Hey I liked the picture that Sevanw posted, so I comicized it for more pop and gave it some HDR.

I prefer android phones more than iPhones, but let’s be real. A 3 year old iPhone is FAR better than nearly any 3 year old android.

People on here are nitpickers a lot of the time
It depends on the person. Some aren’t that bothered about getting updates and it also depends how slow a phone becomes. But again everyone has their own standards on what’s usable. My mum got an iPhone 4 in 2010 she carried on using it until last year as her main phone. Obviously it had stopped receiving updates years ago but she didn’t mind. Couldn’t have used the phone myself it was far too slow but she didn’t mind.

I know people who are still holding onto their note 4’s and still find them perfectly usable.

I’m a massive Samsung rube. I purchased all of them besides the 5 and the 9 at launch.

S6 was a total flop, then the s7 came out and people were pumped. This was the new and improved Samsung with no lag! A few months later, lag. Then the s8 came out with the Samsung experience and it got rid of the touchwiz lag. But then the lag returned. Now the s9 is out, and people are all saying “Samsung finally did it!”. Let’s see what they say when the s10 comes out. The pixel phones are having issues with lag and not fast charging.

The point is that ALL mobile phones will degrade over time. You’re usually better with an iPhone. The iPhone is simpler and has much longer support from the manufacturer. I say this as someone who has owned one iPhone and close to 20 androids. If you upgrade every year then an android is usually as good or better than the best iPhone, but apple or nothing if you are looking long term.
I agree the performance of all mobile phones degrades over time and it just comes down to what an individual user finds acceptable.

For me personally I’ve owned the note 1, S4, note 3 and S5 longterm.

I’ve owned the note 4, note 8, S7 edge and S9 plus but didn’t own them for long enough to make a judgement on long term.

It wa only the note 1 that had performance issues. The rest were perfectly fine. My husband got the note 8 last year in October and his phone doesn’t lag now. It’s still smooth and plenty fast to me.

What makes it worth more? It can DO more than an iPhone X, but in 3 years it will be an unsupported and lagging mess most likely. Unless Samsung “finally got it right!” this time lol.

All the features you get without being locked down. I doubt it will lag at all. That was proven with the Note 8 still not being laggy. Stop this old nonsense thinking that Samsungs lag. They fixed that years ago.

The 6 and 6+ are probably the worst iPhones ever made, considering their pathetic 1gb of ram. I love android phones, but the vast majority of the time you’re better off on an iPhone IF you are looking for 3 years out of your phone.

Here we go with the excuses...they may have had issues, but the tech inside them hasn't changed much. Give it up already.

Depends. It seems that you're hinting at 'security updates'? I would rather the updates stopped and my phone remained fast than ultimately ending up with a tediously slow paperweight (which is what has happened to all my previous iPhones).

So here is a new feature for the Note 9 that most people may not care about, but is something I run into a lot, and today I used it for the first time and it worked perfectly.

I work in air conditioning, and sometimes I’ll try to take a picture of a part I need or the information plaque so I can get more details. A lot of times those parts or plaques are tucked away and it can be difficult to hold and position the phone and then press the shutter button.

Today I ran into that issue, but because of the Bluetooth spen, I was able to easily position the phone and take the picture with my other hand. It worked great, and now I’m actually considering getting a Samsung watch so I can use it as a viewfinder for the camera as well.

Here is how I had to position the phone to take a picture of the backside of this motor.

Run into this all the time just working on my house.. maybe I can use that to justify the watch purchase to my wife.

Yeah, I prefer an apple watch, but being able to use the watch as a viewfinder and the spen to take the picture might be enough to get me to get one.

Have you had one before? It’s funny, I love my Apple Watch but have no experience with any other smart watches. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised if I do get one.

I've used both. Apple Watch is terrific, but I really really love the navigation of the Samsung. The rotating bezel is very creative and makes the Gear/Galaxy watches a pleasure to use.

I had a gear S2. I really liked the form factor, the round screen and rotating bezel. But the apple watch has a lot more support, more features, is waterproof, and the stainless steel model is more durable. The galaxy watch also really hasn't gotten an internal upgrade in a couple of years, and the latest models got rid of MST for Samsung pay.

So, I very much prefer the apple watch and plan on getting that, but after today I am considering more the galaxy watch because of how I could use it with my Note 9 as a viewfinder.

Yea but the stainless models are $600! Apple Watch doesn’t have MST either, and they are both now waterproof.. my biggest gripe would probably be the forcing of Bixby and not google assistant. Very interested to see what series 4 offers even if I don’t get one.

Galaxy watches and the sport band I tried are just too big on me. :( They almost fit ok but not quite. They are also too thick. They look great on men and women who are bigger than me. And I’m too old and plain looking to pull off that cool intentionally chunky looking watch vibe. I just look like what I am: a short dumpy looking middle aged mom with an ill-fitting watch.

I can’t say the smaller Apple Watch is a great look on me either. But at least it’s what all the other people with my dilemma are wearing, too. I’m in the herd. :D

My other alternative is a Fitbit.

My jaw has dropped ever since I saw that gold Series 4 Apple Watch.

Their watches are smaller now for ladies. :) We still have the bigger 46mm, but now they have a 42mm.

