Books I am not too sure about. I am a Kindle and borrow the ebooks through the Library via Libby user. I have not purchased a single one through Apple.

I had also switched from iTunes to Spotify many years ago, but this may be of use to you...

I also started using Edge browser on my iPhone even prior to the switch to Samsung, in part because it allowed me to sync between my Apple stuff and my PC, so that wasn't a hard switch for me either. There are a lot of good browser alternatives out there if you don't like Chrome or Edge including Vivaldi and Brave. Everything but Safari for Android. But the good thing is you can set your browser of choice to be the default browser where with the iPhone the default is always Safari, whether you like it or not.

Yeah, as I said, these are the little things that come with the change of the entire ecosystem, but they can be more-less easily solved.

As I prefer to own my books and music instead of subscribing, I will just have to change the places where I acquire them. Apple Books and iTunes on the iOS devices were just too convenient to bother with other sellers.

It's not that difficult to switch from iPhone to Android. I have done it before. Some people make it seem like it's so difficult which is why they don't switch. There are plenty of YouTube videos that will show you how.

I have a lot of Apple products too, but I don't want to be stuck so I don't use iBooks. I have a kindle to read books. And I don't use AppleMusic. I use Spotify. I try to use services that are available on multiple platforms so I'm not stuck in one.

If I were to switch it really wouldn't be too difficult. I may lose a couple apps and have to find replacements. But it's not as difficult as some people make it out to be.

Definitely, I almost made my mind that if the new iPhones turn out to be a very dull update, I will switch. It will take a bit to move everything the way I want, but I assume it will also be worth it.

I’ve had my Note 20 Ultra for a couple of weeks now and I’m still using my iPhone. The Ultra is set up and customised but what is stopping me from putting my SIM card in full time is my WhatsApp history. I’ve been looking at ways to switch my my WhatsApp history and I’m just not keen on these third party apps as they have been known to harvest your data. I have really important threads that I need to transfer and have them continue but I have no way of swapping.

Any ideas?

So backing up whatsapp and then downloading the history does not work when changing from iOS to Android as it does when you get a new iPhone? This sucks a bit...

You can only back up WhatsApp to iCloud and not Google Drive is the problem and equally, the iPhone cannot read Google Drive for app restores, only iCloud in true Apple form.

First, Apple Music is cross platform--available on Windows, Android...hell, even Amazon Echo devices. Spotify is probably the better overall service but just clarifying...

Also, degree of difficulty in switching really depends on the individual and their circumstances. For me, it would be a pain in the ass and I know, because I've tried a number of times. I use a Mac, an iPad Pro, an iPhone and an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch is irreplaceable for me...no other smart watch comes close to being able to replicate how I use it. I've said it in plenty of previous posts--the Apple Watch on its own keeps me using an iPhone, even if it's not as full featured as a competitor, because the iPhone/Apple Watch combo beats any Android/alternate smart watch by a wide margin.

The other huge difficulty in switching is my family prefers and lives deeply inside the Apple Ecosystem. Ditching the iPhone means losing the ability to AirDrop with them, easily tracking their locations, managing Screen time, app approvals and all the benefits of using Apple Messages together.

Yeah, I know AppleMusic is cross platform now. I actually have it free through Verizon. I did the whole free trial back in the day, but what I didn't like is that when and if you end your subscription all the music you saved and playlists you created just disappeared. Maybe it's different now or maybe I just did something wrong lol? But with Spotify you just lose features. Your music and playlists don't vanish because they have a free version as well. I just prefer Spotify over AppleMusic. The algorithms work a lot better in recommending music to me on Spotify and I like the UI better. That's just me though.

If you're glued to your Apple Watch I could see how it would be hard to switch. That's a deal breaker for a lot of people for sure.

Could you take the contents from icloud and physically transfer it to a Google drive folder for whatsapp?
Does access to these cloud accounts allow you to do that?

Edit : no, it appears you can't, damn.

I did find this though..

anyone buy the galaxy 20 ultra and returning or thinking of returning OR are you happy with it
I love mine. Still keeping my 11 pro max. If the note 20 had imessage and FaceTime it would be a totally better phone than the iPhone. Apple needs to step it up.

I'm shocked that I still have my Ultra. With news that iphone 12 is going to me more of the same and now lack of 120hz screen. I'm giving up on new iphones for now. I did downgrade my 11 Promax to the SE 2020 as a second phone. The Note pretty much does everything perfectly. The only think I miss from my iPhone is the longer battery life and finding a good photo widget lol. ( I actually love the function and UI of Apples photo widgey). I missed imessage for a week then I got over it lol.

Mmmmmm......so Best Buy has the regular Note 20 (unlocked) on sale for $750, and they are offering $650 trade in for my regular Note 10. So it would come out to $100.

The thing is, I have a Fold 2 on order and am really excited about it. I plan on using that as my main phone. The Note 10 which I'm currently using would become a backup phone. Don't know if I want to spend $100 on a phone that would mostly be sitting in a drawer, but would probably give me more as a trade in next year than the Note 10 would. Should I pick one up?

Just order the Ultra. It's a great phone and worth the extra money.

Wow you’ve really gone all in. Are you keeping your iPad or are you going all in with Samsung?

You are a lot braver than me. Breaking out of the ecosystem. Wish I could do it but I’m too weak.
Nah keeping my ipad as I still love it and I use my ipad for work

Use my apple TV alot and still use my air pods with my ipad so will still use that

Just my phone and watch really that's different. I use Google photos so I can still view pics on my ipad

Its been far easier to work both into my daily life in fairness. I use WhatsApp for messaging and hopefully when WhatsApp allows multi device support that will work on both too

Yep we’re the same. I’m actually really unhappy with Apple and iOS 14. And if the rumors are true about no 120hz (or even 90), I just feel like they’re falling way behind to the point where it’s not even worth the money to upgrade. But then on the flip side, I like their services so much. The way my 11 Pro, my Apple Watch and MacBook work together. iMessage obviously, and just the general polish of their services makes it so tough to break away.
It’s a shame because the Note 20, in most areas, destroys the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Not offering a 90/120Hz display on a $1,000+ phone in 2020 would just be a huge oversight, for folks like us who frequent a forum like this. The general consumer won't care, and will still buy it. I'm using a 60Hz display at this very moment, but I don't care because it only cause $350.

The average consumer not knowing what 120hz is is an excuse. Doesn't matter. The point is Apple is charging premium pricing for a miniscule update on their devices.
