I'm glad there's no notch.

I seriously don't mind bezels. I actually like them for a place to hold the phone.
I am the same way. Bezels don't bother me at all.

I would want one that looked like that concept design! Very sleek. No hideous camera bumps, either! I’m so glad Samsung made the effort to make its cameras look so streamlined into the chassis.

Alas, I am taking myself out of the running for one. I’m going to settle down and be happy with my S9+.

My husband and I just decided about an hour ago to buy my sister-in-law an iPhone 8 Plus for her birthday. I’d given her my 6s Plus and it’s worked out okay for her, but it needs a new battery. She is set in her ways and easily confused by changes in the user interface. So, we would rather just trade that 6s Plus in, let her pick out a new 8 Plus for herself that we don’t have to worry about for a couple of years, and help postpone the terrible day that Sis has to give up the home button and learn gestures that aren’t rude ones. :p My husband and sometimes even I tend to take care of her phones for her because it’s just something she struggles to do for herself.

She can’t really afford to buy a new iPhone for herself anyway. Her dog has been really sick and the vet bills ate all of her savings. She already had a pile of vet bills from her other two dogs who recently passed away. She has a soft heart and took on special needs dogs nobody else wanted. So it’s about time somebody took care of her.

(But I’m still on course to get the red 8 Plus. Maybe even today).

Anyway, @jamezr if you go get the Note 9 I hope you share pics, descriptions and anything you can about it. I shall live vicariously through your purchase! :D

If the S9+ is any indication, the Note 9 promises to be awesome! Let’s keep our fingers crossed! :)

S9 plus to 8 plus?
I’m keeping S9+ for Android. For iPhone, since I wish to continue with both operating systems for the time being, I wish to get an iPhone 8 Plus in red. I have a silver one already. I’m going to have the two iPhones, switch between them and hopefully keep them running longer that way and always have a spare around just in case.

I’m retiring from the iPhone upgrade path with them as my last iPhones, possibly permanently. I like iOS very much, but I am not ready to transition to the new hardware style anytime soon. I did try, though. I didn’t reject Apple’s vision of the future without trying. I’m glad I gave it a sincere try.

Just curious do you find it tedious to carry 2 phones around (or having the same setup on both so they work interchangeably)?

Yeah that is a good choice. I wish I would have jumped on the Mac Book pro deal for $700 but I would had to go back to Apple.
Nothing wrong with Apple at all for me it is bad timing and pricing.m

I can't speak for GM, but I carry two phones around. It is slightly cumbersome, but I think it depends on your own lifestyle.

When I'm at work I'm wearing dress pants. The pockets are large enough that I can slip both my iPhone 6S+ and Galaxy S8+ in my right front pocket. But I'm don't carry them like this for very long. It is really just to and from the car. I spend all day in the office. Most of it is sitting in front of the computer. If need to go to a conference room I take my work phone with me and leave my personal phone sitting at my desk.

When I'm not at work I'm usually wearing carpenter jeans or cargo shorts. Both have ample pockets to carry two phones.

I tried moving to a smaller phone for my personal phone (currently a Galaxy S8+), but I had issues with the smaller phones which had nothing to do with their size. I had a Sprint Galaxy S7 that had poor battery life and I traded it in for an unlocked Galaxy S9 which didn't play well with Sprint's network. So I'm back using my unlocked Sprint Galaxy S8+.

If I had my choice I would opt for a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for work, an iPhone SE2 for personal and an Apple Watch series 4. I would leave the iPhone SE2 in my bag and wear the watch to get notifications about any calls or texts.

I realize that none of the devices are available yet and my employer dictates what phone I can use for work. But I can dream.

Yes, we discussed it when the X came out. She likes the form factor of the 6 Plus. She just wanted a better camera and more storage than what was on the 16 GB 6Plus she had originally. Taking her to an 8 Plus will give her longevity with the form factor she favors. She and I are actually in the same boat. Neither of us old pharts are in a hurry to part with the iPhone that's fundamentally the same as Steve Jobs presented it. Gosh now I feel old and pokey.:p

Well I often carry three phones around. I wear a small backpack a lot of the time when I'm out and about. I have been carrying my s9+, my 8 plus and my pixel 2 (with no sim in it). The Pixel 2 is going to a daughter. The s9+ will continue on as is. It has a sim in it. I use that number mainly with my parents and in laws. It's sort of taken the place of a land line.

