I honestly don't think anyone is saying you have to give it a worthy try before calling it quits. It's your money, do what you want. The sentiment is more like, "what else did you expect when going to a totally different OS?" With that being said, if you do care to give it a go, 2 weeks just simple not enough time. That's not an unreasonable point. Put it this way, many of us have bad posture that leads to a whole host of health issues. When we're told to fix our posture, and told the proper way to stand and sit, it isn't the most comfortable position. Not for a while. Only after a considerable amount of time with repetition does it get easier. But many give up and go back to what's comfortable within only a short while. They'll tell people they tried, when we all know they really didn't give it the proper time to become familiar and comfortable with the new position. So it really comes down to, "do you really care to take the time?" If not, then don't expect to keep the new device. Again, you're free to do what you want, over and over, but can you honestly say you expect a different outcome?

You have to remember, people only have 2 weeks to return a device, most wont risk being stuck with a phone they don’t like.

This is why I’m stoked Samsung let me into their insights program. I get to try it for a year and if I decide to sell it next year I have a good chance of getting what I paid for it.

Oh I hear you on that. The point is, people also have to remember the reasons they didn't keep the device is the same reason year after year. So I ask, do they even need two weeks to know they're not keeping it? They already know "they can't leave the ecosystem," or "they can't live without imessage." It's the same thing year after year. Lol. As I mentioned in a previous post, it's Einstein's definition of insanity.

So with the Note 9 having a curved screen, is there a specific type of screen protector I'd have to use? Not liking the idea of dropping £40 on something like the Whitestone but is that really the best option? What are people using on their Note 9's?

Anyone think the Note 9 is a worthwhile upgrade to the Note 8? If so or not care to explain why?
I Have both but cannot answer your question fully as I've hardly used my Note 9 due to waiting for my screen protector.
The big pluses I have noticed are battery life, storage and the audio is so much better.

Are you serious? It's not "work," it's learning to use a different OS with different applications. Can you imagine someone going from Android to iOS and expecting a back button or file system just as it is on Android? Millions of iOS users have been able to live without it, but imagine an Android user "trying" an iPhone X, and only giving it 2 weeks before deciding to keep it or not. And the final decision being, "I'm used to dragging and dropping files right on my phone with a real file system. I shouldn't have to work around this, it's what I've been accustomed to doing for years. I expect to do it the exact same way on a totally different OS. I shouldn't have to WORK to make this device fit my needs and expectations that have all been shaped from the previous very different OS I've been using for years." Yeah, sure, sounds reasonable, said nobody with half a brain.

You're vastly overestimating how "important" any of this is to anyone other than yourself. Yes, it's work to try to force a phone to fit into your life if it doesn't fit. Most people can tell within a couple of weeks if there are dealbreakers with any given device, especially folks using these boards who tend to be more phone savvy than the casual user.

I can see battery life. I just got a new screen, battery, and bezel via warranty on my 8 but compared to thebattery I had in my P20 Pro (that I kept for a month) the 8 is definitely not holding par. You could get 2 days on the P20 no problem. Lucky to get 1 on my 8. Although it is not much of an issue to plug my phone in I do like to have that extra charge when I don't have an outlet readily available. You say the speakers are much improved?

I wa happy with Note 8 battery life, the 9 is excessively good for my usage.
I'm doing standby tests with my 9 until I've got the screen protected, without aod, I'm going to hit 5-6 days.
When I switch phones I'll test the Note.
It's not something I've the luxury to do before.

Yes, the speakers are way better.

I think for some there's an endless amount of... playing, customizing, discovery which can be fun, not frustrating. Same ppl who would get bored with iOS, yes?

I like the Note very much. Engineering, work of art, it's potential.

The iPhone X is very nice, but after having S8+ and Note 8 I was anxious for the 9. It was that or iPhone X Plus, and in the end, Note 9 was for me.

Right. As I said, when I see the same people, year after year, over and over, give the same reasons for not keeping that Galaxy S or Note, the feedback becomes less and less credible, and of no help to anyone in the forum. I can't imagine posting regularly in the iPhone forum to give my experience on trying out the iPhone X, and explaining how I returned it in 2 weeks because I just didn't like the gestures, lack of a real file system, no drag and drop, etc.. Then I tried the upcoming iPhone XS, and returned it in 2 weeks and gave the same reasons. Even though on each trial, I'm fully aware my previous grievances have not been resolved, I go ahead and pick up the next iPhone and the next, and so on. Again, already knowing the phone does not have the features that are deal breakers. At this point, how is sharing that experience over and over helpful to anyone? Sure we all have the freedom to do so, but honestly, let me say it one more time, by Einstein's definition, it's insane.

Geez, you guys and gals with your trial periods...

I don't have the option, I buy it and can't just change my mind willynilly if I don't like it.

I wish I could but here in NZ it's buyer beware, choose wisely.
If it's faulty, you can swap. If you decide it's not the bee's knees, tough.

Then again, we have pretty good consumer protection when it comes to honoring warranties and such.

What screen protector have you gone for?

What you're describing here is different than what I thought we were talking about. I agree. If you're making this switch every year and switching back every year for the same reasons, there is no value in anything you're doing or an opinion you'd care to offer on the product in question.

I've been making this point for a long time now: most switchers are doing it out of boredom with their current phone. Boredom is a terrible reason to switch. A smartphone isn't going to make your life anymore interesting.

Just got mine. I went with the "Thanos purple" 6/128!

This is one amazing device. Wow. I'm now wondering if the extra money would have been worth the extra 2gb of RAM.

Eh, depends on your use case but I highly doubt it. The extra RAM wouldn't make much of difference, if any, for most people. Now if you were weighing the additional money for the storage, then I'd say you'd have a decision to make.

No, additional storage isn't necessary. 128 + the SD card slot is plenty.

You're probably right. RAM only helps speed in terms of swapping back and forth to apps that are already open, correct?

Unless a product is faulty or downright cr@p I own my choices, good or bad. I'll either get used to whatever it is or I'll pray for the end of my time with it. I do such massivo research before I buy a phone that if I mess up then that's my problem. Opening a phone and then sending it back because it doesn't have iMessage or something just puts the price up for the rest of us next year. Those phones can't be sold as new again.

Hang on, are we saying this was on battery for 6 DAYS, with 3 hours 41 minutes screen on time?
Merely making sure I am reading all this correctly...
Yeah I guess so, I turned off wifi and always on display but wasn't using any power savings.

I think I restarted the device too as the power didn't seem to be at 100%, but I couldn't say for sure.

The three hours, 41 minutes were me mucking around with the device when I had a chance.

I'll do the same with my Note 8 when I switch devices.
[doublepost=1536149286][/doublepost]
My case still hasn't turned up so I thought I'd take the opportunity to see what the standby is like on the Note 9, it has been on nearly two days and is at 43%.
I haven't really used it, I'll never get the chance to do his test again once I start using the device.

The always on display has used the most, naturally.

Yeah, this test shows the battery start from the top, so I must have turned it off, probably to do an antutu test or something like that...

It's probably worth mentioning that there is no sim inserted, so no drain from 4G radio too.
