Crap, looking at the videos, that dark grayish navy blue actually looks pretty good. Urge the buy rising.

Anyone switched from stock Android (Nexus/pixel) to Samsung recently? I'm coming from an OG Pixel XL which I got as a warranty replacement for my Nexus 6p about a year ago. Usually I would be all about the Pixel 3 XL but the leaks are really disappointing to say the least and the price will likely be in the same ball park.

I've always kind of wanted a note (I'm talking since the Note 4) but software always scared me away. The specs of the note 9 are VERY tempting and since I haven't made a phone purchase in 3 years I feel a bit more justified in splurging.

Thoughts?

I decided I am going back to Android. I haven't been that happy with the iPhone X and the way Apple has been headed lately. The Note 8 was a great phone and I know the Note 9 fixes many of my complaints especially battery life. I ordered mine at 11pm when it opened from BB. Got the Beast version 512gb, 8gb, Ocean Blue. Can't wait!

I haven’t seen any free stuff at least on O2 anyway.

Interestingly it seems you can only get the 512GB model in black.

Carphone Warehouse is giving a wireless charger with pre orders. SIM free / contracts (including 02) have 512gb in blue and black. Only the lavender is just available in 128gb.

Go for Note 9, the way Google outsources their hardware is pathetic, they contracting under performers to build their hardware making a big profit. Phone can only goes better with hardware, been using S8 plus for a while, the Samsung experience on hardware is the top notch.

I am assuming we wont be able to see this phone in person until release date huh?

On the fence in trading in an old 6S Plus with the BB deal but definitely want to feel it first. It seems the Note 8 is comparable so maybe that will work.

Nice Note 8/9 comparison vid by Tim Schofield here:

Really loving the slightly wider look of the 9. I wasn't a huge fan of the elongated look of the Note 8, of course the difference is tiny on paper but I'm really liking the Note 9 more in terms of aesthetics. It does more than I thought it would.

I loved the Note 8 when I had it,,,hated the FPS location tbh. The Note 9 seems to fix a lot of things for me. Better FPS location, a little wider is good. Can't wait to see what the software camera improvements do.

That’s good then as can’t see that option with carriers on their websites

Not sure why they wouldn't have the 512gb option on carrier sites. I do know EE want £78 a month for a 512gb, 20gb data on their site. Which is absolutely ridiculous.

Software is great, the latest version of touchwiz that came out with the S9 is really solid and fluid. And it's very easy to get a "stock" look by downloading a theme and using the pixel launcher., plus you get a ton features. And Samsung Pay is the best wireless pay system around.

The only downside is updates.

I've seen that it works with magnetic strip terminals. Can you (or someone else) shed some light on that? Does that mean it will in theory work anywhere or am I missing the point?

Yes, it works almost anywhere. It basically mimics the magnetic strip. The only type of terminal it doesn't work at is the kind that doesn't read the magnetic strip until there is a card insterted. Think gas station terminals where you first insert the card and then pull out quickly, the strip reader doesn't activate until the card is inserted.

Wait until release date and go to a T-mobile store. They have always tried to charge me hundreds of dollars for pre-order, but on release day it's always $0 down and just trade in the previous phone.

The stores will almost exclusively carry only the base version, and that doesn’t interest me..But, I’ll still check.

If not, the S9+ and N8 are still damn good devices

I don't know about that, the pre-orders for all carriers include the 8gb version, so I'm sure they'll have enough in stock after realese. Especially since most will buy the base version.

Stock isn’t gonna be a problem ( esp for an Android device at that price point )...It’s just that TMobile B&Ms only carry the base model of any device. If you want a higher storage/specced version, it’s mail only. Atleast that’s been my experience thus far.

That hasn't been my experience with T-mobile.
