Really ? I have been using JL for over 40 years and consider them one of the few remaining good guys

But there you go :rolleyes::(

Lol I've bought just one thing from them and I will not step foot in one of their stores ever again. Absolute jokers.

In other news, found a cool wallpaper that was almost made for the Note 10! (It wasn't, it just happens to hide the hole punch nicely!)

And this pretty cool one which will match the back of your device if you chose the wacky CD colour :p

Oooh can you please share?

While I do not place great reliance on league tables The Note 10 jumped from 5th to 1st place on DxOMark so they must of done something :)

Still its the same old slant whatever OEM you favour others will slur to suit their bias or preferences
It’s all a trade off. Maybe some phones like the pixel or Huwawei have better cameras but the pixel doesn’t have the same features as a Samsung flagship and I don’t like stock android. Huwawei have a great zoom lens and a good night mode but that’s about it. Samsung have a good camera and the phone is a better all around package. The current iPhone also has a good camera but it’s not the best.

As for the note 10+, there have been some improvements since the S10+ from what I’ve seen so far. I never expected them to improve the telephoto lens so I wasn’t disappointed.

In a lot of cases (certainly mine), it's more about what kind of picture you prefer. Strictly talking about the camera, taking zoom, wide, dynamic range, type of pic etc into consideration, the S10+/Note 10+ would come out on top.

But the type of pic is most important to me, which the Pixel wins out on. Samsung have the camera (even if its not changed much), they just have to up their processing. Just my opinion though.

Personally I think Samsung cameras are among the most feature rich and flexible. And when it comes to video, they are only really rivaled by iPhones.

The issue with Samsung cameras, and most other OEM cameras, is in the software. Especially the failure to make motion shots look like stills. When I had my S10 plus and my wife had a Pixel 3A, my shots of our son moving would constantly be blurry whereas hers taken with the Pixel would look like stills and be perfectly clear.

One quick note on the video of the S10+ vs Note 10, they are said to have improved image stabilization so that panning across a scene is now smooth as has been for iPhones. Also the digital audio zoom appears impressive to me, from what I have seen in online demonstrations of the feature. Of course I hope to test these improvements for myself.

For me, these are significant improvements that will make the upgrade worth it. The jitter I would get panning the camera across a scene has annoyed me for quite some time. I’ve generally preferred everything about my Samsung videos (over my iPhone videos) except for that.

And once I became aware of the murky audio I was forced to endure under Apple and discovered smartphone audio did not have to suck so bad and could even be available in stereo, I’ve become a bit obsessed with getting any improvements in audio I could.

Oddly enough, my HTC10 from a few years back gave me stereo audio recording quality that Apple’s latest still can’t touch. Apple charges such high prices but they economize on these features and that’s why I keep on the fence between an Android and an IPhone.

One thing to note regarding iPhones high prices. With how often you switch phones (not criticizing, I share the addiction), aren't iPhones almost a better value? Hear me out, if you buy a Note 10 for $1k and sell it a year later you probably get $600 for the phone if you're lucky. If you buy a new iPhone max you'll pay roughly $1400 but you'll probably sell it a year later for $1k. So with the iPhone you're mainting roughly 70% of the original value after a year whereas with Samsung you're probably retaining 55-60%.

Yes its so much about personal preference :)

My preference is not to get too excited about the differences :)

Given that there is little difference in physical hardware other than the obvious (eg 3rd lens) generally on these sophisticated point and shoot we are at the mercy of the clever algorithms and image post processing. So much so even many with RAW pictures could spend hours trying to replicate similar results if at all with multiple stacking etc

This is why cheaper phones can produce good images or better to some more expensive ones, if they have better post processing, subjectively

Same as some note image blurring occurs in say auto mode opposed to say pro mode as its a preference some OEM's have taken under certain conditions not to have such higher shutter/ISO speed

Samsung may well have been lagging up to the S9's but the S10's and Note 10's are catching up in some areas and excelling in others

However without splitting hairs on most current smart phones picture quality is not a deciding factor for me even though I was once a keen amateur photographer :)

As long as I can see the Wife and Kids clearly memories fill in the rest of the details now :D

Lets face it of the 1000's of photos we probably take a year most are personal family orientated, or daft stuff for social media and friends. Of the few exceptional ones most of these end up as screen savers or lock screens on TV's and phones, physical prints are a rarity and normally to give granny a shot of a graduation for her sideboard collection :)

That’s a fair observation and definitely something to keep in mind.

Here we go again with sticker prices and not factoring real ownership cost

Most get amazing trade-ins and bundles when buying their new Samsung or wait a few months and get a substantial discount.

Apart from UK that seemed to lucked out this year most are getting anywhere from $175 to over $500 of freebies to keep or sell on or gift as you please

When you factor all these in and like for like on service costs, ram, accessories etc etc the less deprecation on an IPhone which is noticeably better in the US, is soon diminished

If you also factor in those that upgrade regularly they can be even better off as effectively they also get a new warranty oppose to AC price which also would be needed to be factored in

This is also ignoring the fun of owning a new and current device

I just tried DEX on my Surface GO and it's solved a problem I have had for ages :)

I have an Android box streaming TV/Video service that also runs on any android phone but cannot be mirrored/cast

Previous versions of DEX allowed me to play in hotel rooms etc via cable mainly for the wife to catch soaps when we are travelling etc but it was always windowed yet still bigger than the phone screen

Now with new DEX you can force apps to maximise to full screen :D

I also tried drag and drop which was flawless but you cant ctrl C/V

Need to play with this a bit more now :)

Nice setup! Do you mind sharing the first one? Thanks!

Just FYI I got g cam working, by just installing the s10 version.

Selfie, wide, and regular cameras all work.

Much better for challenging lighting, and taking pictures of human subjects. I actually prefer s cam for landscapes, and we'll lit photos because g cam can sometimes bump the contrast too high.
