Trouble in paradise. :(

My saddle brown band will go back to Apple Store. On the retainer loop (to hold excess band), the leather on it is being peeled back at the edge. I read this somewhere on here i think that the retainer loop does this...not as well made as the rest of band. The band itself is great, nice thick leather. But the loop is very thin layer from what i read/see.

I will see what Apple Store says...not sure i want another saddle brown because it will just repeat because the retainer loop is what contacts the table/surface with the way that i am wearing it.

I have had this saddle brown for about a month.

Maybe back to my midnight blue sport band for now.....

Oh sorry to hear that. Would you say it's frayed or worn by scraping on things? I'd venture to say most watch bands with retainers are made of thinner leather than the bands based on the bands I have so it does make them weaker than the band. BTW my Apple Classic black band (rev 1 that I bought with my AW) which I've worn quite a bit since what April? when I first got my Watch looks fine.

The top leather (very very thin layer...almost thin film of leather) is scraped back at the edge, probably from friction with my work desk and other surfaces. I think that you're right about thinner leather on the retainers.

I am still debating if i want to return it since it is such a beautiful & comfy band.

Of course the leather is thinner on the retainer, but hey it is Apple Design, where no stitching would be preferable (to keep it clean) If you are not happy, bring it back for replacement :)

btw with rev 1 of the black band I read a lot a complaints about sides coming loose biut not about the retainer

Yeah, but a replacement will do the same. If i can it refunded (beyond 14 days), then i will sit tight for March announcement and see what comes out. If i cannot get a refund, then i guess that i will get it again.

Now that i have been searching around for leather bands, i do not see any with retainer loop having stitching around the edges like the band.

come on man, you just were unlucky, and it might have been your own fault (I don't know)

Cheer up and get to the Apple Store to have it replaced. This "But a replacement will do the same." talk is IMHO too negative. ;)

It may have been my fault from wearing the retainer loop low. But, seeing how THIN that leather is on the retainer loop, i don't much confidence for long-term...i don't like to change bands often...so, this is my daily driver.

This eBay one has me interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140978164381?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Calf leather. Kinda expensive (hopefully equals quality). No retainer loop since it uses an "Omega-type" deployment clasp (which is way better than butterfly type).

So far so good here with my Black rev1 band.

OK...i was wrong. With a loupe, i am able to get a better picture of what is wrong with my CB retainer loop. The retainer loop leather is fine...the problem is that the rubber compound on the side is splitting from edge of leather. Hopefully the pics below show it better through the loupe. The reason you see the lighter color is that the rubber compound is peeling away from the edge exposing the side of the leather.

So, leather quality is fine...the rubber compound application is the issue on the retainer loop.

Is this quality control issue? I guess so because no one has the same issue. I will probably get it exchanged then. Whew! I really do love the band! :)

You should be able to. The buckle is attached to the band on the INSIDE of buckle with regular pin i believe.

Purchased one... and definitely not going to try and mess with this buckle since, as you've stated, the band is attached on the inside of the buckle. I personally prefer deployment clasps for ease of operation.

Just a quick update. Took my saddle brown band in to Apple. They were very nice about it. Offered exchange. The new Classic Buckle saddle brown band was from a brand new box sealed. When it was opened, the leather on the non-buckle side had dark stripes on it...many of them, one after another in alternating pattern like! I did not want to take a pic of it because i felt that it was inappropriate. The Apple guy and I talked about it...he was surprised too. He did offer me another one new box to open...but at this point, i was kinda disappointed about quality checks at Apple or leather OEM I got a refund instead.

So, i am back to my midnight blue sport band and waiting for next month...but in particular, waiting for AliveCor band to come out.

Well I might be different, but to me the life of a leather strap is NOT to look brand new all the time. It should get patina from the life of the owner - that's what gives it life and unique style (not break apart of course)...

So @Thai just enjoy it man - it looks awesome... I would love one, but think it looks awful for my Space Black SS with the SS adaptors, so I might look elsewhere.

Just wanted to show a leather strap I use as my secondary (link almost daily) at the moment, which has a different look than the saddle, but one I fancy quite a lot:

That strap is very handsome. Can you share where you got it?

Can anyone post some updated pics of their classic buckle? I'm really interested to see the patina and wear people are putting on the band.

I have both the black rev2 and saddle brown for a couple of months but don't wear them daily. I suppose you will see more patina on the brown one though :)

I have my Space black coming soon and this looks fantastic. Would love the apple brown classic as well but hesitant due to the reasons you mentioned. Can't we just buy adapters though?

Yes the one in the pictures is with space black adapters and my strap on it. But I'm not going to pay an awful lot of money for an OEM Apple strap to replace adapters or use wrong colour. They can do better.
