I'm not too keen on the note series becoming much larger than they are.
I tiny bit maybe but anything close to a tablet, or unpocketable and I won't buy one.
And I'm almost certain to be a Note 9 pre-order kinda guy.
I'd love to have it a touch larger to set it apart more from the 9+ and to bring it one step closer to a real productivity device. That or give me an up to date version of the good old Galaxy Note 8.0, IMO the optimal format for a S Pen device.

Is this the year the Note finally surpasses the $1000 barrier? In a Hank Hill voice: "I'll tell you what. I rather spend $1000 on a Galaxy Note than one of those newer iPhones."

A touch larger would be okay, for me, it has to be easily pocketable or it's snowing instant no buy.
I always use my left front pocket.

Different currencies but the Note 8 was $1599 here in NZ! iPhone X is $2099 but that's the 256GB.

I would jump on this phone if I didn't have so much difficulty with that edge screen! I just can't use the regular sized S series with that screen, so it's even more impossible with a device as large as the Note.

I still use my Note 3. Although it's only used as a media device backup to my V30.

It doesn't even need to be larger, just wider. They need to ditch that narrow screen aspect, at least of the Note series which traditionally has been about having a huge screen in your pocket. Give me a 16:9 6.5" device and I'd be ecstatic, well at least if they also removed the curved edges as well. Sadly it seems like this narrow aspect ratio is a disease that has infected every phone and we are stuck with it.

What benefit is there by going back to 16:9? It's only going to make the phone shorter and/or wider, and you will get a smaller screen real estate. I agree that curves are not for everyone, I do not see the problem with the aspect ratio.

I actually like the narrower screen, it's easier to hold.
At first I didn't think I would but after going back to my Note 5 briefly, it was day and night.
I'm happy with the screen as it is.
If it gets much bigger or to they implement a notch, I'm out.
A wider screen wouldn't scare me off though :)

I'm sure any electronic company would do the same if they could lol.
I can't believe how much I spend on phones these days.
If the Note 9 isnt awesome! I might keep my phone for more than a year for the first time ever!

The benefit IS to make the phone wider. It won't make the phone "shorter", only making the phone shorter will make it shorter, lol. The issue with the aspect ratio is that you get so much less screen. I'd be curious if we had 19:9 tablets how many would be happy with them? Plus it's difficult to use 18:9 as well, you still have to contort your hand to reach the top/bottom. But what happens as screens get larger? I wouldn't doubt we will be seeing 6.5" phones soon, but to fit comfortably in the hand should we move to 20:9 or higher? I can't wait for that 10" screen that is a 20:2 aspect ratio, I would finally be able to use that ruler app!

But listen, I do understand the reasoning. It's done so you can hold the phone more comfortably, I get it. It's only my personal opinion, I'd just rather be able to maximize the screen size I have. If I wanted something more comfortable I'd simply get a smaller phone. In essence a 18:9 or 19:9 phone IS a smaller phone, just longer, but that's using the same semantics as saying a 16:9 phone is shorter, so neither of us are wrong. Once again I get it, having that phone fit into one hand and be used one handed is valuable and I think the S9/S9+ should continue that trend. But the Note series has always been about having a huge screen approximating a tablet screen on your phone, making it narrower waters that down.

The Note 8 is a larger device. I like the S9, and even the iphone x. They are giving you more screen on less phone. I like 8 plus too for some odd reason but the X is the size I would want, not too big or small.
I like my Note 8, and I have it for roughly 4 months. I do miss my iPhone though and how things works on that device. Only downside is I went looking for some apps I use on my android and on apple theh $$. :(
[doublepost=1522207594][/doublepost]And by the way the Note 5 is a perfectly sized device.

X is a nice phone, that's my daily driver. But the small text is killing my over 40 eyes, I sorely miss my 7+. I'll be first in line for the x-plus later this year.

Not necessarily. They are narrower than the plus models and the difference is visible when you are in Instagram or watching YouTube. Although they don't have a chin with a home button, in Chrome/Safar, the extra screen real estate is in some apps occupied by navigation buttons.

Curious to see what they are doing this year. I have a love hate relationship with big screen devices. Played around with the X and I am debating the switch.

I like the Note 8 being more narrow. It is easier to grasp for some reason than my old 6s Plus, more comfortable to hold, and I don't tend to drop it. I would hate for the footprint on the next iteration to be larger. I would, though, like to see longer battery life, less bezel, and a lighter device. I also
wouldn't mind a return to a flat screen bc I miss using a screen protector but haven't had good luck with them on the curved screen. But I do really like the Edge feature.

Once my screen issue is fixed, I am content with the S9+ performance wise. I may have to use Nova Launcher 6 months down the road, but the Note 9 will be the phone of the year.

An even better infinity display, possible in-screen FP scanner (to me this isn't worth buying a phone for, but I get the hype), 4,000 mAh battery, 6-8gb RAM, 845 processor, even better camera performance, better S-Pen, stereo speakers w/ Dolby Atmos, etc.

Even if it is a bigger S9+ with a larger battery, S-Pen, newer software, in-screen FP sensor, and improved facial recognition, that will still be really popular. The Note 8 was the 2017 phone of the year, imo.

Makes the iPhone X feel really under whelming since Apple's software was bugs galore and lacking major features Android provides: dark modes, PIP, split-screen multitasking, full featured file browsers, etc.

I think Samsung screen's are so good that incremental improvements that keep that price up is not worth it. Most video content available isn't even in 60fps, 4k or HDR.

Camera performance can improve and stereo speakers would be a big bonus.

Putting on my wishful thinking hat, I would love if gesture control was possible using the facial recognition cameras. Last but not least, making their phones snappier would make them perfect as Samsung phones IMO have the best hardware and design.

I like my Note 8. I also like the X as well and have been wondering which model I should stick with. There are things I like and dislike about both.

Software degradation will be remained to be seen with the S9+. The Note 8 hasn't shown that either. Camera performance will happen since it's better than the Note 8 on the S9+. The 4k content isn't really relevant on the Galaxy since it's only a QHD+ screen.

Sweet! Keep the rumors coming. I don’t know if I’d trade my S8+ on this, though. My AT&T S9+ is still stuck on the February security update. But it’s great to see Samsung likely didn’t give up on the idea of bringing an in-display fps to market. I do hope this rumor is true.

I wish Apple hadn’t been so vocal about any form of fingerprint biometric authentication not having a place in the future. And then dropping work on the concept altogether. What a disappointment to those of us who would have found that so impressive AND convenient. Jeez, even making the Apple logo into something functional like an fps would have been very cool. People who prefer Face ID and hate fps’s on the back could just ignore it and treat it as an ordinary logo.

But you just know the people who think that having an FPS on the back is an “Android thing” would have shrieked bloody murder that it was “un-Apple”. Some of those people probably work at Apple. God forbid we should have choices. However, I throw all this salt around with the HUGE caveat that I am giving Apple the benefit of the doubt that it might have made the X too large, too heavy, and too expensive to go that route (logo as FPS).

As far as in-display FPS goes, I would imagine they had to choose between that and force-Touch/multi-touch and decided to stick to the latter, which is understandable. It’s not my personal preference, but I fully understand such a choice and I understand having multi touch AND in-display FPS is asking a lot.

Oh well, well done on Samsung if they bring this to market. I know it’s already been done and displayed by another company. Vivo? But Samsung, like Apple, has the market presence and clout to make this popular.

The large battery is also a welcome rumor. The device needs it. It’s the one thing I really wish my S9+ had.
