I take it you are not happy with the Exynos, I think here in the U.K they have added the base storage of 256GB to try and make up for it. Are you not even tempted by the discount Samsung are offering with Samsung Week? (which is this week only I believe).

Not going to lie, I'm very tempted to order one and try it within the 30 day window. If I don't like it I can return (I don't really like doing this because it's not nice to return something that they then can't sell on as new).

But then I remember that I'm heavy in the Apple ecosystem and how much hassle there might be.
You've been fantasising about phones for god knows how long. Just buy one and try it instead of always saying how much you want to try something.

And I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over returning a product to a multi billion £ company. If they didn't like people doing it, they wouldn't offer it.

I love the battery life on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, I’m guessing the Ultra doesn’t get anywhere near that? For example it’s 3:12pm here in the U.K. and I’ve still got 77% battery life.
I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and have had the Exynos Ultra and you can’t even get close to the iPhone. At the same point, average usage I would be on about 45-55% with the Note. The Exynos really is a dog in the battery department. I would get around 4-5 hours screen on time and have to charge at 7pm once I get home.

Granted I don’t disable features like 120hz - no point having a flagship with the best in class display only to go ahead and disable certain functionality.

Mean while users report 7-8 hour screen on time with the SD and less standby drain.

If you have a wireless charger at work then it’s really a non-issue. Battery aside, it’s a beast of a phone and it blows the iPhone out of the water. Side by side the iPhone (even the 12) looks very dated. Those bezels are just super sexy on the Note.

I often work from home (especially now) I do have meetings with people (editors and so on) but they only last a few hours at most. I don’t game on my phones, I prefer to use my PS4 (and soon to be PS5 that I pre-ordered ?).

Not even remotely close. I go a full day with heavy use and never need to go near the charger until I go to bed, which is around 2300 (its been off the charger since 0500). Even then there's still a decent bit left.

I can scrape through the day with the note just about. I have been charging it in work around mid afternoon to top it up to ensure I don't worry about what I have left.

The only thing to add is that the note charges so quickly, it almost doesn't really bother me that the battery isn't great.

I'm still consistently getting between 6 - 7 hours on my exynos model but that's with 120hz enabled.
Don’t you mean disable? I have read that the 120hz display is a battery hog, especially for the Exynos.

On my Note20U I get around 7-8 SOT but I have the Snapdragon version

Yeah that’s about what I got too. I would. It is that it actually goes down from 100% to 95% quickly but then really evens out. I think there’s a perception sometimes that Android battery is a lot worse than iOS mostly because iOS stays at 100% for so long.

I read somewhere that Apple deliberately makes iPhone stay at 100% for longer. Not sure why, so it gives the perception that it’s initially bette.

No, I mean enabled.

I have zero issues with the battery life on my Exynos model.
My Note 20 ultra exynos battery life isn't near as good as my Note 10 was, but its still okay.
I keep 60hz on as 120hz chews my battery.
I really can't imagine getting 6 hours SOT with 120hz on, in fact the best SOT I've had is 4 hours, with 60hz.

Luckily for me, thats all I need.

120hz on my Note 20 Ultra has ruined it for me I can't go back to 60hz, looking at the screen that was once fluid on my SE 2020 has now become painful on the eye's.

well for better or for worse I’ve just placed an order for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Live Buds. The offer/discount was just to good to miss. I just hope I don’t regret this

You won't mate. Samsung returns are hassle free so there's no real losing scenario

Just don't send it back too early. You have 28 days. In the past I've sent a phone back too early to really try it out properly. Also for me personally, I think you need to turn off the iPhone and put it away so you can't reach for it and go back to it because its comfortable and familiar. Give it some time

That’s the plan. The great thing I noticed is that I could select a day for delivery, it’s arriving tomorrow (Sunday 1st November). I’m going to turn my iPhone off put it away and only use my Apple Watch when I go for a run.

I want to test out the Note 20 Ultra and all it’s features, especially the S-Pen. Then if I like it and decide to keep it, I will sell my 11 Pro Max, then I might get the Galaxy Watch 3 and see how that goes, if it goes well I’ll then sell my series 4 Apple Watch.

I know that there is going to be a learning curve, I’ve not used Android and so a new OS will probably seem daunting at first.

I would recommend changing the stock One UI launcher.

The one that is stock doesn't look very elegant, and isn't very customizable.

I personally use Nova launcher, but there are many others as well.

I read so many comments here about the ecosystem and how hard it is to switch and you know what, guys? This is blown out of proportions.

I switched to the Note two weeks ago and tbh, it was a breeze. Samsung has this app smart switch where you connect your old iphone with the note and all the data are copied - including all photos, pictures, contacts and so on, to the point that when it was all done, my home screen on the note looked the same way it did on my iphone, the order of the apps and wallpaper included. I was really worrying about this switch, but it is really nothing bad. I found some nice apps which work well across all platforms - so I now use Microsoft's To-Do and One Note instead of the stock Apple apps as I also have an iPad and a MacBook. All the music I bought on iTunes over the last seven years was also transferred to my Note with no struggle whatsoever. I still can upload all the photos to iCloud - granted, I have to do this manually, but it works really fast and is reliable. I will for sure consider switching to Amazon's cloud, as I have prime and it would mean not having to pay Apple for 2TB of storage every month... But we will see.

Possibly the only thing which might be slightly inconvenient from my perspective is the lack of access to the iCloud drive with all the files from my Note. But then again, I almost always have my iPad with me, so this is really something which I do not care much about and which makes me actually happy that I am not 100% dependent on Apple now who will do everything to lock you in their ecosystem.

I do not use Watch, so no issue here, but I can imagine that for some this might be a bummer and an obstacle which cannot be overcome... But then again, this goes on to show me what kind of company Apple is and I am pretty happy I am no longer 100% in.

When it comes to other experiences... I have the exynos version, so the battery life is not amazing, if I am on wifi only, then it is fine for the entire day, but if I am on the cellular, then I prefer to have the charger with me. But as someone already pointed out, charging is so fast that it is not a serious issue, tbh, and now I can use the same charger for both my iPad and my phone, which is great. Design is amazing, I was considering how I would deal with a phone this big, but this issue does not exist at all. Actually, quite the opposite, my former iPhone X seems super tiny now. For a short moment I was considering also the S20+/Ultra, but the rounded edges seem so long in the tooth now and the Note is the closest we really get to a full screen display. As also pointed out by someone else, the 120Hz screen makes the difference and iPhones feel strangely slow/less fluid - just yesterday I was playing with the 12/12 Pro in the store and was negatively surprised with them, but I guess it is just the screen with a significantly lower refresh rate. On the other hand, however, I sometimes get the feeling that when scrolling very fast through certain websites/apps, there is little framing, but this really depends on the app/website, so I do not think this is Note's issue.

So with my Note 20 Ultra due to arrive tomorrow, do people have any tips for a new Note owner/first time Android user? (unless you count when I brought the S4 years ago but didn't keep very long).

Should I get a screen protector? I have never used one with any of the iPhones I've owned, I tend to be careful with my devices, however I'm not sure if it's recommended with Samsung phones.
