I'm interested in seeing the Xs Plus or whatever they actually call it. If it was an over-the-top update that brings it very close to a Note in terms of productivity, then I'd maybe consider picking it up. That would be the only phone for the next year that could pull me away from this Note. That's not what I'm expecting though. I'm really just expecting a bigger Xs with some simple form of split-screen multitasking.

Well, I plan on getting the regular iPhone Xs to go along with my Note 9. This way I have one large phone and one small (ish) Phone. I tried in the past to carry two large phones, but that was always a hassle. I think the Note 9 will do a better job of utilizing the larger screen than the iPhone Xs Plus.

Plus as my personal phone, the smaller footprint of the smaller iPhone Xs will be preferable when going out with the family.

If I go ahead and do a trade for the XS I’m not expecting much. I always wish for stereo audio recording capability and it never happens. No iPhone fans seem to care or notice IPhone sound in video is muted and murky because they never compared it to what the competition has been capable of for years now. I don’t even bother to wish for it anymore. I have my S9+ for that.

I just wish for better modem performance and for it to fit in the cases I already have. If I find out it won’t, no sale.

With Apple I have learned to temper my expectations significantly. Iphone does a handful of things I absolutely need it to do and does them very well. Each year it will do those things incrementally better. In the case of biometric authentication and the convenience of the wired headphone port, they actually take what I consider steps back. It is what it is.

Oh, it might be nice to carry a stubbier IPhone again. Yay.

But anyway I’m hoping I’ll finally have an iPhone that sounds nice on calls and holds the good carrier signal out on the road.

For me, the Note9 is my personal computer. I've got a work desktop, but that's solely for work and at the office. One device for everything that I specifically need for personal use is what I've always wanted, but never been able to get, until now. That's what I've always wanted out of an iPhone, but Apple isn't in a position to deliver such a product, if only for the sake of not cannabilizing sales of their other product lines. I totally get that. Sometimes the needs of a consumer don't align with what a company can offer strategically. I'll be interested to see the keynote Wednesday, but I'm not optimistic that what I need will align with what they can give.

Very well said. You hit the nail on the head.

Though with me running an S9+ and hopefully eventually the Note 9 somewhere down the line when/if I can time that jump to make sense, I shouldn’t be needing anything Apple can’t give. Again, with my very tempered expectations. If it were to be my only smartphone, oh man would I be outta luck.

Having the Note 9 as my personal home computer is something I’d like to try actually, but I’m still waiting for the final piece that would enable it, i.e. Linux on DeX (initially known as Linux on Galaxy). Samsung’s been working on that and dropping occasional teasers since the S8 days and I’d really like to try it out in action. I have the first DeX dock for my S8+ and I’ve played around with it occasionally. I could live with it if it weren’t for certain desktop apps I need semi-regularly, and this is something that might be remedied if I could run a proper Linux desktop in the DeX mode. I’d go out tomorrow to get a Note 9 if they finally released Linux on DeX even as a public beta. For after all, the cost would be easier to swallow if I could skip getting myself a new personal laptop and handle all my mobile computing needs with the Note 9.

Of course I’d be OK with doing the same on an Apple device as well, but they don’t seem to be offering a similarly flexible setup. I have an iPad Pro 9,7” and I’ve tried using it as a laptop replacement, and while it does 90% of things I need to do outside of work stuff (for which I have my work laptops anyway), sometimes even better than a laptop would, but the remaining 10% is extremely frustrating when I run against the limitations. The Note 9 could actually replace three things for me as it’s a phone and also large enough so that I most likely wouldn’t need a separate tablet. If Linux on DeX took care of the app needs when Android apps don’t quite cut it, it would make getting myself a new laptop unnecessary as I could live with just one Mac/PC desktop at home for media server and backup needs.

So come on, Samsung. Release Linux on DeX and make the Note 9 a real powerhouse. A part of me tells me to get the Note 9 straight away, but first I’d like to see that Linux on DeX doesn’t end up being vaporware.

I thought DeX was using a Linux ... "emulation?"

And isn't there plans for full Windows 10 support with SnapDragon 1000 series? My Note 8 with DeX was better than S8+ maybe that's thanks to mire RAM to handle it. The Note9 with 8GB would be worth considering or wait for 2019 midels with SD855.

