy it as a digital download, which I prefer Steam as it's always tied to my account with no limiting DRM. If shops around here actually stocked Mac games then I would buy it if it wasn't overpriced, but seeing as none do, I'd rather digital. I even bought COD2 Mac recently off eBay, and told the guy just to keep the box and email me the cd key, and I downloaded it and used my CD key with it.
