I was actually take a back by how proud they seemed that they will now support 3 generations of software updates. iPhones get much more than that.
Apple does support their devices longer with software updates. But then every updates slow the device down and spurs people to buy a new device. There has been several class action suits around this as well.

I'm glad I went with the LG V60 about 2 weeks ago. If you compare it against the standard Note 20 it's a much better value. A slightly larger screen with the same resolution and refresh rate, same processor and RAM, same base storage, similar camera set-ups, a larger 5000 mAh battery, Wacom pen support (of course no on-board storage), headphone jack with quad DAC, and a cool dual screen accessory that was included as a bonus. You get all of that and it was still less money than the Note 20.

Honestly if you're interested in the Note 20 (especially the base one) check out the LG V60.

It wasn't my anecdotal experience...with maybe from what I've read the exception being the iphone 6, which Apple hobbled with 1gb...although some say it's fine. IOS 12 has been hailed just about the best 64bit version since ios 7 with better functionality and of course security patches from ios 10 and 11.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought that misconception has been cleared up. That battery cause a dip in performance.

That was another issue where Apple throttled their phones with battery being the excuse. Again there have been lots of proof around this and class action lawsuits and payouts as seen below.

New updates can and do cause older hardware to "slow down" but it's not actually throttling the hardware. When more features and/or bloat gets added it makes the software heavier or more complex for older slower hardware. I don't believe it's being done on purpose.

I can honestly say I’ve never found this in my personal experience, that’s probably because I update my iPhones every 2 years (usually). But my mum still has the iPhone SE (original) and my dad has my old iPhone 5S and both still work fine, that blows my mind when Samsung and Andriods can’t even support software updates for 3 years ?

That’s not to say I’m not critical of Apple, I have been. Hell I was even looking forward to seeing what Samsung had up its sleeve for this event, I was tempted to dabble. However after watching that event i think I’ll be waiting for the Surface Duo from Microsoft. I was underwhelmed by Samsung and their prices are now ridiculous, even catching up to Apple!

That's because of Apple lag it takes them 5-6 years to catch up with the simplest of features Galaxy owners have had several years in advance

We saw that in the Apple event a yawn feast of IOS catch up updates so just as your IPhone is about to retire your 5th update will likely only be 3 years behind LOL

You can’t honestly tell me you actually liked that event, it was cringe worthy from the moment it started until the second it ended.
Apple does play catch up to a lot of features that’s not deniable, however when implemented they are usually done right.

That Samsung event was terrible! Instead of making me want to buy Samsung devices like I hoped it would ( I was interested in the Note) it put me right off.
I’ll be waiting to see what Microsoft have to offer with the Surface Duo.

I didn’t even watch the event... I figured after the Apple WWDC event, I don’t care to see any virtual events... they nailed it. And honestly, we kind of knew what Samsung was doing with the Note20 Ultra. I‘m not really hopeful Microsoft will do anything in the smartphone space, but maybe under Android... things maybe different.

Samsung adding laser autofocus means they admit the famous autofocus issues in their cameras (s20, s20)?

Ultra was the only model that had autofocus issues.
I read regular s20 and s20+ didn't have the best autofocus either. They didn't have the issues of the Ultra but weren't as good as other phones. That's why I think they went with laser autofocus to improve that aspect of their flagships.

Riiiight, so the cringe factor of a presentation is what you use to determine if you'll buy device. Lol

Samsungs presentations are always a bit lame

Then again, Apples can be pretty cringey too, ooohh, ahhhh applause.the best, magical.....ffs..

I tend to judge by past experience rather than a scripted showcase.

Not interested as I’m perfectly happy on iPhone 11 Pro for quite some time though. But I’m curious, has Samsung talked at all about their camera software when it comes to things like taking pics of moving kids, pets, etc?

I’ve always loved Samsung phones but the cameras have just been such a poor camera experience compared to Apple that I just can’t consider going back.

I get a new iphone every year so my new iphone never slows down. But I have large groups of friends that keep their phones for a few years. They all lament that with every IOS update their phones get slower and slower. The games that once played fast now have lag.
But everyone experiences are different. But you have to admit that with every IOS update there are multiple threads and reports by people stating their iPhones slowed down after the update.
They can't all be wrong. It is to Apple's advantage to push out IOS updates for older phones if it slows down phones and prompts new upgrades.
Then I am not just being critical of Apple here....I am an Apple fan....have had every iPhone to date since the first one. Have a house full of Apple products...wring this on my 2019 27' iMac!

Apple holds the gold standard for presentations and production value, although the entertainment factor has dropped a notch with the passing of Jobs.

This Samsung one is actually decent. Its not Michael Bay bad. But I still don't understand why Samsung feels the need to have their Korean executives who couldn't articulate English well in the presentation. Just have them speak Korean and put subtitles on. Why force them to speak English?
