So it's been a full week and I love the S10e. The size is perfect, the flat display is worlds better than the curved edge I had on my S9, and performance has been great.
This is the most polished android phone I have ever used. I'm a big fan of my iPhone XS, and this feels like my XS. There are times when I forget I'm using the Samsung and think I'm using my iphone. The feel in hand and the feel of the performance is that polished.
The hole punch is nicer than the larger notch of the iPhone, but I'm still not a fan of the thicker than normal notification bar that is still needed to compensate. I actually would've preferred Samsung used the Infiniti v display instead.
The fingerprint reader on the side though has been a bust for me. It works really well and is very fast, however I don't like the position. It's a bit too high up to use comfortably with my right hand, and with my left its awkward wrapping my index finger around to reach it. I also miss the swipe down gesture, yes i know it's still there, but it is so much easier to accidentally activate when holding the phone in landscape, I had to disable it. Wish they had stuck with the rear fingerprint reader. Facial recognition is fast, though it's not that secure. My son actually fooled it once, guess his face is close enough to mine. FaceID is the gold standard, and this falls short, but the convenience is worth it to me. If security is very important to you, I would recommend to avoid it.
Battery life has been very good, gets me through the day with about 6hrs screen time. I have not had to worry about it. Screen is beautiful, sharp with wide viewing angles and very accurate colors. Tiny gripe, I wish they had gotten the bottom bezel to match the top. Not a big deal, but I do wish it was symmetrical.
Those are really my only gripes, everything else has been excellent. It really feels like my iPhone XS, but with added features, such as DEX, microsd, headphone jack, wide angle lens, reverse wireless charging, a true file manager, emulator support, live wallpapers, more customizations, multi-window, picture in picture, and usb-c. All for $250 less than my iPhone.
I've always maintained over the years that even though Android and Samsung have come a long way, if I was only allowed one phone, it would be an iPhone. And the iPhone XS has until now been my favorite phone ever. However, the S10e is right there. It's a toss up on which phone I would pick, with the only advantage of the apple ecosystem (iMessage, facetime, icloud, faceid, and iTunes) in apple's corner.
Now please Samsung, make a Note 10e.
