The thing is that using dark mode actually helps to save battery...
Yes, I said that myself a few responses ago. Look, the original comment reads poorly and I acknowledged that. Then, in a follow-up response, I said dark mode saves battery....but I don't want to use it all the time. Anyhow, moving on... no need to continue whatever this is.

I didn't say that? It saves battery if anything. Some folks run night mode all day for that purpose.
[doublepost=1553139263][/doublepost]I just discovered tonight that "auto optimization" is a thing.

Hi guys,
I’m the owner of a galaxy s10+ but i’m returning to the iphone XS max.
Here some of my comments (i’m trying to be as objective as possible).

Design
The s10+ feels much much lighter than the xs max and the design and color is amazing. S10+ wins very easily.

Screen
The screen is beautiful but i couldn’t notice much difference of quality with the xs max. Also, with the curve (edge) i found myself opening apps or options that was not intended to. Trying to use it with one hand is almost impossible without again opening apps or options because of the edge part (i even install a third party app to reduce the zone of the touch).

Photo
I had both phones when it happens so i could compare. I was very disappointed by the s10+ as for instance i tried a selfie in my home with some sun light going through the window and while the xs max didn’t show any of it, the s10+ image was ‘obstructed’ by the sun light. You could see that the sun light was passing through the room.

The other photo was with the main camera, trying to take a picture in my living with lights on the wall. While on the xs max you could see the light on the wall, in the s10+ the light was like a fire ball.

Audio
Xs max wins easily but i already read that speakers on the iphone were much better.

Lock screen
Finger print for me worked very well as well as face id. I found face id much quicker than the xs max.
The only disappointment is that to wake up the screen of the s10+ you must double tap or press the power button while on the xs max one tap is enough.
I found that one tap to wake up the phone was slow, not responding right away.

Android
I found the scroll down too rigid while on the xs max the scroll down has some inertia and so it doesn’t stop as soon as you stop touching the screen (scrolling)...
Also i found that for example some times the scrolling was not responding especially when scrolling continuously. It happens one time each four touch to scroll down.

I really want to love the s10+ but there’s so much to sacrifice and not much to gain.

Nope can't really say I have seen any adverse impact, try setting 2nd sim manually to 3G only
Thanks. I've disabled the 2nd sim card for today and will see if it makes a difference.

I also use multipack wallpapers for the block screen. I've switched to a change every 6 hours - will monitor for today.

I wonder if there's a bit of quality control variance at work. I have seen some people complain about twitchy edges and bad photo quality but many/ most? don't. My husband has been really in love with his S10+ so far and the photos have been beautiful. But he's got one of the XS Maxes with terrible connectivity, so he's not inclined to miss it.

Curved edges just need to stop, in my opinion. I tolerate them, but I think they are annoying and impractical and add glare at the sides of the viewing area. If they annoy me enough this go around, I will send mine back and try the S10 E.

Everything else that bothered you is negligible to me at this point, because I've been so used to Samsung phones now I don't really notice them that much. But when I was freshly off iPhone I do recall a bit of adjustment to less fluid scrolling. It is indeed especially bad on Samsung phones. It gives iPhone users in particular the impression there's lag or some other problem going on. But no...it's just the way Samsung rolls. :p

My Pixel 3XL scrolls almost as smoothly as my iPhone does and animations when navigating my home screen are fast and fluid. If they can ever get their quality control up to standards, they're a good one for Apple users to try. I don't necessarily recommend them now, though. They've come very far on Pixel 3XL but still have some things to refine about their experience.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. The pre-order deals are always just about impossible to resist, but sometimes the first wave of the rollout needs some fine tuning. Especially when Samsung changes something significant.

Like Apple, they usually have an "S" generation that refines everything they introduced in the first generation. But then customers and whiney reviewers moan that they didn't change enough and it's not worth buying. There are some writers on a certain site I read that do this like clockwork and I want to reach through the screen and pinch them. ;)

My S9+ is one of, possibly the best phone I've ever owned and I was so frustrated with the reviews that misrepresented the significant updates they made over the S8 . For some reason, they acknowledge it now, after so much damage was done to sales. You can't convince me now these reviewers don't follow a formula in writing their articles.

I would be keeping my S9+ if not for the fact Samsung was very stingy on the onboard storage they gave the US AT&T model. Mine is 64 GB and 128 is my minimum comfort zone for a phone. Even with an SD card. And being offered $550 on trade for it is hard to turn down. I get a bit bervous hanging on to a daily use phone that's past its warranty. So I tend to trade in every year before the warranty is up.

My Pixel 2 has a two year warranty so I'm comfortable keeping it around. Same with my 8 Plus with Apple Care Plus on it.

It appears my battery concerns are no more after yesterday's factory reset, and night mode doesn't turn on until sunset, so I'm not utilizing dark mode all-day as a means to save battery.

That's impressive numbers. Are you using the regular s10 or the Plus?

Might be useful until you get to switch. Turn the edges panel off and turn lift to wake on in Settings. Then 2 of your problems will go away.

