I kind of hope Microsoft doesn't do what Apple does. Sure, the various Apple OSes are great and all, but it's hard to support an entire company/school district if various versions of the OS have different features. The frequent "You need a newer version of the OS to run this app" just makes it hard. I'm lucky to work in a school district since we get the summers off. With that, we can upgrade our fleet of devices fairly easily.
Backwards compatibility is important for Microsoft and us users. It's Windows 11 is a bit different in how many existing PC's it can run on, but it still runs apps that ran on Windows 10 (and before)

Apple, on the other hand, I don't now what they're thinking, and to tell the truth, I'm getting really annoyed with them right now. I may have already bought my last Apple product.

Curiouser and Curiouser.

I just installed Win 11 22000.132 as VMs under both Parallels and VMware Fusion, to compare the speeds.
All is good, both installed nicely.

However...
The VMware installation updated to 22000.168, and the Parallels version won't. It just doesn't see the update, although it does pick up the security updates.
Anybody have any ideas?

Do they both have TPM's assigned to them? The news today said that some PCs are being booted out of the Insider Preview version (making them non-updatable) if they don't meet the hardware requirements.

Well it works fine on my Macbook Pro 17" 2008. Intel core 2 duo. Not running on VM or any emulator. Possibly the only one and oldest MAC running Windows 11 right now.

So, anyone else have Windows 11 installed? I installed it on my Hackintosh (equivalent to low end 2013 Mac pro) and it runs fine, even on the HDD as I am only testing it. I was even able to update to the latest security updates. Granted, it feels like a fancy W10, but it looks nice. I'm wondering why this was such a big deal to Microsoft, even though everything works as it should so far.

Windows 11 has some very strong security enhancements, hence the need to have a TPM 2.0 and secure boot. They've got a thing that uses virtualization to watch for security threats. It takes antivirus tech to the next level.

As for the UI, bleh, but I run applications, not stare at the UI all day. Windows 11 is just as backwards compatible at running applications as Windows 10.

Hello,
I have installed it on dual boot on Mac Intel. And it works very well. You can find my method here. It's in french but you will understand, i think. You can use Rufus or WinToUsb tools.

How? I can’t get it to boot on my MacBook 5,1 or my MBP 6,1. I created the installer with the ISO. I think I might have used Belena Etcher, which worked on my hackintosh. It will show up on the MacBooks, but when selecting to boot from it, it just freezes and stays on that boot selection screen. Any suggestions?

I've successfully installed Windows 11 on my MacBook Pro 9,1 (non retina 15inch 2012). I already had a Bootcamp Installation of Windows 10 and it was running under a Legacy Bios. I used this exact video right here:

I have ran into ZERO issues. All drivers work so far including sound, video (I have multiple monitors using mini DisplayPort), keyboard functions, and more importantly, I can switch back to macOS (still using Catalina) no problem.

EDIT: I did the upgrade option where all my files and apps were kept. Whole process took about 40min.

Let us know how it works on your MBP
Will do. At work now but I’ll check it out tonight and report back with results.

The machine currently has Mojave which is dropping out off support this fall (now basically). I dual boot with Windows 10, but 11 would be more complimentary to the Apple style.

NoGo on my MBP 6,1. It did install just fine and boots fine, but there is some BSOD related to a driver. I am assuming this is when it loads bootcamp drivers. I need to troubleshoot this, but I will update if I figure out what it is.

I think it might be the NVIDIA Drivers.

Do you know if your Windows installation is Legacy or UEFI? You might be able to fix it by downloading WinClone

I'm not sure. I would assume UEFI as it is Bootcamped on this MBP. After a reinstall of Windows 10 and an upgrade to 11, I have determined that it is one of the Apple Drivers as it only started after I installed the Bootcamp drivers. Any way to identify the bad driver? I'd like to remove it.

Hey everyone, just joining the discussion as I'm curious if anyone has tried to upgrade to Windows 11 on a boot camp install on a 2013 Intel-based iMac? I'm currently running Win 10 on my iMac 2013 on external HDD (gives me more space that way for both my MacOS and Win OS). After reading amgff84's unsuccessful attempt and given that I don't have a backup image, I'm a bit warey of trying it on mine right now.

For me, I basically rebooted into safe mode and removed the apple drivers. You can also restore to Windows 10... If you felt up to the challange!

Hi I have installed Windows 11 and it's working fine apart from that there is no sound coming out of the speakers. I've gone through and checked the settings and the sound is being played as the sound bar is moving. Any ideas in why i can't hear anything.

As you can see in the pictures sound setting there is sound there (blue line) and also device manager is showing the devices installed).

Do i need a different bootcamp driver.

Did you install the boot camp drivers? You should be good with just that, but my MacBook crashes in Windows 11 with the boot camp drivers.

Curious, what is your experience like with Win11 on both virtual systems? How's speed overall? How's stability? Have you installed any apps that you use frequently and if so what's that been like?

If you were to run your Win11 virtual machine in fullscreen for work and stuff, (a) what's the hit on battery life and (b) what's the overall experience like?
