It already is an issue for some. Double standards I think.

I don’t know why people can’t just accept it for what it is. A first gen cutting edge device.
I’m despising YouTube click bait vids like that. I just don’t bother.

Magically, the Fold is acceptable now to those whose ‘life depended on’ there being a 3.5mm jack & no notch...

There are hypocritical fan bois on both sides. Best not to give any of them airtime...

Lets wait and see how it pans out. No point in jumping to conclusions yet.
I think it's a little too late, Editors from Bloomberg and CNBC have had failures, this will be in the morning news, I am cringing just thinking about it, when I turn on the news tomorrow morning while getting ready for work I guarantee I will hear abut this.

Samsung have built an incredible reputation that nearly fell with the Note7, I can tell you now the Folds all doing this on such close timing is already quite bad.

The next step is for their brilliant PR to step in.

Hopefully none of the consumer devices will be like this.

Why exactly are they failing? Is it the hard ‘smacking’ of the screen when you fold the device, as the magnets ‘grab’?

Bored at work has lasted at least 24 hours with the fold

[doublepost=1555525797][/doublepost]
I’d better stay out of there then as I will only get annoyed lol
That guy’s released a couple of decent vids...

It's a mix of THINGS, MKBHD and some other guy pulled on what they thought was the Screen Protector.

However, Dieter Bohn from The Verge and Steve Kovach from CNBC had straight up failures

A complete disaster for Samsung. Shocked really after all the years in testing, that units supplied for reviewers have failed so badly after 24 hours.

It's obvious they rushed this to market just to say they were the first. It's a shame that consumers paying close to 2k are the ones who are going to suffer. I hope this doesn't turn into a PR fiasco like the Note 7 did.

The Macrumours tweet mentioning the broken Fold has so many likes it's pathetic.

Apple fanbois who take joy out of this clearly don't appreciate tech in general & just want any opposition to fail. Sad stuff.

800+ likes isn't really that substantial. And go ahead and look at the number of likes for the MacRumors tweet regarding the cancellation of AirPower, a product made by Apple and sought after by those 'fanbois'...more than the number for the Fold tweet. Go take a look at the comments section on any YouTube video that focuses on a short coming of an Apple product (i.e. Unbox Therapy or Linus Tech Tips are full of those) and it's full of Android 'fanbois' just relishing Apple's flaws.

That bias goes both ways.

Oh well it’s been good for laughs reading this thread. Hard to imagine who’d buy this garbage. Lol.

Don’t remove the film protection! Lol. Samsung should know better and wait to copy Apple. Maybe they should stick to focusing on bloatware for now. The unwashed love it.
Nice to see a fellow lover of technology watching new technology going through some growing pains and giving insightful and thoughtful commentary.

Samsung needs to dummy proof its warning a bit more. But that is really weird having a peelable (not a real word) layer that looks like a temporary screen protector.

We are clearly moving into new territory here and this is not a product for the masses. Which Samsung did sort of warn us about during their Unpacked event. I think they were marketing this to people who shared their vision and pioneering spirit and were willing to endure some rough patches for the privilege of living on the bleeding edge.

Still, it does not seem ready even for the brave people willing to pay through the nose for the privilege of being beta testers. That’s a pretty significant design shortcoming, having such a fragile layer that looks like it’s not even really a permanent component of the device.

I’m surprised they didn’t learn the basics of idiot proofing from the time they had customers inserting SPens into the Note 5 wrong and getting the pens permanently stuck. Maybe they are used to Korean customers being more careful about reading all the fine print warnings???

My mini 4 needs updating and this was always beyond my budget anyway. With a trade in I can get the cheapest mini 5 at very affordable price, under $300. And I’ll probably do that tomorrow. But when Samsung gets this foldable form factor worked out, I’m looking forward to it. Someday. At least now we see how far they’ve come with it and how much further they need to go.

They only made a limited number of these so I think it’s quite clear it isn’t ready for the masses yet. However I’m sure Samsung will go back and work on it and in a few years we might see something we can buy. Even the few consumers who were willing to put down 2K could have easily pulled it off. It seems very fragile.

I’m also coming round to the idea of upgrading to the mini 5. After trade in its £250 to upgrade so not bad at all. I’ll probably get one after the Easter weekend.

I guess people just like to dwell in negativity.

Lesson learnt - on hard way. Next time they (reviewers) probably check the manuals before doing..

”We will ensure this information is clearly delivered to our customers.”

Some just needs a guardian full time, thankfully samsung can put a sticker inside the package rather than a agreement for guardians.

Difficult to say. If I spent 2K on such a device I’d be babying it to no end. However not sure what others would do. Then there are some reviewers who are probably trying their best to break it so they can get views for their channels. We even have some youtubers who have only had pre-ordered one so they can rip it apart on their channel in a big I told you so moment.

Ouch! Sounds like some screens were failing even without the protective layer being removed.
Not good Samsung, not good at all.

Even if the Mate X gets scratched, it's still better than a failing screen.
Back to the drawing board, this isn't ready.

Nobody knows how well the mate X works.

This is true but Huawei have the luxury of hindsight.
I would imagine they won't face these sort of issues out the box.
A dead screen vs a potentially scratched screen I think it's easy to assume the Mate X is looking better by the day.
And plenty of people have used a Mate X, hand's on.
Our Tsepz is one of many.

This device is a couple of days old and failing like a failing thing.
This is a shame really, I'd hoped they had the screen nailed.

People have used the mate X for about an hour at tops. They didn’t get to take it away for any length of time. The fold worked well enough for 24 hours for most reviewers which is much longer than anyone had with the Mate X.

However I’m sure Huwawei will double down now that they have seen Samsungs failure.

Mate x could have same issues due the screen folding the other way... Its hard to measure at this point the future of this and how to fix this...

Apple would have to actually innovate to bring out a device as this... The fact they don't anymore chances are you will waiting decades before they do anything.

As for bloatware... Think you are stuck in 2010. You will find no more bloatware on Samsung devices as you will see on apple devices..

Apple will just sit back until others like Samsung and Huwawei have done all the years of hard work to get this into a workable product that can be sold to the mass market. They will then come along and copy it and give it a fancy new name and then people will be screaming about how innovate Apple are and how Apple are not the first but they do it right.
