Mods

I've read on here that mods should work but does anybody have a guide to install them? Thanks.

No Guides exist a few forum posts but it is strictly DIY right now. I have promised to try and make a small tutorial if I have some spare time over a weekend although I have kinda busy right now. :)

The rule of thumb is make your Data.dmg a R/W version using disk image then place all the modded data in the right places.

Got It!!

I finally got rtw for easter! THere are only 2 things I have had a problem with
1 Sometimes when the game is loading a battle the screen goes completely black except for the loading bar
2 When I clicked the "unlock all factions" button it only gave me the "playable" factions. I thought we would be able to "unlock all factions"

1. Seems normal. It's been a while, but I'm almost positive the PC version did the same thing.

2. Playable factions are the only stable ones. You could probably edit the same PC equivalent file in the data folder to play the other factions you weren't intended to play.

1.) Yes we thought we caught them all but it does sometimes happen.

2.) Yes again :) If you want factions that will make the game potentially unstable you need to make the data dmg read/write and edit the ini files manually. As none playable factions are officially unsupported (on PC & Mac) they are not an official option although will be as playable as the PC (and also just as unsupported).

Challenge

If anyone is reading this then uhhh well I am waiting for someone to join an mp game I'm hosting soooo if you are reading this then join!

Wow!

I just played a few multiplayer games against this guy and even though I only one one out of the four battles it was epic!

All Factions

So I just now edited the correct file to unlock all factions but it says "Can't save descr_strat" Someone help!

You need to convert the disk image from a read-only one to a read/write one. As yet I've not found a way to do this. Have you?

If you haven't then you'll not be able to save your changes to the files, despite being able to look at their contents.

To convert a disc image, you just need to open Disk Utility, drag the disc image into the area on the left, select the image in that list and click on the 'convert' option in the top bar. Then choose in the 'image format' drop down 'read / write'.

That should hopefully do the trick for you!

Might be best to back up first and make a copy of the disk image and put it somewhere safe.

I've not done this to the rome image... so can't say it won't break

I converted the disk image, however when you mount the converted .dmg the resultant mounted volume is still Read only so modifications are still impossible.

Nah mate, I managed to do exactly as design-is said (cheers design-is! Thank you very much mate!) & made an "unlocked" copy of the disk image. You have to check the appropriate option in the little drop-down box & you can tell if you have been successful because the icon for the resultant disk image is changed from one shaped like a small portable hard drive to an icon that looks like a folder icon with the picture of the small portable hard drive on it.

I have actually done this last night, & I have been able to modify the contents of said image, & Rome plays fine. My first step was following the guide on twcenter.net regarding adding the unplayable factions to the campaign as playable choices & modifying the preferences file to turn off those bloody stupid floating green arrows.

Woo, & indeed hoo. A test campaign as Thrace is on-going as we speak.

However, all my attempts to install a mod-foldered mod (Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae Gold) have thus far been abortive. The folder goes in place, I presume I'm putting the switch in the right place (the advanced space in the options tab in the Mac pre-launcher window?) because I can tell it's reading from the correct mod-directory because I get the Lusted pre-movie screen...

But then the game crashes back to desktop. I can't seem to get the "-showerr" option to work, so I can't tell where the problem is, but I fear it's something to do with the way the Mac version uses it's file structure, which if I'm guessing right means that a mod-foldered mod is out of the question. I have had to suspend all efforts at the moment as the girlfriend wants to play her vanilla campaign so I have to put everything back where it came from, but I shall next attempt to install a "total conversion" mod that does not rely on mod-foldering, something that I suspect the Mac version is going to like far more than the rather fussy way RTW swaps between its mod & data directories when you are using a mod-foldered mod.

Anyway, thought I'd keep everyone updated, & many many thanks again to design-is.

I still can't figure it out. No need to be a bother but could you do like a step by step walkthrough (I'm not much of a computer genius)

I have a question

is there a build unit cheat, so you can build any type of unit in a city? I've found them online, but no matter what i type i can't get it to work.

also, is there a cheat for completing all the units in the recruitment que? I can't find out how this one works either if there even is one.

thanks

The list of internal unit names (the bit you need to type in between the set of quotes, like where it says "greek silver shield pikemen" in the list of cheat codes) has to be entered in the exact same way--spaces, capital letters etc etc.--that it's entered in the... Uh. I can't remember what it's called. Export_descriptions_Units.txt file? Maybe? It's the file that lists the internal unit names of the units & lists their stats, in the data folder. I can't remember it's name off the top of my head, sorry. Try google. There's a file in there somewhere that has the internal names of all the vices & virtues as well, but I can't remember what that's called either.

@rtwmaniac: I'll see what I can do. But just find out what a disk image is, & follow design-is's post a few above yours. It's all I did, dude. Backups. Just... Make back-ups. Please.

Alright I kept trying to covert the disk image but it keeps telling me I can't change to read/write cause it's read only

I like this thread, but I also love this game!! So, instead of making a new thread, I'm just going to keep this thread going...

Alright, I'm looking for advice/opinions. I've got a campaign going in the original Rome and I'm playing as the Germanic tribe. I'm about halfway through the territory requirements. My tribe has spread throughout Europe and England, Ireland. I got too big for my Roman allies to stay loyal so they've turned on me.

I've got just enough troops on my Eastern front to keep the Scythians at bay. I've got three armies in Spain, picking up more territory from the Julii and I've got 5 northern Italian towns, including Rome, trying to fill out two full stack armies before pushing on to Scipii territory.

I'm in a great position to force them out of Italy and Spain. I should feel anxious to experience the best things in life according to Conan the Barbarian; To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. Instead, I just feel like it's become too tedious of a kingdom to manage.

Usually, when I start a campaign, I micromanage all of my towns. So now, on to my question. What do you do? Do you let the AI auto-manage your towns and just keep Generals on the key towns that need to be micromanaged? Do you let your interior towns do their recruiting and building or just one or the other?

What I'm hoping for is to know what advice people have to offer on their experiences with letting the AI manage their towns so that I can start incorporating good ideas into my campaign play style.

I've actually only beat the grand campaign 3 times, because usually when I get a tribe to this point, I start losing interest. I'm hoping to figure out what I need to change in order to keep the fun going in the second half.

Where is the option to Allow All Factions?

Help appreciated.

Hey Ian, I just have one single question, do you know if the napoleon total war will run smoothly with medium graphics and large army in the new 13" with the 320m graphics card?

Thanks so so much!
