To be fair the note should not be called a phone. My dads six year old desktop has a modem in it but we don't call it a phone.

The label "phone" should be reserved for devices that commonly resemble standard phone devices of the last 15-20 years in shape and size.

Well, most people refer to the defination of a word when using it, phone for example.

You think an iPhone resembles a 15 - 20 year old phone more then the Galaxy Note? Are we talking house phone, mobile phone or pay phone? Motorola still had a bag phone less then 15 years ago.

Why are some of you guys not only extremely critical of the Note but continually voicing that opinion? A lot of things I don't like I rarely tell someone once let alone keep telling them over and over again.

I don't have a use for the Note currently but that doesn't mean someone else won't. I think its too big for ME but I wouldn't say "its too big" as if everyone has the same size hand or pocket and you tried it out for everyone.

Strange!

It's called Macrumors. The Topic category is iPhone.

There's hardly a mention of the iPhone.

The Note! It's a mini-tablet with a phone running Android. Yawn.

The Note! Approaching the size of the original Motorola Brick design. Real progress?

Yeah I agree. This forum seems to be made up of people with childish mentality.
Not every device is gonna work for everyone so if it don't float your boat, then don't comment.
Whether you like the Note or not, it is a competing product to the iPhone and it does force Apple to innovate which is good for all the iPhone fan boys.

So stop hating.

you're right, why don't we all tell each other over and over that the iPhone is perfect and then upvote everyones posts to infinity? Oh, right, coz that would be boring. Discussion of competing products is perfectly acceptable.

Back on topic, im very keen to try the Note, although I think even my large hands might be overwhelmed. I use a Titan and find that it is pretty much the best size in my hands, any larger and I wouldn't be able to operate it one-handed. I do have a few friends that could do it easily, and I know they are very excited to try it out. I think Apple really needs to acknoledge that 3.5" is just too small for some people, and maybe offer a larger option.

I think Samsung makes great phones but Android really isn't for me. It's not that it doesn't work well, its that I'm so use to the fluidity of iOS. I loved the Galaxy S II, just not enough lol.

I am all over a bigger screen, like a 4.3" iPhone but anything greater than 5" is a little big. I have very large hands too. At least there are options for people who really do need the extra space.

Don't see why this phone didn't ship with Ice Cream Sandwich? Android 2.3 is so 2011. :)

The Samsung Galaxy Note is a fabulous technology. It's only problem is that it's running Android.

I'd bet money that Apple could do it better. And maybe they will. :D

I will admit, I'll never forget the time this one sale clerk tried to convince me to get an Android. (I had no idea what an Android phone was) Yeah, it does some cool stuff. But you can't pull me away from Apple.

And nobody is trying to but to say Apple could do it better...... how do you come to that conclusion when Android is outdoing THEM!

I like Apple for a lot of reasons but as far as the phone goes, i chose a device that does more though im not a big fan of the screen getting too big. 4.3" is big enough for me and id even be ok with 4.5" as long as the phone itself isnt any bigger.

I don't know if Android is outdoing them. I tried Android recently and it was nice but the one thing that keeps me to the iPhone is the fluidity. I love how everything works very well. Here let me give you some examples.

I can sit out outside on my deck which is about 10 feet from my wireless router and hold a very strong wifi signal with any Apple product. The few Androids I have had couldn't do this. Maybe it was because I had the door shut?

I love bigger screens like 4.3" but I find myself making more mistakes on the Android keyboards than iPhone keyboard. The iPhone keyboard also seems to have better auto correcting.

For some reason my 4s gets higher speeds than the 21mbps Galaxy S II I had. You would think that phone would get higher speeds but it did not.

Why does data seem to cut in and out on the Androids I've used where its constantly stable on the 4s?

