Lol I think you got it back wards buddy. GE on my s4 has no flaws. Everything works. CM loses audio while receiving calls every couple of mins or so. Plus I got two force closes immediately on cm while I have zero so far in 6 days of GE.

Indeed. CM is a solid ROM in its stable form but it's still strictly nightly-only for the GS4 right now. On the other hand, the GE ROMs are literally designed for the GS4's hardware by Samsung themselves.

Plan...

Ok so I'm going to root on my mac with motochopper

Going to instal TWRP via goomanager from the play store

Once TWRP is installed, backup my rom

Then wipe data, and then flash GE 4.2.2 or 4.3 rom/zip

My question is... If my microSD hasn't arrived just yet, can I backup my rom to internal storage, and then transfer it to my mac later to free up space?

Yup. TWRP keeps it's backups in the media/TWRP folder which it skips when wiping your device so that your backup is preserved.

I have a slimbean and ge backup on my internal storage and they are still there after I "wipe and factory reset" in TWRP.

I was too up until like 2 days ago. I've been getting more calls these days so getting some without any sound is too frustrating. I've switched to Omega for the time being but I really miss CM and it's features :(

They finally fixed it! :D

It was a simple typo causing the problem all along, I can't help but laugh at that :p

Oh I thought you already had it :p

Nope, been waiting for the money to come in, which it finally is today. Been hanging around S4 threads just for pre-purchase research.

Will either have one tomorrow or Monday, hopefully tomorrow :D

I collect the black (mist) GS4 tomorrow, and will flash GE 4.2.2 on it pronto (I have everything ready).

I have the weekend then to decide if I will keep it - and if so ... whether to give up either my Z10 or HTC One for it, my trade can be for either...

If GE fixes what I didn't like about it originally (namely Touchwiz) but keeps the things I like (camera quality) then its likely it will replace my One as no point having two similar devices. But we shall see, Samsung you've got a second chance :)

Ironic that the first thing were doing is ditching Samsung's software though :D

Can't decide whether to go CM10 or AOSP 4.2.2

Though I was wondering, how do we put Touchwiz back on if we ever have to return to manufacturer or sell off later ? is it merely a case of flashing the backup we made in custom recovery or do we need a new full image and Odin ?

There's a bunch of stock TW recoveries out there. As easy as flashing ODIN. You could always restore a backup, but if you're selling it, much quicker to use the stock recoveries off XDA

Look at the Task 4.2.2 ROM. It would be my choice if I wasn't on the GE ROM. Better than CM10 IMO.

Thanks.

Just downloaded the stock rom for the device from SamMobile just in case it ever needs to be returned back to Touchwiz.

SamMobile seems to indicate it can be flashed via Kies ?

I used an S4 for 2 weeks, then swapped to the One for 6 weeks.. ended up going back to the S4. :s

I like the One, but the 4MP does show its age.

Yeah playing with the Z10 for last week or so - even it has a far superior camera to the HTC One and its only 8mp. HDR is better, it handles high contrast better. Ultrapixel was a bad error of judgment for most end users I think.

Its probably why I may keep the BB Z10 and trade my One instead if I can sort out stock android on the S4.

I really like Sense 5 though, if only there was a way of putting Sense 5 on the S4 and I'd be sorted. Oh well.... :) oh and I would miss boomsound.

Here's an example, last month I went on a cross-country drive. This is a slightly zoomed in photo of the Texas/Mexico border taken on my HTC One. Albeit there is an Instagram filter added, but that shouldn't change the resolution.

Mine have never been that bad.... Seems ultra low res.

You can either flash the nandroid backup you make in the recovery or you can flash the stock firmware back in ODIN. Either one works. If you want to return the phone to 100% stock, I think the ODIN method is best though because it erases all evidence of modding, whereas obviously flashing through the custom recovery still means your phone is modded.

Personally I will likely go for CM10 now that the call audio bug is sorted :)

I'll go for AOSP 4.2.2 and we can both let each other know how we get on :) The joys of perilously being close to bricking a new device :D