And you're still registering accidental touches and having to tap the screen?
Yes I don’t doubt that’s the case. There are some reports on other sites like Android Central of this being a problem for some people. It’s hard to say if it’s just the way people are holding them (like people used to holding an iPhone or Pixel) or if some of the phones are just different and more touchy. After a couple of years of edges I’m used to them and adjust my hold accordingly. It helps I use the Samsung cases that have covers on them and it gives me some extra material to grip.

I believe this is how people use the phone. I guess using another case than one provided by samsung could also help, i faced the same problem with the s8+ and the case helped a lot.
My feeling with samsung and android is that you always have to find a way to hack all the issues ahah

Yes especially with one hand... I installed a third party app and it is much better but still.
You can always install Samsung Good Lock from the galaxy store, and inside the app, click on Family at the bottom, and choose to install EdgeTouch. This allows you to set specific zones that don’t allow it... might help you out. And it’s first party, so there’s a chance it will work better...

Day one into no S10.

Missing it already.
Nice having my Apple Watch back on, but already the annoyances of iPhone are rearing their head.

Biggest annoyance is getting in the car and Apple Music auto playing my entire playlist (of around 5000 songs) in alphabetical order.
So always the same song that comes first alphabetically.

I DO NOT want it to do that. But it ALWAYS does it. Every time I get in the f*"£%$£ car!!
DRIVES. ME. INSANE.

So then I'm having to get the phone out, scroll to my play lists, choosing to play that. Every time.

Anyway, I'm off work at the moment as I have holidays to take up and tomorrow I'm off shopping with a friend and where we're going has a Samsung store.
I haven't had the refund for my S10 yet as it only got collected this morning (the guy woke me up he arrived that early!), and I can see myself being tempted to just buy one there if they have stock.

My only issue would be colour. I had a black S10, which I liked but I think I prefer the silver 'rails'. I don't think I want black in the Plus. I was never struck on the white but that's the one I'm leaning to. As much as I like the green (and it is gorgeous) I don't think I want a green phone.

I'm typing random thoughts now, so I'll stop. :D

That’s good to hear actually. I went from the Pixel 3XL to the iPhone XR and while the XR is great, it’s boring. I’m thinking about picking up the Galaxy Watch Active if I choose to keep my new S10+. Giving it the 10 day challenge starting tomorrow!

Day 7 into the S10e. Battery drain has been worse than I expected but I'm still getting through the day with over 25% left so it is tolerable. I continue to love everything else about the phone, it's the perfect size. I used a headphone jack to listen to music last night for the first time in over a year. Now that I have lossless FLAC files on my phone, why not.

I'm using my XS for work email and VOIP calls...man...even though iOS is bland I just miss the fluidity and fewer steps / swipes to get things done, the overall experience. With the Pixel 3 XL and S10e I still oftentimes press buttons with the side of my face when on a call. Somehow I enabled do not disturb, vibrate, hung up on the call, and flashlight all at once, amazingly. This has never (rarely?) been an issue on any iPhone I've used. You all know the feeling I'm describing so I won't get into it. From a value and killer features perspective, it doesn't get any better than the S10e in my opinion. Samsung hit one out of the park. I enjoy it much more than the S10+. But all these little things keep adding up over time (on any Android) and start to pull me back toward the iPhone. As I'm sure happens to almost everyone posting here haha.

I just signed up to try Freshly meal delivery service yesterday. Of course they only have an app on iOS and not Android. Why would they...the little things...

I can definitely understand where you're coming from with my own past experiences. I would counterpoint specifically though that it's all of the little things (or lack thereof) that eventually send me elsewhere when I'm using iOS. There are so many things (most small in nature) that iOS lacks in terms of usefulness for myself personally. Whether it be certain settings options, or productivity features, etc.

One UI changes the game completely for me. It's the most polished Sammy's software has ever been. It's streamlined, but still feature-packed and it's the first software package we've seen that truly makes these big phones easier to use with one hand. To me, everything about One UI just makes sense. Performance is also fantastic thus far with the SD855 chip.

iOS is very polished as well and performs wonderfully in my experience, but it absolutely holds the hardware back in many ways due to its lack of features and/or user options.

Cool, AT&T just canceled my Galaxy Buds order because "we couldn't verify this order really came from you." .... completely idiotic.

Edit: They canceled because my billing address and ship address did not match. I guess it's too much to ask that they are shipped to my work address. Thanks for the fraud protection though, I guess. Anyhow, my local store has one in stock so I'm peeling out of the driveway as we speak!

Noooo.
You must have missed my post.

I have returned it as I want the Plus, so sent the normal size back and waiting for a refund before I pick a Plus up.
But I get paid tomorrow so kinda tempted to just go and buy one! :D

I am back on the XR in the interim though!
Lol I see

How long is the wait? What made you go bigger? Was S10 too small?

I used my max today for a bit and I don't miss it at all. Which shows how great the S10 plus is
