What is the actual battery saving from disabling AOD?

My battery doesn't seem too great on the S10 Plus and I'm now on my third due to pink hue and dead pixels. Thankfully, my third device has a perfect screen.

This morning, whilst staying in a hotel, I had 1-2 bars on both sim cards and I dropped from 97% to 91% with about 15-20 minutes usage. Maybe it's not ideal on the battery with two sim cards searching for a better signal.

I've noticed a difference so far today but hard to measure until the end of the day

I didn't even have increased sensitivity turned on for the FPS. Let's see if that makes a difference. Strange that while setting it up I always get asked to press my thumbs harder. But my index finger reads lightly.

The Active Watch releases here on Thursday.

Kinda tempted to pick one up. I am off Thursday, Friday this week so may nip into town and try and check them out.

It isn't that I'm missing the function of a smart watch, I think I just miss wearing one in general. I liked the versatility of my Apple Watch for dressing up / down and seems I could still do that with the Active with all of the bands that are available.

I don’t think I could use a phone without a smart watch ever again. I’m liking my galaxy watch so far and to my surprise have not missed the apple watch as I still get all the things I had before which was calls/texts/notifications/fitness/music and apps for sport scores. What I love is the always on display on the galaxy watch and how notifications come through on the watch without me needing to look at my watch to see what they are.

No. This is under the device care battery usage section of apps I’ve used since charging. But if I open sky news to read for say 5 mins and the close it (not force close), it can be using battery in the background. Same with outlook. I get tons of emails on various accounts, I don’t need it searching for emails all day and giving me notifications every few mins. So it just checks when I open it and won’t run in the background.
I used to have a problem with various news apps causing my iPhone Xr to overheat. I at first thought there was a problem with my phone. I found these same apps, to a lesser degree (took longer and the temps weren't quite as hot), would eventually warm up my Android phones, too. I'm not sure exactly what is going on with news apps, but I've given up on them and use the websites with my ad and pop up blockers employed. I used to enjoy checking out real estate on the Realtor .com app but I noticed that drained battery fast and warmed up the phone. Well sure enough MR published that article about the apps that were feeding our data to Facebook and this app was one of them. I took it off my phones.

I'm frankly getting a bit disgusted with the battery drain and data paths to Facebook some apps are sneaking onto phones on iOS and Android and I'm starting to go back to accessing their content via my fortified browsers.

Mom wanted an iPhone, so Verizon had a device payment plan sale on the 6s+. She loves the look and feel of her first smartphone.

Me, I looked longingly at the Samsung s10e while at the Verizon store picking up mom’s phone. If I ever go back to Android though, I will pick up on sale at Best Buy (No trade ins, device payment plans again. This experience with Verizon hasn’t been pleasant).

I hope everyone is enjoying their s10 phones or whatever phone they decided upon. I hope Apple follows Samsung’s suit and gets rid of the notch. I just cannot roll with that and the high prices/build quality (Cannot roll with Samsung’s prices either, but those go on sale so...)

@GrumpyMom glad to hear GrumpyHubby is doing well with his s10+. Sorry your Xr is still...:(
Thank you. I hope your mom has much success and enjoyment with her new iPhone.

My Xr is pretty good in most respects so I'm actually happy with it. I'm gradually finding out that some apps are just not very trustworthy and are siphoning information off to FB or hogging resources they shouldn't. As I remove them and go to the web based functions it gets better. Fewer instances of turning my poor Xr into a mini furnace. There's actually a good chance this phone sticks with me for two years.

I found that the Twitter app would heat up my iPhones so I stopped using that pretty quick. I always access via the web.

Now the siphon business :mad::rolleyes: doesn’t surprise me, but I am glad you’re taking steps to avoid data siphoning and damage to the phone (and your browsing activities).

At any rate, glad your phones are working well for you. Fingers crossed the Samsung gets to you soon.

Jitterbug are taking their slow as molasses time to port my mom’s number over to Verizon and there’s another delay. So she has to wait until tomorrow night.

Usage wise I think battery life has been better with AOD off. on 45% at 17:10 after taken off the charger at 6am. Granted screen on time is only 1 hour, 40 mins usage but least it's not draining badly on standby. That was more my issue than the screen time which is always going to be far better on wifi anyway.

I've been all over the internet trying to pick up some battery life impressions of the different models. A lot of people are saying all the Exynos variants are getting poor battery life. I find that strange as I thought Exynos was the better processor. In the US we used to despair that we didn't get Exynos.
I stopped watching battery life a couple of gens back :) as long as I get home after work and there is more than 40% I'm good

I have an Exynos version and I would say generally the battery life is far better than my S9+/Note 9 and with Pie I have the AOD on too with my LED case :) so its not an issue as I choose by leaving the case open if I want to see the AOD

Yep have the same thing from day one, put it down to my imperfections not the S10+ :)

Got my S10+ about an hour ago, and two snap reactions right off the bat, about the two most important things that mattered to me.

First, the FPS is good after testing it and really taking a little time to keep trying it over and over again to teach myself. It's not perfect, yet, but I'm already figuring it out. I took that very poor pre-installed screen protector off. Second, gestures at first are weird, but seem fine. Something else I'll have to get used to.

Now, to go tweak the million settings I have at my disposal...

Once you leave iOS, it’s so different having more versatility and customization at your disposal.

This is the best display my eyes have ever seen. Samsung is definitely utilizing some new subpixel calibration techniques. Maybe taking a page from Apple's book on that front. Looks incredible.
[doublepost=1552851720][/doublepost]On another note, it's been a long time since I had a phone with carrier bloatware on it. Jesus Christ AT&T. It's worth it though for Wifi Calling and HD Voice though.

I think I'm going to pick up the navy Samsung leather case later. I've always been a huge fan of the Apple leather cases, and the Sammy one looks pretty much like replicas haha.

Tis a good choice!

Really considering picking some other colours up as I love this case.

At the moment though, the navy looks really smart so I might just ride it out with that until I fancy a change.

Well, damn, if I wasn't sold on it before...I'm heading out in a bit to get it. Thank you! :D
[doublepost=1552858157][/doublepost]This phone does NOT feel as big as it is. The 3XL and XS Max seem almost unwieldy by comparison. Must be the narrowness of it.

Anyone tried Adaptive Power Mode?

"Coupled with Android Pie's other power management features, users are reporting some remarkable battery life improvements since enabling Adaptive Battery. As someone who prioritizes battery capacity above all else, I'm looking forward to joining the club ... as I have only just started using Adaptive Battery on my Pie-updated Google Pixel, it's too early to say if there's been any marked improvement.

As battery battery capacity is often the kind of thing people only pay attention to if it's discharging at an abnormal rate, it's possible you'll never notice Adaptive Battery in action, but that's half the point — it does its job silently in the background, meaning less time spent worrying about howyou use your phone and more time actually using it."

Edit: for some reason, Samsung disables this out of the box but it offers dramatic battery improvements: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...ill-drastically-improve-battery-life-0194598/

Is it less slippery than the apple ones?

Yeah I've got it on

Think any battery saving settings to save battery is worth doing

It is a little slippery yes, but not as much as the phone being naked. I do find it easier to keep hold of now I have this case on and I can leave it on the arm of the sofa and not worry about it sliding off like a bar of soap.

The beauty of the leather cases is they wear which toughens them up grip wise, and adds a nice look!
