So are you keeping your S10 now?

I've really found a groove with it.
The only thing I dislike (and this isn't a phone criticism) is how Android doesn't play with my car.

With iPhone I get steering wheel controls and album artwork on the media display through Bluetooth, with Android you get none of that not even wired.

They're the little things that I miss, but overall I love this S10.

I think I will end up keeping it as there is virtually nothing I'm missing about my XR other than having a yellow phone. :D

How is the battery life on the Snapdragon S10 regular? I think that will end up being my next device because it's not as pricey as the + model.

Grr, the next time there's a pre-order with trade in and they queue the orders up like this did this time, I'm ordering all of them!

Well maybe not. I got to try the Samsung wireless earbuds last night. Wow, they sound great to me.

My husband had just said they were "meh" and likes Airpods better. Well I sure don't. I should know never ever ever to listen to him about anything to do with audio because he and I have completely opposite views on what sounds good.

Anyway, I can't even use Airpods because they hurt my ears and severely aggravate my tinnitus. I have no such issue with these Samsung ones. In fact I find them quite comfortable. Unfortunately they're no longer part of ordering packages.

I liked the S10 much better in terms of size. And I have the 512 GB model ordered. My husband is ridiculously not happy about that and is calling me all kinds of idiot for paying so much extra for storage I won't use. We have the money, it's the principle of the thing.

My pre-order of the S10+ comes with the wireless earbuds. It's 128 GB, which Grumpydad considers sensible. Because I am getting the bigger battery, free earbuds, and cheaper storage option this pre-order is the better financial choice. I just don't like the size of it.

To add to my indecision, I find I often have to lick my finger to unlock his damn phone. It works perfectly, but if it stays this course I won't be able to unlock the phone in winter.. Also that's just gross. That makes me think I should get the S10e. But I don't really want to lose the 2x telephoto lens, because I take too many photos of animals and sometimes you can't get too close or they stop doing whatever interesting things you're trying to photograph.

Anyway it will all definitely keep my mind occupied this weekend, which isn't the worst thing because I'm doing a lot of tedious spring cleaning.

Edit: I just checked and our Amazon account has enough points accumulated so I can get the earbuds free from them if I decide I absolutely want them .

My experience is .....

From the display off, you have to tap the sensor slightly longer.
From the lock screen, (meaning the display is on) it's lighting fast to unlock.
From the display on and unlocked, using the FPS within apps, unlock the secure folder, using Samsung Pay, and etc, is lighting fast.

So yes ...... to unlock from the display off, it is slower than a traditional FPS.
Is that also in part due to the security is also improved with the new FP :)

Quickly skimming down the page the photo of the dex station looks like a black toilet bowl
LOL thats because its the older version the newer DEX pad is a bit more sleek and allows you to use your screen as a track pad thus eliminating the mouse requirement

Wow, there is so much bias in that S10e vs XR comparison on the main news page. I honestly didn't know people consider iOS more versatile than Android or that an ecosystem is needed to have software versatility. I also learned today that there are no "high-end Android apps" in some iOS user minds.

I am glad this side of the forums are more open-minded towards Sammy, Google, and other Android OEMs.

Pics were taken bathroom so I can test in complete pitch darkness.

Samsung Default ....

20190316_142910.jpg

GCam .....

20190316_142910.jpg

Both software had me holding the phone still. With GCam, I had to hold the phone still for twice as long.

At 100% viewing on my monitor.
GCam is brighter and sharper with plenty noise to the upper left. It shows the best brightness and detail on the rug.
Samsung is less brighter and much softer with also plenty noise to the upper left. Less brightness, detail, and more noise on the rug.

So given pitch black test, I can understand why GCam is better at night shots outside when it has some light to work with. One issue that I don't like is, you can't manually select "Bright Night". The scene optimizer has to detect the when it's right, and does a poor job at detecting when to use "Bright Night". GCam lets you select "Night Shot" whenever you want.

I think it's so it won't try to register in your pocket over and over. The FP is basically semi sleep.

I am not sure what to do here in terms of phone resale value. My indecisiveness cost me about $50 on Swappa in terms of resale. I could easily keep the S10e and make about a $100 in my pocket for switching. However, Galaxies also tank super early, right?

Could I get to a point where my iPhone XS Max would be worth as much as the S10 or S10+? It would be wise to stick to my iPhone just based off resale value alone?
Not really you have to look at the total cost of ownership including accessories etc bundled deals promotions and trade in values cloud storage 3 or 6 months spotify etc etc along with those that are also selling with AC

When you add it all up it is the sum of nothings delta comparisons for most on a like for like basis and the early adopters are normally better off

There are always exceptions where some had a super promo code or something or like my son who bought a Samsung 9 series TV and got a free S9 that he will sell on under market value

Well, that is a consideration, but I wanted to make it more simplistic. More like a trade, except I sold a phone for X and I paid X for another phone in a separate transaction.

It’s more $ in $ out to me. I was doing research and noticed Swappa had an iPhone X for $640 in good condition vs $390 for a Note 8 in the same condition.

That tells me my iPhone will depreciation slower than a Galaxy. At some point, the S10 series on the used market should be worth slightly less than my iPhone on the same market.

Yes but that way you would be ignoring the fact that most early adopters get circa $200 of bundled goodies or if you buy mid cycle you often get $200 promo off, which you imply you do :)

Like now if you got the free buds worth $130 you could sell them for $100

For many others who got a free case worth $45 Apple equivalency or fast Charger $60 and so on

If you can put up with a bare bones IPhone then maybe the delta falls in Apples favour but the vast majority will be buying some accessories for their IPhones so the balance soon shifts to a relatively neutral position

Samsung tends to give a complete package for less than a bare bones IPhone with it's stealth after costs that most opt for

So any thoughts on better IPhone resale is often negated not to mention the perceived better sales is very much country specific

I’ll probably aim for the trade in promo with $200 off with any phone. I have an old Android sitting around that could be good trade bait. I think they normally doc off $100 off the price, so it could be $300 off. $599 for the S10 and I sell my XS Max for $700?

I’ll take that deal.

SOT is overrated. As long as your phone works from when you wake up to bed time, that’s all that really matters.
That's true to a certain extent. But if you've only been using the phone for less than 3 hours, it's a little disappointing.

That's not good SoT for a plus.
I get way more than that on my normal S10 and on my XR.

This is today's.

It's fine on wifi where it lasts me all day and get close to 6 hours screen time

Likely the amount of widgets I have.

I have downloaded power battery app to see what might be causing it

Random question looking at your screenshot, but is moving the status bar clock over to the right an option with One UI, or did you have to do something special?

It's an option within Good Lock which I think is a Samsung app? But could be wrong. Someone with more knowledge on it would be able to confirm. :)
