Well, my heavy addiction continues... Game of Phones will be the end of me.
Currently owning: iPhone 7+, iPhone X, Oneplus 5T & OP6, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, and as of few days ago - Note 9.

I'm a huge Android guy. Only reason I use iPhones is because of Mac OS. I don't use iMessage or facetime, no one does in my country :)

But I just gave my wife iPX, and I will keep OnePlus 6 + Note 9. Everything else is on sale as of this moment.
While a big Android lover, I usually despise Samsung. They put a lot of bloatware on their phones, and their phones do get laggy after a while. Those are the things I simply can't stand. Preinstalled facebook on a phone is a major no-go for me.

But what I do really enjoy is S Pen. And right now my Note 9 is lag free, and works like a charm. I really like the design, minus the edge screen, and I really like that it is a little chunky.

I will root this phone as soon as possible and remove all the bloatware. And I will try to use it for at least two months. Only because of S Pen, that little thing is a productivity heaven! It's a shame Samsung Notes don't exist on Macs, but the way apple is going, I'm gonna leave the mac world as well...

Keeping just the OnePlus 6 as a safety net, just in case Note 9 fails me. But I do hope that this is it, otherwise I'm not gonna try any samsung phone for a few years at least. Haven't owned one since Note 4, got Note 8 to try it out, and gave it back in just 2 days. But Note 9 is really great so far, so it's not going back.

Congratulations! I’m happy you’re enjoying your Note 9. There’s a very good chance it won’t end up lagging. My husband and I have S9+’s that have been running well since um...February? I have momentarily lost track of when I got this phone. I had a bit of camera lag crop up for a short while but it cleared itself up.

Ugh, I also hate that Facebook comes installed on Samsung phones. I disabled it. I didn’t root so I can’t completely get rid of it.

I find Bixby very convenient at times on my S9+. I don’t have myself fully immersed in everything Bixby can do, because honestly the data mining and marketing aspect of Bixby creeps me out. But I find it’s a convenient shortcut to some basic operations of the phone.

Overall, Samsung is doing so many things right. My problem with them is that where I live, customer service is pretty much nonexistent. I have an absolutely perfect S9+ that I’m only beginning to get my money’s worth on. I’m not ready to risk it sitting idle on a shelf and starting over again $900 lighter on a Note 9, as well as playing the quality control lottery. Without good customer service available, I’m especially reluctant to play that lottery even though it’s actually my perpetually wonky S8+ I would be trading away for a discount. I thought I would be enthusiastic for upgrading, but my S9+ still continues to impress so I just can’t bring myself to do it.

It sounds like you got yourself a winner like my S9+ is to me, so hang onto it and enjoy! It’s a great feeling to have a phone that makes you feel everything is as it should be. A Note 9 that scores high in q.c. is definitely such a device!

Ran into my first problem today. Xfinity doesn’t support WiFi calling on android. I live in an old building and get one bar of service (from any carrier). Not sure what to do. I have 7 days to exchange, but we all know the next iPhone won’t be out by then... I already have an iPhone X that I used on T-Mobile, but thanks to Apple and the modem fiasco I can’t use it on the Verizon network. Why could they have not made one model to support them all?

Sigh. I truly love the Note, and really hate to get yet another iPhone X, but I also like being able to receive calls at home.

Edit: yes I realize this comes across as whining. :)

I grabbed the Whitestone dome while they were on sale a few weeks back. I haven't put it on but will soon. Yes, they are expensive but well worth it IMO (I've put it on my wife's P2XL and am quite impressed).

there's definitely more to the process than a normal screen protector, but there's great videos online on how to do it. Just watch them a few times and watch while your doing it. I think it's pretty easy but just a lot of steps.

the nice thing too is they have a good warranty program. My wife cracked hers and I just peeled off, took a picture of it, and then submitted my receipt (purchased from amazon) and the pic of the cracked screen protector to them. I paid $5 shipping and they sent out a brand new one to me.

My Note 9 is out for delivery. FedEx usually delivers to me in the morning or early afternoon so hopefully I don't have long to wait. I ordered it on my AT&T account since there's no down payment. I'll keep using my Note 8 and S9+ on my two T-Mobile lines. I may look into the Whitestone protector for this phone.

Thanks to AT&T for overnighting my phone. I wasn't given a shipping option when I ordered.

My cheap Aliexpress Alcantara case turned up today..

Definitely not genuine but still feels okay, it's a little coarser than my Genuine Note 8 case but considering there isnt a genuine Alcantara case out there yet, it's not bad for 19 dollars NZ, the original was 80 dollars here.

Apparently it's "durabl e" too !:D

Speaking of screen protection, on my Note 8 when I took it in to a UbreakIfix shop to have a warranty repair for screen burn-in I had them apply the liquid armor to my new screen. It is not a traditional film or glass protector but rather some kind of liquid or adhesive they apply. Anyway, it's very nice and offers a warranty on the screen if you break it. Replacement is only $20. Out of pocket the Note 8 screen is about $250. I can imagine the Note 9 would be upwards of $350. I like the fact that it is truly seamless. You cannot tell anything is there. The cost was $39

Did you receive the screen protectors too? Interested to see what the quality is like compared to the Whitestone.

No, not yet.
I have no reference as I've never used a screen protector on my curved screen phones but have managed to get a few scratches on my Note 8 recently.
I have a protector for the Note 8 but haven't put it on yet.
I'll do that when I do the Note 9, for practice lol.

Would still be interested on your opinion on how it fits... I’ve had my note 9 for a week but still not starting using it as I’m trying to figure out the best combo for screen and case protection

Does those really work? Always thought liquid protectors were a scam.

Not a scam. I cannot personally testify to how effective they are but if they offer a $20 screen replacement through an authorized Samsung warranty shop then there must be some validity to it. The main thing is it prevents scratches. Not much will prevent the screen of cracking of the drop is hard enough and at the right angle.

Samsung really nailed the Note this year. You have to use it daily, in your workflow, to really appreciate how downright amazing this device is. Whenever I ask myself "Hey, I wonder if I can do X on this...", I find out, yes, I can indeed do "x" on this. Battery life is probably it's most killer feature. To have a phone like this last all day long is a miracle.

This.

I switched two of my lines from T-Mobile to AT&T. I avoided AT&T for the past 8 years because I just can't get AT&T reliably during the day at my house so I have to use WiFi calling which takes care of that. I have a T-Mobile unlocked Note 8 that allows me to use WiFi calling on T-Mobile BUT the battery life suffers on that phone unless I use T-Mobile.

I bought a AT&T Note 9 yesterday and it's battery life is just excellent. I have WiFi calling enabled as I have to as mentioned above while at home and I've gone 20 hrs so far with 56% battery life and 3 hrs screen time.

Didn't know this was a thing until now

You can turn the Galaxy Note 9’s screen on without touching it
https://www.sammobile.com/2018/09/06/turn-galaxy-note-9s-screen-on-without-touching

Heck that is cool. I just turned mine on and it works great!

Exactly. I am using my phone way more now that I did with my iPhone.

Yep it's pretty slick. I knew the function was in phones from years past, but they have curiously buried it deep in the settings these days. Solves not having a tap-to-wake function.
