Yep it's pretty slick. I knew the function was in phones from years past, but they have curiously buried it deep in the settings these days. Solves not having a tap-to-wake function.

I'm sure it was circa S3/S4?

Believe it was around the S4 days because I remember briefly owning that phone. It wasn't buried in the settings at that time though. I'm guessing now that AOD is a thing, most people won't need it, thus it's buried deep. For folks like me who keep the AOD off, it's pretty handy.
[doublepost=1536279865][/doublepost]One thing I messed with today that I had yet to use is AR Emoji.....and man, they're bad.....so bad I almost want to use them for their ridiculousness.

They’re alright. Don’t really see the difference between these and the Animoji. They are both gimmicky. The animated gifs it generates are not bad. I have mine still in my google photo library and I’ve used them a few times. They work with any messenging app so are more useful in theory than Animoji which only work with iMessage. None of my contacts really use iMessage.

I have a 2 year old. I think my phone would get scratched and even smashed without a glass screen protector.

Good:The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a big, beautiful phone with top-tier specs including a massive battery and internal storage that starts at 128GB. The new S Pen doubles as a wireless remote for taking long-distance selfies.

The Bad It's expensive and offers few real innovations over last year's Note 8. The fingerprint reader is uncomfortably close to the camera.

Fingerprint reader is so much better, and easy to use, compared to the 8.

It flys. Also runs cooler than my X.

WiFi on Samsung gives me wifi speeds I'm suppose to get getting - iPhone X does not.

Have to see but updates should be easy now based on Treble foundation.

I don’t think it’s fair to knock price on the Note. It’s a full throated productivity device. Its specs future proof of, especially the 8/512 version. It features the best smartphone display on the planet. It can even be used as an actual desktop computer via dex.

This device is worth 1k+. Easily. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t prefer it to be less expensive because of course I do but it’s still worth every penny.

Where I live the 512 GB version is still cheaper than the 256GB iPhone X and the base model of the note 9 is £100 cheaper than the base model of the iPhone X.

You definitely get your money’s worth with the note 9.

We too reflexively insist something is too expensive sometimes. The Note is not a casual-user device. And I think your comparison to the iPhone X is fair. I own one along with the Note, and I love it. But: it’s not the same device as the Note. They’re not even really in the same conversation.

Many people may or may not remember but the Note Edge was a $999 phone on release. I bought it along with the Note 4 that year and T-Mobile never charged me for the Note Edge even though they insisted it was paid for and even unlocked it.

The Note definatly gives you more for you money as far is features go. You get DeX support, a headphone Jack, spen, a larger battery, a fingerprint reader, and MST for more compatible wireless payments.

It’s funny, when the iPhone X came out I instantly hated the price, thought that the only phone I would pay that kind of money for was the Note 8.. after some time (since I’m on the upgrade program) I bought the X anyways.. wouldn’t say I’m regretting it as the X is a great device, but I’m excited to try the Note 9.

To be honest, once I saw Apple hit the $1000 for a smartphone, I knew all future flagship devices would be $1000+, very close to it, or over it...!

Heck, at least other flagships that aren't apple are worth the $1000 like the Note.
What makes it worth more? It can DO more than an iPhone X, but in 3 years it will be an unsupported and lagging mess most likely. Unless Samsung “finally got it right!” this time lol.

Riiiight. Like all those millions upon millions of iPhone users that had to buy new iPhones because a lagging mess of a phone after only 2 years. Leading to multiple class action lawsuits. Such a premium product.

I prefer android phones more than iPhones, but let’s be real. A 3 year old iPhone is FAR better than nearly any 3 year old android.

This exactly. All you have to do is read Macrumors to hear about how bad iPhones get after a few major updates.
People on here are nitpickers a lot of the time

I'm not so sure about that. I have a iPhone 6 that is pretty slow now compared to todays phones. Just opening apps seems like it takes twice as long as a 8+. I also have a Note 4 and a Note Edge that I still power up occasionally and they both run super fast. I would have no problem using those two phones today. The 6+, Note 4 and Note Edge were all the same year.

The 6 and 6+ are probably the worst iPhones ever made, considering their pathetic 1gb of ram. I love android phones, but the vast majority of the time you’re better off on an iPhone IF you are looking for 3 years out of your phone.

I’m a massive Samsung rube. I purchased all of them besides the 5 and the 9 at launch.

S6 was a total flop, then the s7 came out and people were pumped. This was the new and improved Samsung with no lag! A few months later, lag. Then the s8 came out with the Samsung experience and it got rid of the touchwiz lag. But then the lag returned. Now the s9 is out, and people are all saying “Samsung finally did it!”. Let’s see what they say when the s10 comes out. The pixel phones are having issues with lag and not fast charging.

The point is that ALL mobile phones will degrade over time. You’re usually better with an iPhone. The iPhone is simpler and has much longer support from the manufacturer. I say this as someone who has owned one iPhone and close to 20 androids. If you upgrade every year then an android is usually as good or better than the best iPhone, but apple or nothing if you are looking long term.
