Eh it's just TouchWiz but skinnier and much better to navigate except I'm still so damned used to my XR I keep accidentally activating Samsung Pay. And it's supposed to help you better interface with other Samsung appliances, but I don't own any except for a TV I rarely use. YouTube has videos that can explain it better than I can. I'm about ready to Zzzz.

The navigation is what I would say is the best part, since it makes bigger phones easier to use.

Oh, I never been a fan of the TW launcher. I did check it out with the One UI but still not that impressed. Been using Nova for years. Also been playing around with the Microsoft launcher which imo is better than TW/One UI.

My S9+ was a preorder and is absolutely fabulous so here's to hoping for more pre-order luck for everyone who decides to do this.

I'll probably do the reservation tonight but I don't know if I will go through with it or not.

I think I will go middle of the road and go for the S10. White.

The problem I might run into is my husband will likely also do this. And last time when we tried to preorder the Note 9 together, Samsung refused to process his preorder that was placed after mine, because both of us were doing trade ins. And they don't accept two trade ins from the same household any more until the first phone is received and processed by them.

To clarify, what happened to us was that they sent him an email telling him his preorder was on hold and would not be processed until the phone I was trading in was received and processed by them. Well my phone was on backorder for weeks, too. He was looking at waiting over a month for a pre-order. Despite iphones being released about a month later, we had our XS-Maxes in hand while people were still waiting on their Note 9 pre-orders.

That got us both so mad along with the long wait for the long backordered model we wanted. I am the one who canceled my pre-order first. As soon as I did that, my husband's hold came off of his preorder but it still remained on backorder even after the opportunity to order the XS Max came up. He cancelled his preorder sometime around the time his XS Max arrived.

I guess I'll go muddle through and look for the fine print and see if they're still at that silly policy again.

Edited for clarity and to update: I can't readily find any prohibition this time on the number of pre-orders with trade-in per household. That doesn't mean it's not buried in there somewhere.

very interesting! and that indeed sucks if that's the case. I wonder if there's a way to order under 2 different email addresses and maybe that'll keep it from that issue? But if it's the same shipping address, maybe they still do that?! weird.

TouchWiz died a few years ago. Samsung User Experience is what replaced it. The earliest phone that could be upgraded to Samsung User Experience is the old S6 IF your carrier pushed the update. That was from 5.x Lollipop to 7.x Nougat.

There were a few articles online by "journalists" stating they were the same but the performance differences in phones before and after the update prove them to be false. The Galaxy S series improved in speed and function with the S7, and that was still before the upgrade, whereas the S8 shipped with Samsung User Experience. One UI is the next generation of overlay, if you will. And SUE and One UI is one of the reasons Google adopted Samsung style UI for Android Pie and Q. It isn't surprising that Korean Giant and Google are in bed together coming up with mutually beneficial software and expanding it into the Android sphere.

I wouldn't be surprised if both companies are developing Fuchsia together.

Heck everything was different except the shipping address and our last names. Hah, had I kept my maiden name maybe that would have worked but I doubt it. Well I suppose it doesn't make a difference. They were just refusing to process the preorders at the same time, not refusing entirely. Just one of us would have to be patient and wait to be second for a couple of weeks. Maybe we can have a contest to see who goes first. Unfortunately he's better at me in just about everything. Oh wait, I'm older! Oldest should go first! :D

Ah this stupid...I was not going to preorder, just pick it up for cheaper months from now. Well that is still likely. I'm just preordering to preorder, which is all kinds of weird, but that is Samsung for you. And of course I'd take the bait because that's me, for you.

My husband thought it was funny that they say "We know that you know what's coming." Their marketing people do have a sense of humor. Of course they leaked everything on purpose, I would imagine. They weren't exactly trying to hide these phones.

Are you actually going to place the order on the 20th? Or you just put in your "reservation" to be able to place the order on the 20th? I did the latter just in case I decide I want one after watching the key note or whatever it's called.

Also, don't hate me, but I quite like the Microsoft Launcher from time to time. Especially because I can use Cortana and Google. I watched a launcher video on YouTube the other day and was surprised there were some very fancy ones. I just want something simple. Preferably with a custom color background, or ideally a skin that comes in white tint.

Probably because of the bad sales the last couple of years. I only upgraded to the S9 because it went on sale and it was cheap enough. I wasn't going to get the S10... but those damned leaks.

Just placing the reservation to secure the deals in case I decide to place an order.

My problem is I am sure I want one. At this point enough has been leaked for me to know that much. I'm probably going to take a good look at the Note and the foldable down the line, too.

A lot of the field has opened up to me now that I am taking a break from Apple for the year. Before I spend one more cent on Apple, I need to know if OLED is their future, that they're going to change whatever they've done to the display tech that makes me and other people so badly ill.

