Getting hyped up here as this'll probably be my next phone. I don't mind the seemingly non-sensational improvements as I wasn't able to get the Note 8 :p

Note 4 was a great phone. But it was not very nice to hold due to sharp edges. Had mine for 3 years before the internal SD started to give way.

But it is no way near my S8+ in usability and look. All this talk about it being the best (surpassing current galaxy) is just nonsense.
My favourite samsung phone so far has been the S5. I know it was slated but I loved it. The camera was great as was the screen. It was fast and fluid and it was waterproof and still had an IR blaster. Never cared about its so called‘band aid’ appearance

I don't use a screen protector, I work with etching sand, always have filthy hands, keep my phone in my front pocket.
I only have the Alcantara case as protection.
I'd honestly go as far to say my Note 8 has been one of the the most robust phones ive owned.
I've dropped it a couple of times and luckily suffered no damage.
I'm done with screen protectors.
Seriously though, my Nokia 1100 could be thrown at the all and would have survived.
My husband’s note 8 is scratched and cracked but he manges to break all of his phones even his iphone 4 he got water damage and smashed the screen

Yep, that was a "PC in your pocket", although the Note 5 wasn't bad at all and at least had a decent aspect ratio. I really miss the days of Samsung stuffing everything but the kitchen sink into the Note series, THAT is what the Note series is supposed to mean. I have a feeling this slot will be taken over by foldable screens once that becomes a thing.
I really miss those days as well. I haven’t quite enjoyed any Samsung phones since they sealed the back.

Note 4 was my favorite Note :)
I meant to say haven’t quite enjoyed any samsung phone as much. Not that I hadn’t enjoyed them at all!

I only hade the note 4 for a month so prior to that my fav would be the note 3 which I used for about 8 months before I upgrade to the S5.

I really miss the kitchen sink days and having a newborn again now I could do with them bringing back the eye scrolling feature that everyone moaned about lol

My Note 4 had loose buttons so I sent it back. It looked kinda cheap too, but I was an Apple boy back then.:)

I have enjoyed every Samsung I have had, but I do wish they did not seal the back.

Something I would like to see Samsung bring back is the only two things they dropped:

- IR Blaster
- User Replaceable Battery.

That is literally all we have lost

I have been pretty happy with my note 8 I will probably go for the pixel xl 3 or iphone x plus this year though as the note 9 really doesnt look like its offering anything interesting over the note 8.

Are they releasing these earlier each year? Feels like it. Are they going back to pre-Note 7 release schedule?

Screen is supposed to be 6.3" correct? I'm really surprised they are letting Apple leapfrog over them in screen size. Granted Apple's phone will have a slightly narrower aspect ratio, but no one will care because the bullet point that consumers look at is the screen size. Apple leapfrogged over Samsung with their bezel, and now the screen size. Can anyone imagine if Apple announced pencil support ?!?!!? It's crazy how some things reverse themselves if given enough time, with the possibility of Apple actually having the better "phablet".

iPhone X still has more bezel than the current S line to the Note line. I personally don't like side bezels. The X has massive 4.13mm side bezels. I can deal with a small top and bottom bezel, because I don't want that hideous notch. Also, small top and bottom bezels don't affect the feel of the phone when holding it.
As for screen size, the Note 9 is rumored at 6.4 inches, while the S10 Plus is at 6.44. I'm betting the Note 10 goes to 6.5 at that point. We shall see. Although, Eldar Murtazin has said he already has handled the Note 9. He confirms what most already expect, not much different in design from the Note 8. He also added, base model gets a bump in storage to 128GB and 6GB RAM. He says we should also expect a 256GB/8GB RAM and a 512GB/12GB RAM version as well. Battery will be 4000mAh. The usual performance increases with camera are present. We will also see a new SPen with bluetooth connectivity and it will offer a new way to unlock the phone.

The Samsung devices still have a better screen to body ratio. Also I think Samsung are really gearing up for the S10 next year which will be beyond the iPhone X in terms of bezel. Apple aren't likely to change the design of the X for a few years based on past history.

iPhone X Plus is a fake 6.5" though. When you account for the notch it's more like a 6" when viewing full screen video.

The S line has bezels as well, they are right there at the end of the curved glass. They aren't much smaller than the iPhone bezels either. Plus you get more usable screen real estate with the flat front of the iPhone. I love the hideous notch, it makes it that much more functional because now what used to be bezel is functional screen. Hurray for no bottom bezel as well, much nicer. Just my opinion though.

Don't get me wrong, the Note will still be king of phablets. But man, a pencil capable 6.5" iPhone X would be a serious contender. You just know Apple would release something like that with a very strong first party line of apps and an entire developer paradigm for outside devs. They need something like that, and they are kings of taking existing stuff and perfecting it and making it popular. The Note series still seems to be niche for Samsung, while the iPhone Plus seem to be the best selling model.

Yeah on paper, but for me the lack of notch and the bottom bezel make it feel like Samsung has the worse screen to body ratio. I think it's just personal preference, I dig Apple's design more, and I used to absolutely despise Apple's designs with their huge bezels.

I didn't think that was a factor when viewing 16:9 video on a 18.5:9 or a 19:9 screen? If you blow it up to fit the notches it would just cut off the top/bottom, or be stretched. I am assuming the same thing happens on any other non 16:9 screen. For any other app though having the status bar around the notch saves space.

iPhone X just look less elegance and awkward with its non-symmetrical notch, off-centre cam/bump and those yester-year thick silver border.

I can't believe that people are saying iPhones now look more sleek & modern than Samsungs. The X is nice enough but the iPhone 8 is the same old archaic design Apple have been grinding out for years! So what if the Galaxy and Note have a small bezel at the top and bottom, I would much rather that than a notch.

No, the iPhone 8 still looks like something from 2010 with its huge bezels. The X is the one that looks more sleek and modern, but once again just my personal opinion.

I can't get my head around a notch, I really don't see any benefit, at all.
I'm so glad Samsung haven't gone down the notch path.

More screen space, think of it as a free place to put the status bar instead of wasting all the space like a full bezel does.

It's fine for browsing Web pages and in apps. However it becomes a problem when watching videos. You either get stuck with a tiny viewing area akin to having an iPhone 8 or you get part of the picture cut out by the notch.