Hmmmmmmmmm just my 2 cents. The Galaxy Note looks great though. :D

Not even that. Imagine you driving your Toyota Prius taking your kid to school. Would you feel better about yourself if you'd known you had just bought him an Android phone? ....or an *~Apple~* phone...? *wink wink*

I tried the Android phone twice and I always end up coming back to the iPhone. I never liked the Android OS... I tried but nooooo... Couldn't stay. For me the iphone is so smooth and works perfect. All my music goes straight to it and everything else like the calendar, the contacts, the notes...etc. It just works like it should. Love that big screen in that Samsung Note but it has something I dont like.... Android OS

I'm on my first Android with the Note, after 3 years of iPhones. IOS is definitely easier to learn than Android Gingerbread, but Android is much more tweak able than a non jailbroken Iphone. The iTunes store is far superior to the Android markets, but for me, they have the apps I use anyway. SOme of the android apps I downloaded di snot work. This never happened with iPhone. The Note screen is spectacular and the phone is very solidly built. I'm giving it the "30 day" try, but I have a feeling I'll be sticking with the Note. The voice talk features are awesome, and seem a lot like SIRI, even though I have never used Siri. Unfortunately at age 50, I need reading glasses, and the larger screen is big enough so that I can use the Note without wearing glasses. For me this is a big point, as i hate wearing glasses.
I'm sure I'll enjoy playing around with it and learning all the facets of Android, and I'm hoping ICS is really coming in march like Samsung said, but I am also watching for iPhone 5 and will definitely have a look at it when it comes out. Who knows, maybe I'll go back to the iPhone if the screen is somewhere over 4".

I get a full day's use out of the Note battery, and after using the phone a few times to make calls, I don't feel it is too large( maybe others do??) .

I'll always be an Apple fan, as I am typing this on my MacBook Pro, but I don't mind trying different things once in awhile.

See my experience is the opposite, none of our iphones including our 4S can pickup our wifi signal on my dock or by our pool for that matter. My i777 GS2 on the other hand can maintain 1-2 bars on our dock or in the boat (but that's limit, second you leave on the boat bye bye wifi), no matter what settings or channels I play with on the routers iPhones never showed a difference. Even my girlfriends cheap netbook can pick up the signal better then our two Macbook Pro's lol.

Speedwise, no difference, done multiple speed test on the GS2 and 4S and both are basically exactly the same for hspa+ which is usually 7-9 on the high end. WiFi both are the same.

Stock Android keyboard I don't care for, I use Swype which rocks. One thing I cannot stand and never liked about the iphone keyboard.. editing and correcting is horrible. They need to implement something like what Android uses where the cursor goes exactly where you touch or if before or after a word you can drag it easily and quickly.

if both are on the same carrier they should have same speeds and data etc, any cut off's I would say would be an issue with the device or glitch. Never had that happen.

I can say that in places like Publix, or Home Depot, or Wall Mart (any of those big enclosed stores), even over the years our iphone would either have 0 or 1 bar of service if lucky, but my GS2 can maintain 2 usually. Even in Publix other day gf's 4S showed 1 bar but internet wouldn't work. But my phone worked fine on hspa+ even though it was 1 bar. The iphones seem to work fine though right when near the front of the stores like in the register areas... weird.

In my case it could have been because when I switched between my 4s and Galaxy S II I didn't call AT&T and have them switch the data plan. Was using "data unlimited for iPhone 4s" on the GSII. Maybe that gave me slow speeds? As far as your wifi goes, that sucks. This wasn't one Android phone though. I've had many.

I think the "old" androids aren't for you Matt, but the New ones coming out are right up your alley - U are going to love the sgs3 Matt, and never look back ;)

Trust me, I've had more than enough Android phones to last a lifetime and then some lol. It's quite expensive to constantly switch smartphones. I'm just gonna stick with my 4s and call it a day.

Yes I'm bothered by the small iPhone screen, lack of customization, and annoying keyboard at times but one will never be satisfied no matter what.

I am NO Apple fanboy though so I will add that I think the Samsung Note is awesome along with the Galaxy S II line. I think its great they give consumers options. Apple can learn a lesson or two there.

Yeah, it would be really nice if Google had some way to sync calendars contacts notes etc...oh wait...I use those Google services on my iPhone  My contacts were synced to my new 4S before I walked out of the store setting up my GMail as an exchange account w/contact sync. Instead of using Apple services and having to wait til I was home. And for music, DoubleTwist looked a lot like iTunes and synced my music flawlessly.

Instead of saying some OS can't do this or that, actually educate yourself on what it can and cannot do.
