And don't forget the power extension cable that they don't include in the box anymore with MBP.
Simply penny pinching, and a complete disrespect to their customers.
Those are the small decisions that inch that profit margin up and up ever so slightly. I work for a company that gets a 70% profit margin and some of the sacrifices to acheive that are ignorant.

The note 9 512GB is £1 cheaper than the iPhone XS max 64GB. My upgrade is due at the beginning of December. I really don’t think I can justify Apple’s prices anymore.

Agreed, and I am glad I went with a Note 9 this time around. Apple is losing control on pricing and you know there won't be any discounts on their stuff hardly.

So between the (not included in the box) headphone dongle and (not included in the box) fast charging, tack on another $100 or so for whatever model you choose.

The dongle is somewhat defensible. They're two generations removed from a headphone jack. But the charger is just low rent BS. I'm annoyed at the whole thing because the rate of charge for iPhones is now officially a problem for me. I have a Note 9 and a X. I always grab the 9 if it's going to be a long day out, no hesitation. X's battery isn't great, and it takes forever to charge. Now with a bigger battery in the Max, along with a bigger screen, this is going to be miserable.

Not apologizing for Apple’s continued inclusion of the 5W/1A plug—agree that it’s a poor move by Apple considering the cost of the device. Just a suggestion to improve charging without breaking the bank.

Grab one of the 12W/2A iPad plugs and you’ll see a marked improvement. If you’re in the US, they cost $19. I can’t recall exactly but I thought I remembered seeing a test comparing charging an iPhone X with the included 5W, a 12W, and the 29W USB-C plugs from Apple. While using the 29W plug saw the phone achieve 50% (from 0) in 30 min, I thought the 12W plug got the phone to 44% in the same 30 min. The bonus is that you use the included standard USB-A lightning cable.

I’ve been hip to using iPad chargers for a few years now. Even that method feels ancient compared to Android phones.

Seriously: not upgrading the charger this time is the first I’ve ever felt like a sucker buying from Apple.

I agree before the iPhone X I used the 12 W chargers from my iPads. I’ve got a 61 W usb C charger that I use to fast charge my iPhone X and iPad Pro so I’m good. It’s the principle of it though. The 512GB iPhone max costs £1449 and still doesn’t come with a fast charger.

Well if I get a Note 9, that’s one of the reasons I was planning to wait. I wanted to see a price drop or some deal along with getting some help via trade in of my S8+.

Whoa, I am stunned Apple finally, FINALLY gave iPhones stereo audio recording capability. I really didn’t think they would. Nobody but I had been vocal on this forum about wanting or caring about such a feature so I thought they’d never bother. Apple doesn’t ever seem to do anything unless they absolutely have to. Now we’re getting IP 68 and beer resistance. :p As well as stereo audio. This kind of blows my initial plans all to crap. Apple would pick this year when I fully intended to ignore and dismiss them to get up off their dead behinds and deliver.

I figured my Samsung would be my primary “memory maker” device so that’s where I wanted to invest in screen size and storage.

I was getting the XS to have an iPhone that would not make such crappy calls. Interestingly they didn’t make that big of a deal out of the modems. Or if they did they went by that part really fast. Other than that I wasn’t sure it would offer enough to make it a star player in my smart phone team. But now...whoa.

So I have to decide if I want an XS or an XS Max and what storage I want. Probably will still stick with 256 GB.

I have all kinds of heart rhythm problems so I’m for sure getting that Series 4 watch. And I want it in gold stainless.

That’s a lot of $$$. I think Apple has done the unthinkable and knocked the Note 9 off my road map. #%*^ ecosystem!

Oh well I need to just sit down and let all of this stuff marinate in my brain. Which I do have. Believe it or not. o_O

Sorry to hear about your heart rhythms. I am going iPhone XR probably. Though, I may try to find an iPhone X for cheaper ($500 or so) off eBay or somewhere in the next month.

Apple seems to have hit back nicely in response to the Note 9. That Xs Max is a monster.

But it's high price & lack of split screen multitasking means it may not be as good a value for those flip-flopping between Android/IOS?

The only thing that’s mobster about the XS max is the price. People complained about the note 9 and S9/S9 plus being incremental updates. I think the iPhone XS and X s plus are the definition of incremental. Apart from a new chip and Apple’s take on live focus what else is new.

I don't hate iPhones but I don't really care for them much.
I understand they are powerful and have great support but personally wouldn't own one.
The homescreen and icon layout looks terrible imo, what a mess with a busy background.
Is this still not able to be customised?

Anyway, I still haven't really used my Note 9 yet, I'm still just letting it run on standby until my screen protectors turn up :)

7 days, 20 hours with 33% left, 2 hours of screen time....

Still loving my Note 8.

With the current £200 trade-in boost and future discounts, the Note 9 is a steal. No other phone offer as many features, screen size and bonuses like headphone jack and micro-SD card reader.

I think it goes beyond principle at this point. It takes too damn long to charge an iPhone. Look at OP’s Dash charge. A $500 phone dusts the iPhone in charging. Has for years. Apple really is just giving us the middle finger.

Ummm, how exactly? Outside of a bigger display, they didn't add a single thing that competes with the Note in terms of productivity.

Plus sized iPhones have never been productivity devices. Apple's mission has always and is still to serve consumers first, power users and professionals have a much lower priority.

Speaking of productivity. Apple didn't even announce pen support for the Xs!

I guess that will offer it on the iPhone 11 and thus give Xs Max owners a reason to dump $1400 worth of stainless steal for $800 on eBay. :D

Definitely agree here, and that's why the Max is in no way an answer to the Note. At least Samsung knows how to make a flagship for the average user and a flagship for the power user.

Imagine what the Max will cost if they add Pencil support.

The Note plays to its strengths & the Max plays to its.

They may not be equal in terms of the type of strengths, but for those who they appeal to, the beefed up specs will be enough.

I also stated a couple of areas where the Note 9 may have an edge, so there's no need to get all defensive. I'm not here to hurt your feelings...
