It's here and I'm running stock android ;-)

Now I have to work how the hell I flash a backup rom / zip from Sammobile back to the phone via odin in case I need to go back.

What settings do you use in Odin (bootloader / pda etc..) and do I have to unzip the zip file from SamMobile ?

Options should be kept at default (and make sure Repartition isn't checked) and you use PDA to load the md5.

Flew from my Galaxy S4 to the wonderful land as your display through some network's abysmal data speeds.

When did that error occur? Have you changed the modem firmware? Try the one recommended for whatever ROM or kernel you're using, or just try another ROM altogether. If that doesn't work, it may be a hardware fault, which I think is most likely because I can't find many reports of a no sim error related to custom ROMs on xda.

----------

Go to about phone and find your IMEI. If it still shows up correctly, it is almost certainly a hardware problem.

Sounds like hardware, get a replacement.

Don't do that, contact the retailer, since you just got it you have a 30 day return period, they'll replace it very quickly rather than having to wait for Samsung to repair it.

Cant, I got it via a 3rd party individual...... on equivalent of craigslist... :(

it will have to be a Samsung warranty repair.

If I were you I'd chase that person up for a refund, they sold you a faulty phone man.

That might be more hard work than just contacting Samsung. I'll ring them first and if they cant help me I'll go after your man, but easier to take warranty route after all its got 24 months warranty according to their own website.... which means there has to be at least 20 months left on it....

True, it's just the principle I guess, if a guy sold me a bad product I wouldn't want him keeping my money.

But as long as you get a working phone that's what's important I guess.

Uh ohh.. your problem seems odd. Before you send it in to Samsung, even though you flashed with Odin.. I would still recommend flashing over that with Kies.

Last time I Odin flashed back to stock, for whatever reason it didn't delete all my data from the previous ROM and TouchWiz was throwing so many errors I couldn't get passed setup. Maybe it didn't flash your modem?

Seriously though, try Kies. It installs all drivers you need if you're on a PC anyway. :p

If you're using the same ROM as me (A 4.2.2 GE ROM) I'm not having any issues whatsoever. :(

EDIT: I might not have recommended you this before, but anytime you buy/sell an Android device (or even iOS) I'd use Swappa. It's a very secure alternative to eBay/Craigslist and it's only for tablets/phones.

I sold my One and bought my S4 on there the same day. No issues.

Yeah there are no reports of this problem being caused by a custom ROM that I can see, only when people mess around with their /efs directory, which is why I asked if he can still see his IMEI. Other than that it only pops up due to a hardware fault with either the SIM reader, SIM tray, or antenna.

Before sending it in just make sure ODIN does not report that the status is modified. If it does you may need to use Triangle Away before flashing the stock ROM again.

Do you think it could be anything to do with his APN settings?

Thanks both of you...

Yep my IMEI is fine ad working.

How do I flash via KIES and / or check Odin to see where it says modified and flash 'triangle away' if necessary.

Plug the phone in, load up ODIN, and it should tell you the phone status somewhere. I've not got my phone yet so I can't give you more info than that. But it should either say modified or official. If it says modified, you need to use Triangle Away to fix that before sending it into Sammy. That link also has instructions on how to check your device status.

To flash to stock using Kies do this. Make sure USB debugging is enables.

1. Download Kies
2. Connect device and it will install appropriate drivers (if on PC)
3. Select Tools -> Fireware Upgrade and Initialisation
4. After that, it will walk you through very simple steps.

Kies will automatically put your phone into Odin mode when it downloads the software, this is fine.

Thanks guys.

So I had to 'root again' with motochopper
Install triangleaway
use traingleaway
then install superSU from playstore
use superSU to remove root
uninstall traingleaway via app management

then onto kies

Let us know how it goes. :p

Sorted :) kies now updating firmware, and the other steps were easy enough.

Samsung were very helpful and are sending me a jiffy bag to return the handset. Will take 5-10 days to return.

Fingers crossed they just replace it... on the bright side I've sure learned a **** load about flashing, odin and rooting....