I know. It’s still too big for me. :( Apple Watch has been 38 mm and that’s my limit. Even Apple may have made their smaller watch bigger this time. I’m a bit worried about that. I’m small.
[doublepost=1536507777][/doublepost]Oh fwiw, the ideas I’m tossing around now are to get the Note 9 toward the latter part of its run when prices come down. Hopefully still with a trade in of my S8+ to further sweeten the deal. I have to admit getting the S9+ really threw me off course as far as upgrading to the Note 9 anytime soon making sense financially. This is hard because the Note 9 is my ideal Android phone on paper. In the real circumstances, getting it now would render my S9+ a very expensive mistake. Fortunately, I’m still beyond satisfied with the S9+.

I’d originally planned to keep my silver IPhone 8 Plus until it was old and crappy. But I didn’t get around to getting an extended warranty on it. I do have one on my Product Red 8 Plus. I’m not pleased with call quality and how poorly its AT&T Intel modem holds onto signal out on a road trip. And it’s going out of warranty. I’ve been reading promising things about the new iPhone modems.

I still have the Apple Leather wallet case and purple Apple Silicone case and HEX Star Wars case for the iPhone X I returned. Those cases had been Christmas presents. Oh yeah I also have two Otterboxes. That’s a lot of $$ worth of cases. Lol, anyway I guess anyone can see where I’m going with my thought process. I’m trying to maximize the flow of my $$ and warranty coverage so I’m thinking of trading in the silver 8 Plus on an XS, which I hope would fit in those cases I already have.

I’d still be using the Red 8 Plus for the easy-on-the eyes LCD display at home. I’m actually typing this post on it.

As much as I’m drooling over the new Apple Watch, I probably won’t get it until months from now, because I still have a lot of beating up to do of my series 2 and Series 3 watches. They look fantastic. My husband’s series 3 looks a wreck. I thought I did more manual labor than him but I guess not.

That Note 7 fiasco really threw me off and I compounded that mess by going for S’s instead of Notes. I’m just not one to upgrade a phone on a half year cycle so I’m thrown off now by my S9+ not being the dud my S8+ was. I want that S Pen so I hope to catch the Note series wave again later.

Still weighing up what to do here.

I could get the note 9 and get the iPhone SE just to keep an iPhone for the ecosystem.

Or I could.

I could keep my iPhone X, get an S9 plus or note 8 and upgrade to the iPhone X plus.

Kind of don’t want to get two flagships again because I’ve tried that before but it’s never worked because I can’t really use two phones at the same time.

I’m not really that bothered about the iPhone itself, I find other phones more interesting. It’s just because it’s part of an ecosystem that I’m in and I don’t want to break it.

I’m disturbed about the iPhone pricing. Looks like Apple are going to hike up the prices of the X plus. I can pay but the value just isn’t there particularly when you have a phone like the note 9.

I’m disappointed that it seems as though the new iPhones won’t support the Apple Pencil.

A bit scary as I’ve got so much Apple stuff. But to be fair I do have a few non Apple things like 2 echos, a google Home mini a chromecast and a fire stick.
No, I get it. Luckily, I didn't have many Apple things before I switched. I had an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods.

I have an iPhone, 2 iPads, 2 HomePods, airpods, 2 Apple TVs, an Apple Watch and a MacBook.
Yeah, wow, that's about as being locked into an ecosystem as can be. I do have an Apple TV as well, but I feel like that's a separate entity from the other Apple devices for the most part, and the best of it's kind on the market, so that's the only Apple product I still have.
I'm using my AirPods with my Note 9/S9+.
The AirPods work great with Android phones, but my mom wanted a pair, so I gave her mine. I've actually been using the AKG NC60's that were free and I love them. I generally prefer cans instead of buds unless I'm at the gym, in which I'll use the AKG wired buds that were included.

If it was me, I would keep your X, get the S9 plus, and then upgrade the X to the plus. The S9+ is 90% of what the Note 9 is. You will be just as happy with it.

I look forward to seeing what you do. I absolutely utterly shocked myself by finding myself thinking about an XS. I’m honestly not a fan of a lot of things about the design.

And I do NOT need an XS. I can continue on well with my two IPhone 8 Pluses. I just thought it would be kind of nice to get rid of the phone that’s going to go out of warranty while it still will have decent trade in value.

And if the new modems offer any kind of improvement over what I’m dealing with now, that would be most welcome.

Usually I make calls from my Samsung. But my Samsung sometimes isn’t with me. Due to me being dependent on iMessage and FaceTime with other family members and friends an iPhone is always with me, especially when school is in session. So sometimes I’m stuck on a call with my dad while on my iPhone and goodness does he complain. Even if I am using an official Apple case, I often have to remove the case before he will declare he can acceptably hear me.

I can’t remember if I endured that on the X. My husband calls my dad on his X so I guess it’s okay. I suppose I could take my husband’s X but that phone has the ugliest OLED display with massive blue shift like a Pixel 2 XL.

I’d also love to finally get the moneys worth out of the lovely X cases I barely used. So no X Max for me. I also would like the iPhone to be pocket friendly since I would prefer to max out display size on the Android phone eventually. My goal is still to get back to the Note series.

Lol, I keep a terrible unhealthy geek interest in the Red Hydrogen One. My husband has however made it abundantly clear he’d question my sanity and intelligence if I were to get serious about getting my hands on one this year, when I’m in a good position to eventually get possibly the best Samsung phone ever and put myself back into an advantageous position with iPhones.

Thought you would learn from last year lol

Think you will be happy with the Xs plus personally