So it will be the silver iPhone 8 Plus and the Red iPhone 8 plus that will now share my main phone sim. I did that before with my 6s Plus and my iPhone SE. That was a tiny bit trickier because things I wanted on the bigger phone that had more storage, I didn't necessarily want on the smaller phone. So I redid them so that they only shared emails, calendars, contacts and photos synced up between them.

Google services make it really easy to use multiple phones. Even between Android and iOS. There are some days I pick up one of my phones and start using it to post on this forum and I have to stop and look to see which phone I'm on.

With two iPhones that are the same except for color, I will just switch the sim between them. Then it's more a fashion decision between them.
[doublepost=1524376112][/doublepost]
I'm do disappointed in you, how can you limit yourself like this? :)

I'll bet you'll pre-order ....hehe..
:DNo, even I have my limits. I now have all the features I want and need at my disposal and they're all top of the line. I have to draw the line somewhere.

I had a blast trying out all these great phones since 2016. Now I need to stop. I found the ones I want to settle down with.

Jeez it sounds like I'm getting married to them. Well anyway there gets a point where it's too much. I spent the money, I've got the goods, I'm going to savor what I've got. I had good reasons passing along the other phones. Now I have good reasons to stay with these. Even the pixel 2 I don't really want to part with, but my kid will do cool things with the AR stickers and she wants to get familiar with Android. And she's not really getting it full time. We are sharing.

When I had the iPhone 4, I was so happy and content with it that I skipped upgrades until 5s. And then immediately regretted that upgrade to this day. If I could have it to redo I would have skipped the 5s and the 6 plus and kept that 4 for another 2 years. I got tslked into the promise of better cameras but they really weren't that great and I was not happy with either phone.

So it actually is possible for me to jump off the upgrade bandwagon when I find what I want. And now, finally, I have! :)

So wtf is this?? A new S9+ with a 6.3 FLAT screen...? Seems slated for China release only, but still, a flat screen... If they'd release a corresponding flat screen version for the Note 9...somebody hold me.... ping @spinedoc77

Make it a Note 9 and I might consider going back to Android...hmm nah probably not. Still it would be great news, but of course China only, where the truly cool phones live.

I was all about the flat screens and still am, but Samsung refined the curves on the S9/9+ to where they don’t annoy me at all anymore. Well they make it hard to use a display protector but with the cases I have I don’t worry about that anymore. Still, I am in favor of any moves back to flat displays. They’re so much more practical.

That is just a render of the Note 9 so.........that wallpaper might not exist.

Flat screen!? Nah, they can keep it.

Loving the Curved screen on my Note8 - the screen on the Note8 has a larger flat surface area with steeper edges, it's the most refined Curved dispay I have dealt with and I really like it.

My Note 4 looks genuinely old next to my Note8.... Then again the Note8 and S9+ makes most competitors phones look old anyway.

I think the RAZER Phone is a great device for those who hate Samsung curved displays.

That video with the lava wallpaper made some good points about Bixby. It’s most valuable giving easy access to changing phone settings or executing commands.

I generally turn off auto brightness on all of my phones because I find too often it turns screen brightness all the way up and kills my battery. But rarely does it push it down to where I prefer it. I have good enough eyes that I don’t need my display too bright in most conditions.

But yesterday I went out to photograph some cherry blossoms. I’d forgotten to boost the brightness on my screens. My iPhone screen was already bright but my S9+ display was at the dimmest setting because I was reading an e book in bed the night before.

I couldn’t see the display even enough to adjust the brightness again.

Bixby to the rescue! I pressed my Bixby button and verbally commanded it to boost my display brightness. It worked like a charm. I know I can also do this through Google but the press was fast and efficient.

However...I gotta admit, I have more fun squeezing my Pixel 2 and getting Ok Google to handle these things for me.

Bixby is more impressive when it lets me assign trigger phrases to implement multi step commands.

The Note 9 is shaping up to be a beats of a phone. I keep reading rumors of a July release...that would be awesome!

Significantly Larger Battery
Having used the same 3500mAh battery capacity since the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 in 2016, Samsung will step things up with a 3850mAh 18W fast-charging battery inside the Galaxy Note 9. This will be the largest battery the company has ever fitted into a Galaxy Note model and this is necessary as the range’s once industry-leading stamina has fallen away in recent years.