If the rumors are true and they're saving their wide angle lens for the 2019 Max, and if I'm still "allergic" to the OLED they use for it, I can't have the one feature that would prompt me to upgrade from the Xr.

I have my doubts they'd change anything because they win accolades on their OLEDs and they do seem to use less power and not burn in. So why would they change?

They've known since the first X was introduced that there's a problem. They acknowledge that in their disclaimer. By continuing the same design into a second year with a disclaimer about a small number of customers suffering effects, they're indicating our issue is economically insignificant to them. There's no ill will in that. It's just the truth. And there's no hard feeling in me breaking away from their ecosystem. I've got my own truth to deal with.

I guess I really should not take it for granted that just because I'm fine on the Pixel and Samsung Galaxy OLED now, I'll be fine this year, too. Maybe they changed something to match what Apple does. Heh, maybe my husband should get first in line after all.

If Apple does change their OLED specs to something I can use again, great. I'd be willing to take a look. I'm a gadget nut. That's what I do. Fortunately right now my gadget nuttiness is limited to smart phones and to a lesser extent, small tablets.

I wonder if there will be a reservations system in the UK and if they will be offering any trade ins for the Xs max. Still not sure whether to go for the note 9 or the S10 plus though.

I’m sure carphone warehouse will do a trade in deal even if Samsung aren’t.

Why not wait for the Note 10? Can't you hold out until Summer?

You can use your maiden name. The postal service only cares where it's going. We had five guys living in an apartment when I was working out of town and we all had mail going there.
Still think the biggest issue is your address. Do you have a neighbor that you trust?

My payment details would all be in my married name. Ah it’s no big deal I guess if we have to wait in turns. It was a big deal back during the Note release because we had wanted to play with the phones while there was still a sliver of summer vacation left. But the huge backorder for the 512 GB blue model messed that up anyway.

Now I’m trying to figure out whether I’d like the S10 or S10+. What does that second selfie lens in the S10+ really do? If it’s something super cool would I miss it? My husband says he’s getting the biggest phone.

I wouldn’t use the second selfie lens and I would prefer one hole but at the same time I’d want the biggest screen available.

I would imagine it would be heavy, too. I think the prism white looks nicer in that particular photo. I'm sure they're both going to be attractive in person. Ceramic doesn't always pop in photos but usually impresses in person.
[doublepost=1550174178][/doublepost]I took a closer look at the leaked battery stats relative to screen size and compared them to the models I'm already familiar with and own. My Pixel 3XL appears to be comparable to the S10+ in display size and ppi but with the S10 battery capacity. Ouch to my poor Pixel 3XL. I do top off the battery a lot.

I think based on that I will consider the S10+. I really had not considered it at all until today. I was liking the high ppi on the S10 but that battery is not as appealing for the size of the display it's driving.

On the other hand, if you can hold out until then, then perhaps Apple may announce a new lineup of phones that may pique your interest if the Note 10 doesn't interest you.
This is what I’m doing

Wait til note 10 and review things when new iPhones are out

Undecided the route to go as I love my iPhone but think I’m wanting to try something new

I went to check out the reservation system and got to the page with the fine print about trade ins. It is once again one trade in per household at a time.
*****
Here is a quote from their Terms and Conditions:

"You may only have one outstanding Trade-in Device per household at any given time. If you try to purchase more New Samsung Devices under the Trade-in Program when you already have a Trade-in Device that needs to be shipped to Samsung, those additional purchases will be placed on hold until the first Trade-in Device for your first New Samsung Device purchase is received at which time the first-in-line additional purchase will be processed. After such additional purchase is processed and the corresponding Trade-in Device is received and processed by Samsung, the next-in-line additional purchase will be processed, continuing in such manner until all additional purchases have been processed and all corresponding Trade-in Devices have been received and processed."

****
Well that stinks! It was not like that when we bought our S8's a couple of years ago, but that year they were reported to have absolute chaos handling the volume of trade ins they got. It was a massive cluster cluck. So I guess this rule is the result.

Yeah well, I'm pretty patient and can wait if I have to. Maybe TMobile will again have a half price preorder like they did for the S9. If you have TMobile. Think I'm gonna skip this one. I like the colors but I always put a case on mine right away so it don't matter since it's on the back

Yeah that sort of fits. Also kind of goes with the “let’s add more lenses” war we are seeing, too. Phones have become kind of amusing.

Unfortunately we are all to blame, and that includes the so called "professional" reviewers. Every year we hear how the new release is just a spec bump of the previous version. We constantly demand something massively different from the year before, which is just not realistic. Especially now that the smartphone has matured. The foldable form factor is the next phase. Thanks to the OEMs who actually make an effort to venture into the unknown, rather than sit and wait to see what takes off, then jumps in the wagon.
