I just want to hear real-world reviews/opinions of people who actually get it and use it like a normal phone. I'm not talking about reviews on tech sites, which are usually paid for in some way.

I'm curious what the average user will say about the phone. Is the functionality worth it? Is it a good product overall?

I doubt I'll get one any time soon, but ultimately it will be the initial response and subsequent sales performance that will decide if there will be future iterations. I for one would be interested in such a device if the price goes down and the device is made to be a little slimmer.

It already is an issue for some. Double standards I think.

I don’t know why people can’t just accept it for what it is. A first gen cutting edge device.

Lol, this guy made some very good points though

Samsung have been reducing bezels, keeping 3.5mm jack and made fun of notches and then BOOOM, Galaxy Fold with huge bezels, no 3.5mm jack and probably the largest notch we have ever seen.

It's rather comical, I have to say.

People are going to criticize.

In the same way that it is hilarious that this guy goes on about all this but forgets that Apple product that was announced and then canceled after 2 years of "its coming, it's coming".

We are interesting times.

The fold is not a regular phone, it’s a new device catagory. You can’t expect it to have all the polish of a form factor that’s been around for years.

The same guy was ranting on Twitter and trying to compare the fold to the HomePod or the AirPods because they were first gen devices for Apple.

This is the same guy that defended Apple for not putting a fast charger in the box. Claimed that it was Apple’s way of protecting battery longevity and also because a faster charger is too bulky and ugly looking.

Lol, seriously!? So this is the guy our local Android Haters listen to when they come spew their nonsense here then, explains a lot.

Still I found some of his points quite hilarious, he seems to have a major agenda against anyone that criticizes Apple.

Right there with you. I have to admit I've been far more tempted the past few days after seeing all of the hands on videos and first impressions--and I generally really don't like Samsung devices. It's a good thing Samsung didn't send me an invite to pre-order yesterday as I may very well have pulled the trigger. The build quality looks terrific. It really is the tablet layout that's most intriguing to me. But like most I have some reservations that have me holding off.

1) Plastic screen with the crease. Yes, it looks better than I expected but I still really like sturdy, flat glass and worry the plastic screen will bother me after a while

2) App compatibility. Let's face it, this is primarily a small tablet and Android and most apps just suck on tablets. Apps need to be specifically optimized to work with the multi-window layout and continuity, which looks to be limited primarily to Google and Samsung apps at launch. I use a ton of 3rd party apps and having the equivalent of 'using most Android apps on Chrome' type of experience (re: not very good) defeats the benefits offered by this device.

3) The small, skinny phone layout. I understand why that screen is so small on this iteration of the Fold...filling that front panel would result in a super tall yet skinny aspect ratio what wouldn't be much better, if at all, versus the 4.6" display they're using. To improve this layout would mean making each half wider, which itself would screw with the inside tablet aspect ratio, making it essentially a square. Again, not ideal (re: even more black bars on video and more terrible phone app layouts). I guess I would lean towards having the latter problem, so not sure using the current, skinny phone display would be very enjoyable.

I'm still quite intrigued by the Fold, much more so than I thought I would be (I've been pretty staunchly skeptical of the user experience of a plastic, crease filled display till now). Yes, it's damn expensive but in some context, it's not much more than you'd spend on a comparable phone/tablet combo. A Galaxy S10+ with 512GB storage (same as Fold) and iPad Mini 256GB w/LTE capability (the model you'd need to have similar performance to the Fold) is $1928 here in the US.

I'm looking forward to some hands on time with it.

I fear I may have pre-ordered it as well if I caught it, by the time I looked the pre-orders were full. I look forward to seeing it live at Tmobile in a couple of weeks, will help to solidify my decision. No matter it's weaknesses it's still a VERY compelling device if you can afford it. Overall this has to be the most exciting time since I started using pocket PC's, I just can't believe we are actually going to have foldable phones/tablets. Just imagine what we are going to have in 5-10 years.

The Verge review unit broke in a day, yikes.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/17/...roken-screen-debris-dust-hinge-flexible-bulge

Happened multiple times in the article. Bad look right now.
I wonder if they were testing out the durability. However even so the average consumer wouldn’t treat it with kid gloves either.

A complete disaster for Samsung. Shocked really after all the years in testing, that units supplied for reviewers have failed so badly after 24 hours.

I got to be honest, I thought it would be more durable. Well, hopefully, Samsung doesn't say that's part of it (like bends in ipad pros).
They cant. These devices are broken and don’t work anymore. The iPads still work even if bent. My iPad Air 2 was bent and my current 10.5 inch pro is bent but still works.

I’m not really buying that they break after a day. Surely Samsung would have had their own people testing them for a few weeks at least to see how durable they are.

Them breaking after a few months I can see because I doubt Samsung would test them for that long but a day or two surely they gave been tested.

This is becoming a PR disaster. The worst part about this is that for quite sometime nobody outside of Samsung and that model had been allowed to use the device, these are the first people using it and this is happening

This is not good for Foldables in general, if this keeps happening people will be quite hesitant about Foldables going forward for a while.

I understand it's 1st Gen, but if a 1st Gen can break this quickly, it's not at all good.

Oh well it’s been good for laughs reading this thread. Hard to imagine who’d buy this garbage. Lol.

Don’t remove the film protection! Lol. Samsung should know better and wait to copy Apple. Maybe they should stick to focusing on bloatware for now. The unwashed love it.
