When you bring your phone it should use that as GPS - if you have a Series 2, you can see by the altitude of your runs is included when you bring it and not if you don’t
OK, that makes sense. I just checked the run in question and it shows elevation data, so I can be confident that it was using the iPhone's GPS.

Thanks.

Short running update with the newest 4.1 Beta software from my latest marathon yesterday in Odense, Denmark, for those of you who are using it. Ran with my AirPods as well for the second marathon this year and third with my watch (back then old Bluetooth headphones)

The new WatchOS 4 music control is a great addition to the interface and makes it hell of a lot easier to adjust volume in my AirPods

The slightly adjusted interface of WatchOS 4 is minimal adjustment and on par with the old. Don’t really have a ton of preference on either side.

On the negative side my battery level is still way below WatchOS 3 levels and even though I had my iPhone in my FlipBelt all the way for the music, it still came home at around 25-27% battery. Not really impressive considering it didn’t even use the gps because of the phone was along the trip.

Regarding the AirPods they are just amazing. They stay in my ears amazing no matter the heat or movement - no problem at all. Started the race with relative low volume on to hear the crowd and adjusted it a bit later.
Came in just over four hours and just before my finish straight they died of battery. So just over four hours of battery and not five as advertised?

Conclusion: still love my AirPods and AW:S2 for running - best kit ever, but will not let the phone stay home for the long runs before something drastic happens to the battery life (Prioritize this in the next software please Apple)

Good to have that feedback, something you should for sure know about is that you should never judge or expect good battery life if running a beta OS, betas run diagnostics and aren’t designed with the battery in mind. You should expect the battery life to increase quite a bit with a final release version.

Yeah of course it should improve, but to be honest it really didn’t improve when 4.0 went final - not much at least

No problem - the running community in these threads need to help each other. Still have figured out why my AirPods are at least 20% below Apple claims

Latest strava update introduces audio cues. Not had a chance to test yet. Thing is, I’ve just bought a series 3 and I’m not sure the strava app will record elevation data from the watch so not sure I’ll use it.

Fingers crossed for this one!

Ah it’s a no go for me then. No matter how good their app becomes.

Well to be honest, they have opened up a little bit.. They have opened to some "partners" in the app - Not ones I have any use of, so haven't tested it, but looks like some sync with Garmin and TomTom

Also....for those who are struggling to get recovery heart rate to track...I’ve found that opening the heart rate app just after the workout for 3 minutes fills the graph consistently

Looks like NRC and Strava have released updates. For NRC, guided runs are now included on the watch (doubt I would ever use this). I wish they would add heart rate to their voice feedback, or at least make it readable on the watch display.

For Strava, voice feedback has been added, but it appears to be limited to mile splits and start/pause/resume/stop. Not sure why they couldn't have added the ability to set distance/duration for the voice feedback. It's a start I guess.

I’m happy to report that my first 10K with the new updated app was way better than before. The crashes when pressing finish didn’t happen and the distance was spot on - and finally voice feedback available for us non-English speakers (like the iPhone app)

All in all pretty great and love the new latest runs overview on the watch

Have downloaded “My first speed run” to try out the guided runs later this week - hope it’s good cause I really need to get started with intervals

Is this the Nike run club app or the built in apple workout app?

Nike run club.
Awesome, thanks. I thought that was the one being talked about but wanted to make sure. The reviews of NRC on watch os 4 have been terrible and is the reason I haven't updated my phone/watch. Sounds like it might be ok to update now.

Yeah finally great again - and with a couple of new nice additions as well

hmm... all i have is:
Match it
Distance
Duration
Speed

I have a S2 watch but nothing says i'd need S3 to use this feature right?

Have you made sure you have updated the app? Below speed when scrolling it starts showing big pictures of the new guides