Microsoft apps worked better than Google's (Excel, Word) so I got Office subscription.

Trying to use mouse/kb plus monitor (and pencil) with iPad Pro is hopeless.

I haven't even tried DeX yet either. I'm sure I'll get around to it at some point. I'd probably rather have the DeX Pad, assuming it works with the Note9. Hooking in straight with a cable concerns me in two areas, battery and heat. I believe the Pad has a built-in fan to cut down on heat. Maybe the thermal cooling system in the Note9 helps with that as well.

I mostly find I'm on the couch these days, although having the flexibility to go to a desk and plug in for a more immersive experience would be an added bonus to the one device capabilities. DeX is definitely something we will never see in an iPhone, because that would certainly cannabalize a certain portion of iPad and Mac sales.

I was really impressed with how well DeX worked. What's awesome is I have a moniter/keyboard/mouse set up for my retina Macbook, where all i need to do is plug in the apple media dongle to the USB-c port of my macbook and everything works.

What's awesome is that, that same dongle works with my Note 9, so I just plug that in and my Dell monitor, mouse, and apple keyboard work perfectly.

What would be neat to see at some point would be something like a laptop without the actual hardware. It'd have a display, keyboard and the body of a laptop. Call it something like DeX Shell. Like the Razer concept where you dock your phone where a track pad would normally be. It'd make a lot of sense given DeX's capabilities.

Edit: Project Linda is what Razer calls it.

Actually the more I think about it, that's exactly what they should do. It just makes too much sense. Put a fan underneath the dock area and a battery to send charge to the phone. Done.

My Macbook is so small and light, I prefer it being a separate device. I think apple has the right idea with iCloud keeping your devices in sync, they should go farther though.

I do like the idea of docking it to a larger monitor though, how awesome would that be to dock your iPhone and it turns into a Mac.

I believe Apple had a patent filing for a similiar product to that Razer project. Would certainly be neat, but not something I think will ever actually see the light of day from Apple though, only because they have an entire ecosystem of products that sell very well.

A DeX type laptop shell thing certainly makes sense for Samsung though with how they are positioning DeX. Imagining a bundle of a future Note with the "shell" to turn it into a laptop experince (which with an HDMI port could theoretically dock to a monitor itself) has me excited, even if they have no plans for it.

Galaxy watches and the sport band I tried are just too big on me. :( They almost fit ok but not quite. They are also too thick. They look great on men and women who are bigger than me. And I’m too old and plain looking to pull off that cool intentionally chunky looking watch vibe. I just look like what I am: a short dumpy looking middle aged mom with an ill-fitting watch.

I can’t say the smaller Apple Watch is a great look on me either. But at least it’s what all the other people with my dilemma are wearing, too. I’m in the herd. :D

My other alternative is a Fitbit.

My jaw has dropped ever since I saw that gold Series 4 Apple Watch.
I'm a 6.3" guy and I'm not too hot on the Samsung watches either. I just find it kind of backwards when a smart watch tries to look like a normal chunky analog sport watch, and it doesn't match their super futuristic looking phones at all. I prefer a square watch face in terms of functionality too.

Actually I'm surprised that the Apple Watch still is basically the only full function square face smart watch around. I've had one since they came out and I love the look aside from it being a bit too thick. So the new ones coming out could be truly beautiful with the bigger display to body ratio, makes it look a bit slimmer on that leaked photo.

So yeah, the smartwatch thing is one point that makes me hesitate going Note 9 over iPhone XS Plus. I really wish Android smart watch manufacturers would have their design departments go a bit more sci-fi nerd here :D

You can connect the phone to your MacBook and drag and drop files. You can also use google drive or Dropbox as an intermediary, upload the files to those sites and then download them on your phone.

If you have a micro sd card, you can transfer the roms there and then put the sd card into your phone.

Btw, what site are you using for your roms? 8 used to use emuparadise, but the don’t have rims anymore.

I'd take a laptop shell with one of those if they made it. Kind of like the HP Elite X3.
[doublepost=1536621475][/doublepost]Who here got the 8gb model and is it worth it over the 6?

I preordered both, unfortunately it'll be a while before I get my 512gb.

Erica Griffin did a comparison, and the 512gb is a little faster. Not sure if the little bump is worth it to you.

I did but I don't really know.
The storage factor is I guess.
